Please read this interesting but sad article by Linda about her friend. Dementia is something many of us have or will be affected by either directly or indirectly.

So sad. My sister in law has dementia. She still remembers us but her memory is like that of a goldfish - 3 seconds. At 81, she is still very healthy. It's just a pity her mind isn't doing as well. So sorry to hear about Bill. I have tried coconut oil with my sister in law. She also has hypoparathyroidism which messes with the calcium levels in her blood creating confusion.

My sister in law has now come to live with us as the doctor said she was no longer able to live alone. I believe the lockdowns contributed greatly to her sudden steep decline. She believes she still lives in her own house and comes down daily to visit us, even though she knows she is staying overnight. She was very bad before she came to live with us and is greatly improved now, with company, regular habits and good food, though she will never recover her former faculties. Unlike Bill in Linda's story, my sister in law was never on the top step but she was always a hard worker.

      Thanks for posting this, John.

Linda, your story is heartbreaking, but beautifully written. I lost one of my favorite aunts to dementia. Watching her decline was devastating. It puts reality in an entirely different perspective.

Peace and love to you, Sis!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's loss. Losing someone to dementia can be a difficult and heartbreaking experience. Please pass on my condolences to your friend's families and let them know that I'm here to answer any questions they may have.

It's important to recognize the signs of dementia early on, as it can help with early diagnosis and treatment. Some common signs of dementia include memory loss, difficulty with language or communication, changes in mood or behavior, and confusion or disorientation. If your friend or someone they know is experiencing these symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

There are a variety of tests that can help diagnose dementia, including cognitive tests, brain imaging, and blood tests. It's best to speak with a healthcare professional about which test is most appropriate for a particular individual.

In terms of Alzheimer's disease, which is the most common form of dementia, there is a test called the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) that can help evaluate cognitive function and identify early signs of the disease. However, it's important to note that this test is not a definitive diagnosis and should be used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools.

Overall, it's important to be aware of the signs of dementia and to seek medical attention if you or someone you know is experiencing them. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a significant difference in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

This is such a sad story. I am very sorry for your friend and for you, Linda. I wish researchers could find a way to halt and even reverse dementia.

    Linda...
My heart goes out to you & his family.
It's so hard watching someone gradually fade away.
The sad part is...the oersin is usually someone who has been so intelligent beforehand.
I remember my stepfather losing keys & no one really thought much about it.
It happens...we get busy.  But then more & more things started to go missing.
And driving...that was a tough one.
Hang in there.  Remember the good times.
This isn't an easy road to go down.

A heart-wrenching story but beautifully told. Sorry for your loss, Linda. This  kind of loss is one of the most difficult because the one you lost is still living, and living in your thoughts. Wishing you divine strength, courage, patience and all that it takes to carry on.

Am really sorry that you’ve lost a friend. I know of family members who have had Alzheimer’s. They didn’t recognize me at certain points and I used to be afraid being with them. Now that I’m older, the fear shifted to the possibility that I might have it. It is sad and troubling when this disease comes. I feel what you’re going through now.
