I'm currently reading Ken Follet's novels. Right now I'm on "Code to Zero, next will be "The Third Twin" So far I've read"
Whiteout
Hornet Flight
Jackdaws
The Hammer of Eden
A Place Call Freedom
A Dangerous Fortune
The Pillars of the Earth
The Man from St Petersburg
The Key to Rebecca
The Eye of the Needle
After the Third Twin I will have 8 more of his books to go.. then I'll go in a withdrawal mode :-(
I am read several books too!
I'm reading Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz.
All three books are amazing!
Back to the classics to remind myself of some things:
Stranger in a Strange Land
Magister Ludi
Children of Dune
Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography
and for fluff, Club Dead, to keep things light
Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show on Earth.
Ireffutable to the open mind.
I'm reading The Universe in a Nutshell by Steven Hawking, although I just finished Ender in Exile by Orson Scott Card, the latest book in the Ender's Game series.
Twilight
Trying to see why my daughter is so crazy about the series!
Just finished 'Travels with Charlie' by John Steinbeck. It is about a road trip across the USA in the early 1960s. Very interesting to read it in 2009.
I am nearing the end of a very emotional book at the moment which is written by the husband of a very brave woman, who contracted breast cancer at the age of 28yrs, while also pregnant with her third child. She bravely refused any potentially life-saving chemotheraphy, until her baby was old
enough to be delivered prematurely at just 7 months . She named her baby son Jett, tragically she passed away just 15 months after his birth at the age of 29 years. She also had two other boys.
The name of the book is "Brave Hearts", very apt I thought. The author is her husband Kevin Walters and his wife w as Kim Walters. This book is about Kevin Walters and his life with the Brisbane Broncos. However, it is much more than just a book about a man and his love for his sport, football. It is about the love between Kin and Kevin and of her courageous battle with her breast cancer. It is a story of the good and sad times that this family had to endure and the love and courage that this family had to hold them together during this very difficult period. Even though it is sad, it is a good book to read because it is an inspiring book for anyone who is battling breast cancer, or any lifthreatening illness or disease. I know that this would help these people who need something to hold onto, I recommend this book for anyone who is in a similar position, most definitely BB
"Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Finished it last week, possibly one of the best books I have ever read (and I've read A LOT). If you want to know more, I do a book review Hub. Just go to my Fine Printings Hub and this review is the second one down. It's so good, totally recommend it!!
It doesn't qualify as a book, but I am reading The New Yorker. I maintained a subscription for twenty years, but unemployment forced me to cut back, and The New Yorker went by the way side. Of all the unnecessary thing I cut out of my life, I miss The New Yorker the most. On the book front I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'm not going to see the move until I finish the book. I find, in most cases, the book is always better than the movie.
Now i am reading The Magical Christmas Cat by Lora Leigh, Erin McCarthy, Nalini Singh, and Linda Westead Jones. A book that is a collection of short stories by those authors I posted It's pretty good so far
Now that I'm on winter break from college, I have tons of time to read and I'm embracing the crap out of it XD
Just started Dying to Please by Linda Howard. Unremarkable so far, but it's about stalking so it hits close to home.
About to start Star Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by Michael Reaver. What can I say, I'm a huge nerd XD
I'm in the middle of Different Seasons by Stephen King, the collection of novellas that includes the basis for the movies The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me. Just finished Apt Pupil in there--creepy and morbidly fascinating. King's my favorite author
I have to read Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson for my honors course in college. It's incredibly beautifully written and I'm in the middle of it; just got distracted by my other books XD
I'm also in the middle of Dreamcatcher by Stephen King and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover, but it's been such a long time since I've gotten to go back to them that I guess they barely count
PHEW! thank God you are on winter break and have time to just relax and read
Sounds like some interesting books. yea I wasn't too pleased by Linda Howard...tried reading a book from her years ago and yea...stopped reading it
and hey I use to read the Star Wars books too. LOVED THEM then sadly I fell out of reading them don't ask I have no idea why but just stopped reading them.
Eh didn't like Dreamcatcher..love stephen king but don't like reading his stuff...weird huh?
Haha, sometimes his stuff tends to drag on, but I love getting wrapped up in his worlds XD
the new dean koontz book breathless but i'm not reading it i downloaded it on itunes so i'm listening
his worlds are definitely CREEPY! but hey gotta love it. I love how he uses his own fears and nightmares as his plots for stories. I followed him in his footsteps in a sense and have used dream ideas for my own writing.
Hell yeah. When he writes, he WRITES. He doesn't mess around XD
so true so true. I think the movies based on his books sometimes does his books justice and other times it's like what? Like Dreamcatcher...yea the movie was just plain weird.
I haven't seen that movie yet, but yeah, they're all hit-and-miss. Like The Tommyknockers...oh my god...they totally ruined the story
I couldn't stop laughing during that movie. I do like Misery though
haha just hearing the title makes me laugh uncontrollably
lol you should watch the movie sometime...won't be laughing after that
Life is very busy but when i have time i read "YOU CAN WIN" written by SHIV KHERA......
Chris Harman's A People's History of the World. Fascinating stuff. Goes from the Stone Age right through to the New Millenium.
SHACKLES - Domestic Abuse A Modern Day Taboo by Malaika Cohen.
True story about a woman who walked free from 34 years of Domestic Violence.
La Neige En Deuil by Henri Troyat, for my A Level French course. I'm finding it quite good actually. Apart from attempting to understand all the specialist climbing lingo in French, it's good! haha
Ps. I love you... The book, I mean. xp
...for the second time. The film didn't live up to the book at all; I adore the book, it makes me cry at the end!
I am reading "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Loving it so far! I plan to write a review on HubPages when I am finished.
Just finished Under the Dome by Stephen King and The Neighbor by Lisa Garndner Both were pretty good.
Just started Paula Deen It ain't all about the cooking. I'll let you know but enjoying it so far.
I'm reading John Irving's Until I Find You - which is awesome - reading slowly because I don't want it to end!
My personal favorite is "The Time Traveler's Wife". I really like the story and how it was written.
God Bless You Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut, and the Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith...
One is much more humorous than the other, but they are both thoroughly interesting.
Found a nice old copy of The New Journalism by Tom Wolfe just last week and dipped into the first couple of chapters
Also rereading The politics of truth by Michel Foucault,
Natures God by Robert Anton Wilson, still on my desk half read.
I am jealous!
MC license is on my to do list for the coming year
Good luck
I'm reading "Nefertiti" by Michelle Moran. I just finished her book "The Heretic Queen" so I've read them out of order, but her stories just grab you and pull you in. I highly recommend these books!
Our book club is reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for our January selection by Stieg Larsson and is a National Bestseller. It is written by a Swedish author and has been translated into English. It is a murder mystery and a page turner. The story takes place in Stockholm and a place called Hedeby Island. Being I am from the Deep South, it is hard to imagine the brutally cold weather that the author describes.
