Need Help! Adding Links in Comments

   Hi All,
   
   When I first started I read a Hub or saw in the forum that it was frowned upon to add a self-promotional link to one of my hubs in another Hubbers comments section! 
   
   For example a comment like:
   I like your hub on belly fat. Now see my hub on beauty with the link included in the comments.
   
   Am I right that it is against HP rules or is it just plain tacky.
   I'm trying to school a newbie.
   
   Your help would be appreciated!

      Well it's a bit tacky and according to the TOS you mat be found to be overly promotional.
      
      Most people probably won't click because they see it as a way of you getting more traffic, not you being interested in the hubs... aka spam
      
      Remember you want people to find you hubs and read them because they really want to....well I do anyways

      Regardless of what HP thinks it will be entirely at the discretion of the Hubber.
      
      If I got a comment like that I'd delete it.
      
      If I found two of my hubs had comments like that or similar to that, I'd mark you as a spammer.
      
      If you did that a few times and you get marked as a spammer by a few Hubbers, all your comments on every hub will automatically be tagged as spam.

      It's not officially against the rules, but a majority of Hub authors will find it tacky (which is another way of saying those types of comments don't get approved).
      
      The example you gave is, to me, a perfect illustration of a comment that deserves to be flagged as spam and deleted.  It adds nothing to the discussion and screams "come to my Hub."

      It's not against the rules but it is considered tacky.  If you're a Hubber, your name provides a link to your profile and it's fine to say "I've also written a Hub on this subject".  If you're not logged in, you can comment as a guest and make your name a link to a Hub or other site.

   Thanks for the feedback Sa Toya and Darkside!  Since this was a newbie, I did not identify them as a spammer yet!
   
   I noticed that he did it to several hubbers; so I contacted him advising him why I deleted his comments.  Now I have an e-mail from him asking me to explain in further detail.  I'm going to refer him to this forum link. 
   
   So any other Hubbers want to share you views?

   In almost all cases, I delete comments with links on my hubs.  I would have to deem the link beneficial to the readers in addition to my hub for me to keep it in there.

   Thanks lakeerieartists and Dame Scribe for your insight. I'm glad to see that we are all doing the same thing.  
   
   Maybe I learned this lesson via the forum, however I still think it was mentioned on someone's hub as well.  If I find it I will be sure to post it here.

   I agree, I always delete a comment with a link to another hub.  The only thing that might prompt me to make an exception would be if it was a remarkable comment. 
   
   Even then, I would probably delete it.

   I had someone make a positive comment on one of my hubs without any reference to her hubs. She also emailed me to say that she had published a hub, which was on the same subject as other hubs to which I had linked in my hub. I was more than happy to add a link to her hub and I appreciated the elegant and tactful way in which she had drawn it to my attention.

      I have done the same thing in the past WriteAngled! Several hubs, I have included links to other Hubbers' work that are on the same subject matter.  Also, got a couple of new followers by contacting them and letting them know that I've linked to their hubs. Just good business sense for us to help one another this way.

   Marisa it may have been your hub that I read. I'm going to check now... If so I will send the "newbie" a link along with these comments. 
   
   It should be enough to let him know that if he continues putting links in comments most likely he will be identified as a spammer and that definitely will get attention from HP.
