What makes people believe in superstitions more relevant to medieval times which are no longer

relevant to the 21st century?  What makes people hold on to such archaic superstitious remnants in terms of beliefs?

Repetition, indoctrination and fear. And then there is that book that explains why you should obey an invisible deity that allegedly told one of his 'faithful' to tie up his own son and sacrifice his life in order to prove he would obey superstitions.
Rituals and superstitions are done on autopilot. No one actively thinks that killing witches and other such nonsense is a good thing, right?
