Can I use published content on my hub

   Hi,
   
   I have some articles published elsewhere like Helium & AC.Can I use the same on HubPages.

      God this  is  difficult...i am  novice I would  say  if it's  your  own  stuff.......get  it  moving
      So yes! I say  Yes  than  again I am  new  here....so if  you  don't  try it you'll  never  truly know.....like  riding if you  fall  off get  back on.......you'll  never  know unless you take  the  risk.....we  learn  from are  mistakes

   Yes you can but you cannot then use the hub for linking to your own sites.  Also it wont rank well because of the duplicate content.  You are better off re-writing the articles

   Hey,I have a question about that.. I have a hub that got picked up as an article in a magazine and a huge portion of it is now pasted on their website too.  Is that going to mess up my hub's ranking or do I get some kind of priority since I had mine up a month or two before?
   
   In fact, if it does.. what's to stop anyone from stealing content and just decimating hub scores by making content suddenly become "duplicate?"

   No, it won't mess up your Hubscore - if you see a flag warning on your Hub, you just email Maddie that you had it up first, and she will take the flag away.

   Jenny is correct I had someone steal one of my hubs and I knew because the score plummeted and a duplicate content alert - Maddie fixed that  and I have been using copyscape.com to track down the copies - I then write to the owners of the article directories and get the copy removed and the user banned - good success rate so far! You do have to pay for copyscape (5c a search) because the hubpage.com domain has always exceeded its 10 free searches LOL

      Hi, Lissie! I tried going to copyscape to do a search on some of mine and when I typed in the url, it said that the 10 searces had been reached and I should purchase a premium membership. However, I have never used this site before today. Wierd! Oh well, I guess I'll have to do the old fashioned checks through search engines. lol. Looks like it may be a good thing to have but I can't even try it out to see
      
      I have several of my articles that have been posted to other sites with my permission, provided they leave the bio information in place. So far, I haven't found a stolen hub but I know that it can happen so I try to check occassionally!

         Bonnie, you might not have searched for Hubs before, but lots of other people have.
         
         The same thing happens if you blog at Wordpress.com or Blogger. A shared domain name with thousands of users makes it very unlikely that you are one of the first 10 searches!
         
         If you have your own blog on your own domain, you can always do 10 searches for free, because nobody else is searching pages on that domain.
         
         As Lissie said, you will need to pay 5c per search for pages on hubpages.com.
         
         If it's not worth 5c to you to save the time you currently spend Googling for stolen copies, then carry on doing what you are doing ...

   I had several of my articles stolen from article directories and uploaded to http://www.iknownow.net  without the resource box link to my website. I had Google make them remove those articles. Check if your article is stolen by that site.

         You're welcome, Bonnie!  It's a good way to find out if someone else is using bits of your articles and adding some words of their own.  That's what happened to me.  The other author used my opening few paragraphs and then finished it herself.

   You can also try http://www.plagiarismdetect.com/
   It is also free and you use text to search.However I sometimes find that Copyscape picks up what this site missed.Maybe it is not as efficient as Copyscape.

    I have a question, and this has been a question for me for several months, how would someone know that duplicate content is penalised by the search engines, does anyone know the exact algorythm of Google? And for example if somebody copy/pastes one of my articles which has actually happened several times, we can not avoid that, how do I know I am not also penalized as my article would also be duplicate in that case. And as far as I know Google uses the semantic technology, some basic things about semantics can be found here.
    
    I have a friend that runs a search engine, and asked him the exact same question,what he told me is that his search engine does not work this way, and he can`t figure out either how exactly google really functions because it changes all the time,  what his search engine does is increase a site`s popularity by the number of incoming links from high page rank sites and better results in the SERP`s according to right keywords, via a complex mathematical algorythm that matches words/phrases, based on several dictionaries.
    
    And as a fact I have seen duplicate content all over the web with high page ranks, great results in the search engines and so on, how would that be explained?
    
    I think someone shoud manage to reveal these secrets as this has affected lots of published that don`t even know what`s good to do and what`s bad.

    How would someone know? Google tells you.
    
    Under each search result in any Google search, if you look, a lot of them have "Cached - Similar pages - Note this" - if you click on "Similar pages" it shows you all the results it DIDN'T place on Page 1 because they were too similar to the one that did appear.
    
    It's all well and good if your page is the one Google chooses to display - but who knows how to guarantee that?
    
    Safer just to make everything unique, as far as I can see, then it's not an issue.

    There are public domain articles that you are allowed to use but you will not score much if you just copy them as they are. I use them as reasearch as I do any other reasearch as I do any other information I get hold of. I have reused some of my own articles but I have rewritten them.
