Madden 13 Ultimate Team Strategy guide and tips with what's new, and how to play. MUT

Updated on August 28, 2013

Intro

This hub is going to talk about, first off exactly what Madden Ultimate team is for those of you who haven't tried this in Madden 12 or prior, or are experimenting with this game mode. I will also talk about strategies on how to win games, get coins, and overall build that team that you want. Please feel free to comment below, or if need be you can message me in game on Xbox 360.. My gamer tag is MKS JohnR space between MKS and johnR.

Also upon request I have created a Twitter account for Johnrr's Hubs which can be found here https://twitter.com/Johnrr631992

What is Ultimate Team

Okay, so if you have never experienced Ultimate team before then it is worth giving a shot. Also in my opinion this is by far the MOST fun game mode, and holds my attention more than anything else on the game. Also I feel that this allows you to make the team you truly want and not be forced to stick with you player, or the preset real NFL teams.

So with that being said, Ultimate Team is a game mode feature that is fairly recent on the Madden games. To play this game mode you must be online, and have access to internet at all times when trying to play Ultimate Team. Even if you are playing vs. the CPU you still need to have the internet connection because every game counts towards your rank, contracts, and so on.

To sum the game mode up altogether would be to say that your goal is to build a team from scratch, and achieve an ultimate team that is unbeatable. With that being said, while in Madden 12 it was fairly easy to make LOTS of coins, Madden 13 has made it a little more difficult, and on top of that has added MANY new features to make the great players harder to attain.

When you start ultimate team on Madden 13 you will be able to choose a captain. Don't spend to much time on this because to be honest, after probably 1 week that player will be replaced with someone better if you are really trying to build an ultimate team. So this is not an important pick, but I would still suggest going with a quarter back.

Now that you have picked your captain, you need players. The game wills start you with a bunch of bad players to start the game with, and you should also start with a couple packs of cards. The card packs is how you will obtain the most new players, and this is a good way to make money (I will talk about this later in the guide). So after you open all your packs, you should place your cards in the active roster, which will allow you to use these players immediately. In the beginning you can throw all your players on active duty, because you don't have enough to need to start filling the reserves section left, not to mention this will give Madden the best chance to set your line up, up with the best players.

Now that you have some players, you need to manage your line up. The best option here is to let Madden do this for you by hitting whichever corresponding button (Y on Xbox) will automatically fill positions. This will allow you to have the best players in the best spots, and save you a good amount of time.

Now you are essentially ready to play games. In the beginning you do not need to worry about contracts, or anything that will affect your team, you should be able to play at least 10 games before you have to start worrying about players or anything.

(If you don't know what contracts are... Basically when you have your cards, they are not good forever. They are only good for a certain number of games, which are contracts. As they run out you must use a contract card to add more games. Once again Madden 13 has Made this a LOT easier with contracts by making each card add the same number of contract games to any card level. Don't worry if in the beginning you start running out of players, when you get further on in my guide and start making REAL money you will never have to worry about contracts again.)

NEW FEATURES

So before I get to any strategies let me go over some of the new features that have been added to the game.

1- Ultimate Legends. If you remember from Madden 12 the legends were very crucial to have a great team. In Madden 13 EA Sports has added Ultimate legends. These are basically that legend player, but MUCH better. Also this makes that player very hard to attain. I have yet to attain an Ultimate legend, but I only need the key Steve Young card to have my Steve Young Ultimate Legend. Either way, Ultimate Legends are going to be a crucial part in the 99 rank teams, and for people who are trying to have the greatest team possible.

2- 1000 RESERVE.. This may be the best feature they added to Ultimate Team. If you remember from Madden 12, once you filled up your roster you pretty much had to sell players, send them to auction, add them to collection, or drop them. Now you can send up to 1000 players to your reserve bank. I think this is by FAR the best feature, and I have been taking full advantage of this. ( PS. I think one fix NEEDED to be done, is the ability to send players directly from the reserve to collection bank.)

