    Hi there,
I am fairly new and would like to know the answer to a question.  If have 5 or 6 comments or answers on a hub or post by different people when I come back on line after a few hours of being away, is it proper to reply to them all in one thank you/acknowledgement?   Or would that be like sending one wedding gift thank you to all your relatives at once with a joint e-mail.  In other words rude. Just wondering and wanted to be polite, but not redundant.    Thanks in advance to anyone with a thought on this.

LOL I love the wedding gift analogy.
It depends for me. Sometimes I will do a paragraph to answer a specific question or comment and then say thanks for visiting to the rest I try not to ignore anyone
Sometimes I do it all in one comment: sometimes I will do a number of comments: more a length thing really

    I agree with Lissie,
    . . .  and I have done both.

I think if you are getting tons of comments on one hub,  I think it almost seems like hubtivity spam to answer each individually.

Think about how you like to be recognized.-- While it is nice to have someone say why they liked your response, I don't mind if I'm thanked in a group answer, even if it says : "Thanks to everyone..."  and I don't feel slighted if I am NEVER thanked. Some people have lives off the internet, plus kids, plus parents, etc etc.

I am often to the point where I wait a bit-- then try to answer , often (not always) with names.
I don't expect a thank you. It is appreciated, but not mandatory.  I really don't think of it as being equivalent to a wedding gift in any way.

Good question. I want to know how others feel about this.

To me it is fine however anyone decides to reply to comments on their hubs as it is their subject.  Each hubber is responsible for moderating the comments on their own hubs.  However, lately I have been writing a long response to each hubber that is one comment, or commenting on each hubber when I feel like it.  I do not feel like it is hubtivity spam as it is my hub and I enjoy interacting with people who comment.  However, on another person's hub I would not expect them to comment back to me by name, but likewise I would hope someone would not expect me to reply a certain way to comments.

    Fair enough.
Don't think there is any official "ettiquitte".  (Someone once told me "Use your own discrepancy." and I do.)
Sweetiepie, Your new avatar look like you are hoisting something and saying "cheers!"

It is my cell phone smile.  I took a picture of the reflection of myself in the mirror.  I like your avatar and did you create it in photoshop?

It's from my iMac (built in camera) in the photobooth options-- the pencil sketch mode or something.,,,covers the wrinkles. I have to try Zsuszys wrinkle cream.

I like the pencil sketch mode and the oil painting one.  Zsuszy's natural creams look very nice.

I like to answer all my comments (but I'm not getting loads), It would be nice if there was a reply button to the comment though, especially if it sent a notification to the author of the comment (if possible)

OK I am going to take a chance and risk impropriety by answering you all at once.
After running my own "poll of polls", doing a scientific sampling of all your answers, this is what I came up with (errror percentage of 50 % either way).

"Who knows what the heck people prefer, so just please yourself!"

Personally, I like it when people comment on my hubs and answer my questions because it makes me feel less like I am shouting from the bottom of a well and no one is above to hear me.   When I comment, it is fun to have people acknowledge me but I don't hold it against them if they don't, in fact don't usually even remember who they are.
It is wonderful for a new person to get lots of answers on forum though, since that is how we learn.
So, I will thank you all as a group for answering me, and truly hope this method does not crush any one individual's feelings irreparabley.  (Did I mention I am co-dependent?)

Sound like a good plan smile

Just do not deny comments just because they disagree with your point - that is the thing nobody likes smile

True Misha, since I write some controversial hubs I get alot of feedback, and not necessarily agreeing with me but that's OK ! As long as someone doesn't cuss me out I'll put their comment up ( nobody has but just saying if they ever did..lol..)

This is a good question. I have had alot of comments, and although I love interacting with people, it would be hard to answer everyone. I usually pop in as I have time and make comments back, but not always, Sometimes I answer a specific comment, sometimes I make a broad comment and answer several people at once. I don't expect all hubbers to answer me back- it's nice if they do but I don't expect it. If I am asked, or ask a specific question in a comment I do try to answer or hope that I get answered back, but it does not affect me being a fan of someone who doesn't respond. I know we all have busy lives.I know some hubbers reply to all comments, which I give them big kudos for doing that- it's really interacting with their readers and that's great, but I don't personally do that.
And just for the record- we all do have email, so if another hubber or fan wants to personally speak to a hubber, they can email them.

Thanks guys....good thoughts.  I want to try and be a part of this community as much as I can be while still spending most of my time writing.   I have never had the time to devote to writing like I do now due to a work lay-off and a partner break-up so I want to find out all I can about it while I am free to do so.   Happy Sunday!
