Updated on February 18, 2011

LIFE Magazines - Pieces of American History

Like pieces of history, old Vintage LIFE magazines were American's news source for the nation and world. This original August 11, 1958 issue of LIFE magazine shows what was on America's "radar screens" that week - the top news stories, top world events, and the important social issues of the time. The articles, editorials, and vivid photo essays in LIFE magazines gave Americans the stories and the pictures that helped shape their view of the world around them.

Issues of LIFE magazines presented America's state of affairs, and American's interests in detailed and colorful stories and photo essays that people looked forward to each week. Doing research on the Internet just doesn't have the same satisfaction as holding a real piece of America's past in your hands.