3- Ability to buy legends packs with coins. In madden 12, you had to use microsoft points in order to buy ANY Legends packs. Well in Madden 13 they have fixed this, and for a price a little above 30,000 coins you can purchase a legends pack.

4-Solo Challenges. This is a cool feature they added.Okay, so I didn't see at first that there were more solo challenge options, BUT now I do, and this just reassures the fact that I think that this is a great game mode. Thank you for pointing that out to me.

Well, this is all I can think of off the top of my head, If when I get back on Madden in a couple of days I see new features that I forgot, I will add them to this list.

Making Money

So there are many ways to make money on Ultimate team, and there are some that are much more efficient than others. I will talk about these methods first.

The BEST way to make money on Madden ultimate team is SIMPLE. You do need a little start up cash but you are GUARANTEED money after. You need 9000 coins. By getting this you will now buy a gold pack of cards. With that you will get I believe 10 cards or a couple more. First off sell the contract card. You will get about 2,000 coins for the gold contract card. Next go through and list all the players on auction. You will get NO LESS than 2000-2500 per player, and once in a while you will get 5000+ for good players. Once the NFL starts playing you will also make MUCH more money as you can get Fantasy weekly players, as these tend to sell for more $$$. Usually on a 9000 gold card pack you will make a MINIMUM of about 15,000, and usually closer to 18,000 if not a little more. So you will literally double your money. Then you will continue to do this each day, and continue getting more players. Also said before you will once in a while get star players who can yield as much as 20,000 coins themselves. Last year there were fantasy Tom Brady cards that were selling for over 100,000 coins because he was needed for a good collection. So this is a very easy sufficient way to make money. The only thing I do suggest is waiting to buy the gold card pack because this offers the best yield, and I don't know if you will make any money off buy cheaper card packs.

2- Playing solo challenges. As said above in the new section of the guide, Solo challenges are a great way to earn a fast card, and to make some good quick money. This is a great way for you to make your first 9,000 coins in order to be able to buy that first gold pack to start making money.

3- Playing games. This is not the best way to make money, but it is a source of income. To be honest I only suggest using this as income in the very beginning, or later in your career when you don't care for money and your going for wins. This is because playing games wastes your contracts, and to be honest, you lose money as far as the price of contracts, and how many players out there, you lose a little bit of money even if you win every game. So I don't suggest playing games until you are going for the wins, or don't need the money, OR have plenty of contracts on each player. Otherwise you are just wasting money. (Now I know your saying the point of the game is to play football, but if you strategize this right you will by FAR make the best team in the long run, and with the least effort)

4- Completing collections. This was a GREAT way to make really good money in the Madden 12 game, but they REALLY cut back the amount of money that is being given out upon completing a collection. Whether this will change as they add more collections I am not sure, but as of now this is not a great source of income as it used to be.

Choosing players

After you really start making money, and getting the hang of ultimate team, the next step is building your team. When you are trying to perfect your team, you will no longer be buying card packs to get your players, but looking on the auction block for the best players that you need. It is a waste to buy card packs to hope to get a certain great player, when you can save time and money by just buying the player on the auction block.

By choosing your players this allows you to view the best players out there as well. Your ultimate goal is to have at least 1 ultimate legend, along with a few legendary players, and the rest above 95. This will allow you to have a GREAT team.

summary/conclusion

Overall this game mode takes a lot of time and patience, but is BY FAR the most fun game mode in Madden 13. Also this is the most popular game mode, and really gives the player the full options to make their team exactly what they would like. I suggest that anyone give this a shot, and see if you like it, and try your best.

Also I know it costs money off the bat, but I really suggest buying 1 legendary pack off the start. This really sets you ahead of the pack, and also jumps you ahead about 1 week ahead of effort. This will speed the game up, and allow you to truly get as far ahead as you possibly can, and make some good money. I did this and got Steve Young as my legendary Quarterback, and has allowed me to get much further ahead, and win many more games than I would have with my starting QB.
