What percentage of hubbers are smokers?

The percentage seems quite high, though I am NOT a smoker. Writers are  historically  known to be smokers, e.g. Mark Twain whom I believe was a heavy smoker.

I know some of my favourite authors were smokers, but didn't realise the percentage was so high. I am a smoker myself but in the process of weaning off the weed.

Yes the percentage seems quite high. I smoked heavily for years. Very hard habit to break.

I'm not a smoker & never have been (find the smell offensive and it gets everywhere).  If anything, I feel sad at how much second-hand smoke I got in my early 20's (shortly before it was realized how bad second-hand smoke really was for people). Even then I didn't like it but if you wanted to go out, you didn't have a choice -  there weren't any smokefree bars or clubs then!

Not I - ate a cigarette when I was five and can still taste it. Yucko!

My parents smoked 5 packs a day each and I had pneumonia three times ages 6 - 17.

I don't know about a percentage, but I have never been a smoker- I'm so glad something in me said "this is not good" when  I was young, and I never started.

Have never been a smoker but my parents were heavy smokers.  When my mom died, I was so habituated to second hand smoke, I actually craved a cigarette after moving out of our house and into a non-smoking environment.

Get over yourselves with that second hand smoke myth. It's been debunked. Blues great Pinetop Perkins just died at the age of 97 and smoked til then. Stop!!

Not a smoker. Already had open heart surgery, so that kills that option forever. Never been a smoker. Actually never smoked. Did work in the Pharma industry for a while and once heard a presentation on the science of why smoking is bad for you. Pretty amazing stuff. From what I learned, smoking, explodes your blood platelets. That explosion causes the fragments to stick to the wall of the blood vessels. The more often you smoke the more often this happens until one day that blood vessel closes from all of the remnants of the exploded platelets. The scientist who gave the presentation related it to pouring mayonnaise down a drain. Initially it will go down, but over time if you keep doing it, the drain clogs and can't flow.

I am a smoker, but it's funny that I came across this question because today is day one of my second attempt at quitting. As a writer, when I am sitting in front of my computer I tend to light up A LOT! My main reason for quitting is the money though, when I relaized how much was going into the habit I knew I had to do somethng about it.

i like a good cigar out in my shop,.... cant bring it in the house though, cant stand the smell later,... i might do that twice a week,... its cheaper than prozac and keeps me from killing people that annoy me to tears.

Maybe it goes with the occupation - sitting at a keyboard trying to concentrate, taking breaks to review what you are doing. Smoking can fill in some of those gaps. Not for me though.

I have given up the fags for 2 Months, 4 Weeks, 8 hours and 35 minutes. I have saved £275.17 by not smoking 1,048 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Days, 15 hours and 20 minutes of my life. Going all the way this time.

I was once an awful chain smoker. Two and a half packs a day. I quit 20 some years ago. I didn't want to I loved it. But I decided it was the right thing to do. I never went back. Now I hate it.

I am and it's the biggest mistake I ever made.  I've tried quitting so many times, but I get this feeling that I've lost something so important to me, I start having anxiety attacks then I become SO mad because I can't control the feelings. Then I get even more angry when I realize its all because of a stupid addiction.

I don't like smokers and I surely don't smoke. It's something that harms the person who smokes and also others near them.

I'm a smoker too. Smoking while writing sometimes help me to get inspiration and stay focus. In addition, a cup of hot coffee will make it perfect :-))

I just started smoking the e-cigs a few weeks back. They call it "vaping". BTW - anyone who's thinking about trying them - they are really doing the trick for me so far.  smile

I don't smoke and never will.  My whole family smokes and I've seen what it can do to your health and looks.  I also can see how highly addictive it can be.

I smoke every once in a while. It makes me feel better after a stressful time. However I keep finding out more cancers and issues smoking does to your body. Thus I keep to one cigar every month. Sometimes less.

I was a smoker for near 15 years..  I then quit for near 5 years and then started again.. doh!.. what a stupid thing to do.

I got to the point where I didn't even think of myself as a smoker anymore, and even thought it was disgusting (the smell etc). Then on holiday, after beers, a "friend" passes me one and I take it.. I get the taste and I have a few more that evening..

By the end of the holiday I was craving them again.. grrrr

Does it have any significant factor? I do not smoke but after thinking about it, now i realized that a lot of writers will tend to smoke cigarette while searching for their muse. These could probably be a negative association.

to answer the question i would say generally most writers do smoke, but hubbers i think it would be pretty less. ( the percentage). Knowing the situation would be in front of the computer indoor and all.

I smoke, but did not start until a few years ago.  Have no clue why.

I smoke about 1/2 a day.  I tried quiting several times but just cannot seem to kick it.

I guess I enjoy it to much and it breaks up the day.

    40 percent .

Hubbers are almost equal in ratio men:60 and women:40

80 percent of men smoke, so 80 percent of 60 percent is around 40.
