Poetry is defined as a literary form; what does that mean?

One definition of a poem is… a concise, emotive expression dominated by an economy of language, the musical value of its sound, rhythm and meter, innovation in word choices, and a subtext that goes beyond the literal and prompts an emotional response. How do you define a poem or poetry?

This is the way that I see it: Music is spoken from the soul; poetry is spoken from the heart. smile

I define poetry as a flow of thoughts, emotions, feelings, and perceptions with a choice of words that do not necessarily rhyme acoustically, but rhyme in essence.

The pouring of emotions and feelings and thoughts onto canvas and creating a work of art with words but making that art come alive by stirring emotions and feelings in the reader, by touching their heart and souls

A poem is the language your soul, spirit, and emotions speak.  A poem says what the tongue doesn't think to say.
