   Rather unoriginally (and I guess some might say riskily - but the way *I* take personal responsibility for my web behavior is by being me 24/7 - no aliases).  So, heh heh, I guess I can ironically shirk accountability for name choice by passing the buck and saying that my parents have de facto responsibility for said hubber I.D.!

   It was fairly easy for me. I always say that besides my family, I have three true passions in life: books, running, and pizza. I'm an English professor and assumed I would spend most of my time writing about education. While Dostoyevsky is my absolute obsession when it comes to literature, iheartkafka (as in Franz Kafka) just had a better ring.

   My name sprouted from an idea that names are great enhancers of fate.  I chose my name because "masmasika"  which is a word from my ethnic dialect that means "boundless" or never ending.  My elders often used the word in relation to goods that keep yielding fruits.  I love the name because it makes me feel stronger.

   Oddly enough, Yahoo chose it for me. Really.
   
   Roughly a million years ago, I decided it was a good idea to have an email account that wasn't connected to my ISP. The choices at that time were pretty much Yahoo or Hotmail, so I went to Yahoo. Tried to use my name, but of course, 'that user name is unavailable.' Yahoo helpfully suggested another one, and since I wasn't too worried about what the name was, I said 'OK.'
   
   Since I'm efficient (or lazy, depending on your point of view), it didn't make sense to have dozens of different user names on every site in the world, so about half the time, I'm angie497. After I started writing regularly online, I mostly have used TheBeerLady (which is my alter ego LOL), but I wasn't going to go back and set up new accounts just to make the switch....

   For me, it just makes sense. I am Janie and I write, thus Janiewrites. I use it everywhere: my email address (janiewrites1@gmail.com) my website domain: (janiewrites.com). I will admit that I stole the idea from a former supervisor who was using his first name with 'writes.' At the time, his ISP address was @home.com, so the name was Rodowrites@home -- catchy and I liked it. (and he is OK with me using his idea.)

   I combined the names of two great writers, Umberto Eco and Patrick O'Brian.  I was also thinking about Bernardo O'Higgins - the juxtaposition of name origin made me laugh.  So I went with Umberto O'Brian, it felt original.

   I use my real name. The reason is because I want to present myself as I am, even in writing and online social networking. Famous writers also use their real name and I believe that using real name build confidence and credibility.

    Mine is my real name. As I see most on this site use code names. I used to hate the way my full name sounded in English. Now I kind of find it special. From what I gather you must be one Mighty mom with many obligations. I like your photo too.

    As for many here - also quite simply. I work under pseudonym Cristian Liberum and I simply took one part of my pseudonym. Liberum means "freedom" and blogging is all about that. Feeling free to express yourself.

    Like most people here, I use my real name. I don't feel comfortable using my surname online except on sites like facebook where I know the people in real life, so I decided to just stick with my first name. Rebecca is a pretty common name though, so I put some numbers after it - 2904, or the 29th April - which is my birthday.

    I used my instant messenger name.  Came up with the name because I played hockey for most of my life, the number I had on my jersey was 8, and I couldn't use hockey8man or hockey8.  hockey8mn was one of the automated choices and I picked it because it was the shortest.

    My husband actually gave me the nickname Mama llama when our oldest daughter was a toddler...he is always rhyming and would say to her "your momma is a llama." She is now ten and I am still dubbed Llama Mama

    i used my own name as it has always been a dream of mine to have people such as yourselves read what i write; also, it happens to be my most favourite quality. Because i attain absolute happiness when i hear the names of rowling, dickens or austen and to dream of my name stamped alongside it gives me great satisfaction.

    "Fat Freddy's Cat" is a character in my favorite comic book series ("The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers") and I've been using the name as a "handle" on various internet forums and the like for years.

    When my daughter was an infant, she would always slap at my face when I leaned in to give her a kiss. So one of her nicknames was "Slappy". I tossed it onto my last name and use it as my tribute to her.

    I had a very long email address and decided to change it and make it easy for people to remember.  My name is "Catherine" and many of my friends call me Cat  so "Cat" worked, and I thought "Page" would be a good addition for indication of a web page as well as page of a book for my writings.. CatsPage is also my twitter and facebook page name.
