After all the crap I have been through, I just found out that my older brother Dennis has brain cancer. He drove himself to Ann Arbor Michigan and had an MRI and CT Scan, and received the bad news, and called me as soon as he heard his results.
The good news is, his doctor says they can do surgery to remove the cancer and he should be fine. He is a veteran, (Air Force) and, they will be paying for the proceedure. But, since he can't drive after the proceedure, I have to drive him to his surgery. 60 miles to pick him up in Whitecloud, and then a 4 hour drive to Ann Arbor.
He started having seizures last year, and had been having tests done to find out why. The doctor says it is the cancer that is causing it. Which doesn't sound good at all! But, I am very skeptical, I keep telling him he should get another opinion.
My dad died of cancer at 74. My brother is only 51.
What awful news, i hope his treatment works and all will eventually be ok. I will be praying for him.
Thankyou. I wish he had the internet, so that he could see that people care. He lives in a small town in northern Michigan called Brohman. About 11 miles north of Whitecloud.
He also lives with my mom, and she is freaking out. I drove up there yesterday to visit them. I took along the Something, Something, Something, Darkside movie to cheer them up. It was a nice visit.
He is going to call me to let me know when he is going to have his surgery. Why can't this stuff ever happen in the summer when the roads are good!
I am epileptic so I understand the plight of feeling out of control of your life. My prayers are definitely with him as well. My family will include him in our family prayer. If you'd like you could email me and let me know his first and last name for reference.
I lived in Traverse City for a spell. I am not sure where you are from that place but just wanted to let you know I am thinking of Dennis.
Thoughts for you, your brother and all your family in this trying time
Love and peace
Tony
I cannot pray, for I'm not religious. However, I do send best wishes.
brimancandy:
My father had a brain tumor. I wish you all the very best, and the strength you will need.
My niece also had cancer.
Please, consider what I say to you here:
I and my family have had many experiences with this disease as well as others. The majority of my family members live in Alpena and Onaway (south of Mackinaw) - neither area has a specialty hospital of course.
We have dealt with U of M many times. Please consider that DMC is the better choice. Look into any options you may have there. I would choose DMC over U of M without any second thought.
I understand, having gone through it, that for small towners, Detroit can be a flat out scary place. My family was initially very uncomfortable about driving here. Detroit Medical Center is about half a mile from Ford Field and Comerica Park so if you've ever seen the Lions or Tigers, that is the same neighborhood basically. It's right off I-75, Mack exit.
But the hospital is absolutely outstanding.
I live about 20 minutes away from DMC. If this is an option for you, if there is anything I can do to help you brimancandy, please contact me.
A second opinion is critical regardless of which doctor or facility you choose.
I understand COMPLETELY how difficult is it for family who live so far from the hospital center during a crisis.
Peace
Jen King
Hello everyone, and thanks again for your thought on my brother Dennis. Unfortunately, he can not choose the hospital that he has his surgery done, because it is being paid for by the VA. So, he has to go where they tell him.
There are some outstanding hospitals in Grand Rapids, as well as a VA Home, so I do not understand why they do not send him someplace closer. But, you never know what they are up to.
I suspected that may be the case.
Just the same, and I know it's unlikely, if there is something I can do just let me know.
My father had his treatment in Saginaw. It makes no sense to be sending folks across the state for help when there are facilities that are closer to home.
Be strong and best wishes
JK
Oh Brimancandy, I hope things get better for your brother too!
I will pray for your brother Dennis. I wish you all the best.
Thoughts and prayers to you, your brother and all your family and friends in these tough times.
May God bless on your brother and on your family. Hope, your brother will recover soon.

I have only alluded to it in the past, but I have been struggling with a cancer diagnosis for a few years. I went through chemo and was considered to be in remission. After a few chest x-rays, PET scans, and all that good stuff my oncologist became concerned and ordered surgery and a biopsy doing...

Before, it was all kind of fuzzy. We knew that abortions took place in Planned Parenthood facilities and fought against it, but other activities were unclear. Now, we have clear, undeniable evidence of the evil - and I mean evil - practices taking place using our own tax dollars. It is not an...

Please keep my grandma in your prayers. We found out last night that the Dr suspected that she had colon cancer. I cried almost nonstop. I love her very much and she is the last grandparent that I have. Now, my mom just called and it has been confirmed. They are waiting to...
