Just finished 'Travels with Charlie' by John Steinbeck.  It is about a road trip across the USA in the early 1960s.  Very interesting to read it in 2009.

I am nearing the end of a very emotional book at the moment which is written by the husband of a very brave woman, who contracted breast cancer at the age of 28yrs, while also pregnant with her third child. She bravely refused any potentially life-saving chemotheraphy, until her baby was old
enough to be delivered prematurely at just 7 months . She named her baby son Jett, tragically she passed  away just 15 months after his birth at the age of 29 years. She also had two other boys.
The name of the book is "Brave Hearts", very apt I thought. The author is her husband Kevin Walters and his wife w as Kim Walters. This book is about Kevin Walters and his life with the Brisbane Broncos. However, it is much more than just a book about a man and his love for his sport, football. It is about the love between Kin and Kevin and of her courageous battle with her breast cancer. It is a story of the good and sad times that this family had to endure and the love and courage that this family had to hold them together during this very difficult period. Even though it is sad, it is a good book to read because it is an inspiring book for anyone who is battling breast cancer, or any lifthreatening illness or disease. I know that this would help these people who need something to hold onto, I recommend this book for anyone who is in a similar position, most definitely  BB

"Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Finished it last week, possibly one of the best books I have ever read (and I've read A LOT). If you want to know more, I do a book review Hub. Just go to my Fine Printings Hub and this review is the second one down. It's so good, totally recommend it!!

It doesn't qualify as a book,  but I am reading The New Yorker.  I maintained a subscription for twenty years, but unemployment forced me to cut back, and The New Yorker went by the way side.  Of all the unnecessary thing I cut out of my life, I miss The New Yorker the most.  On the book front I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'm not going to see the move until I finish the book. I find, in most cases, the book is always better than the movie.

Now that I'm on winter break from college, I have tons of time to read and I'm embracing the crap out of it XD

Just started Dying to Please by Linda Howard.  Unremarkable so far, but it's about stalking so it hits close to home.

About to start Star Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by Michael Reaver.  What can I say, I'm a huge nerd XD

I'm in the middle of Different Seasons by Stephen King, the collection of novellas that includes the basis for the movies The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me.  Just finished Apt Pupil in there--creepy and morbidly fascinating.  King's my favorite author big_smile

I have to read Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson for my honors course in college.  It's incredibly beautifully written and I'm in the middle of it; just got distracted by my other books XD

I'm also in the middle of Dreamcatcher by Stephen King and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover, but it's been such a long time since I've gotten to go back to them that I guess they barely count tongue

Sounds like some interesting books. yea I wasn't too pleased by Linda Howard...tried reading a book from her years ago and yea...stopped reading it

and hey I use to read the Star Wars books too. LOVED THEM then sadly I fell out of reading them don't ask I have no idea why but just stopped reading them.

Eh didn't like Dreamcatcher..love stephen king but don't like reading his stuff...weird huh? lol

his worlds are definitely CREEPY! but hey gotta love it. I love how he uses his own fears and nightmares as his plots for stories. I followed him in his footsteps in a sense and have used dream ideas for my own writing.

so true so true. I think the movies based on his books sometimes does his books justice and other times it's like what? Like Dreamcatcher...yea the movie was just plain weird.

One is much more humorous than the other, but they are both thoroughly interesting.

Our book club is reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for our January selection by Stieg Larsson and is a National Bestseller.  It is written by a Swedish author and has been translated into English.  It is a murder mystery and a page turner. The story takes place in Stockholm and a place called Hedeby Island.  Being I am from the Deep South, it is hard to imagine the brutally cold weather that the author describes.
