Downloading of Hubs

   While I have not published many hubs, the interface HubPages provides is easy to use, so I expect to be publishing many more hubs in the future.  I find that in many cases I prepare hubs on HubPages itself, rather than do it in another application.
   
   As such, I find that I do not have any backups of my hubs here at HubPages.  I'm wondering if there can be a feature in which I can download the contents of all my hubs with a single click?

      Wandererh, what I do is write my hubs on Google Docs, then copy and paste here.  That way, I have a backup online in case some glitch makes HP disappear, or my computer crashes.  Google Docs also allows you to download your pages to your computer as files.

      I was searching for this query "backup hubs" in hubpages forums section today and landed over to this thread today.
      
      If hubpages can create a feature for keeping a back up of all our hubs in one go, it would be really really appreciated because I think it is really difficult for us to just copy and paste our old hubs in word doc or just save them off line one by one, as it is a very tiring job.
      
      Please let me know what are your ideas on this??

         I always compose my work in an offline program called Darkroom (basically bare-bones Notepad...black background...green font) and after transferring through word for spelling and grammar issues...save a copy and transfer to Hubpages.
         
         I always assumed that the other writers composed their work in Word, Notepad or another program and transferred the draft into Hubpages as well....so inherently the work would automatically be backed up on your computer in whichever program you chose to write in.
         
         Perhaps a suggestion and a question intermingled into one reply in regards to your query.

         Since we own all our content and are responsible for it, I think it's much more our responsibility to backup our writing and not HubPages.

   Not all at once. But if you right click on some open space you can save an entire hub as a webpage to open offline in a browser. Easy enough then to extract your text & pictures if you want to.

   Yeah that is the easiest way, but  it`s always better to store your articles and photos on your hard drive and keep them safe once you publish them.

   Write the bulk of your hub offline and then upload it - quite often the text capsule will freeze and you're loose your work - also you should keep a copy of your own stuff on your own PC (and back that up too) - there is no law that says hubpages will be forever

   Yes, although we can save manually, a button for single step downloading would be a cool addition to the site features

   I find the easiest way to both write and save my hubs is to write them separately in a word processing program like MS Word and save them as a document (with the corresponding photos in the same folder). That way I have a backup, and the added benefit of spell check and grammar check, which, to be honest, a lot of hubbers REALLY need to start using.

    I'm going to start an Open Office document named Oct08.odt in its own folder for October hubpages and store all Hubpages created that month in that document.  Picttures will be saved in the same folder.  November will have another folder and a file named Nov08.odt.
    
    But editing of the hubs will be a little troublesome as I need to make changes on both sides.

    If you are using the Firefox browser, there's an add on called "Scrapbook" that will do what you want.
    
    After you have finished your hub, or edited it, just save it to Scrapbook and the page compete with text, formatting, images, etc will be stored on your computer for you to view anytime.
    You can rename the page every time you save it, so you keep a record of the hubs changes if you wish.

    Control U will open a window containing the HTML code of the whole page, which you can then copy.

    I too compose in MS Word.  Then its on my computer and backed up on a disc   Its very easy to copy & paste then into your capsules.  All of my photos are in my Picture file & ready to upload when I need them. HTH

    I agree it's our own responsibility to saving out own work, but I also think it's be so much easier to have a save as button to save to computer. Not too worried about it. It's not their responsibility to add this feature, but it would be time saving on my part. I still have to go through and save hubs that I didn't save. It'd be easier if I thought about it when writing it or after saving, but I always forget. :-/
    
    May be my goal tomorrow... Someone remind me to start working on saving my hubs again... ;-) Ha

    I wouldn't say it's a need, but a convenience. I'll say I just saved and attached near 30 hubs in a matter of just 30 minutes. that's really not bad timing.
    
    I'll also admit it takes much longer on my pc because it copies the pictures and all amazon/ebay pictures and whatnot. copying it from a mac just copies text, but that just means editing out the ebay/amazon text if you dont want it before saving. Just copy pics u want elsewhere. I'm more worried about the text. You can always get new pictures if need be.
