John, your wonderful poem reminds me of a famous quote by John Steinbeck.

“All war is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal.”

So war is due to our failure to think objectively and being consumed by greed, fear, apathy, and revenge. These are the traits that have again and again doomed humankind for centuries. Peace remains a pipe dream simply because the real warmongers have no control over their actions. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking poem.

      Hello John!
Insightful and thoughtful poem. I do agree with your views, that everyone wants peace, yet mankind has time and again been pushed to wars. War is destructive and nothing is gained from it, but still they do happen.
Appreciate your well crafted and touching poem on this serious issue.
      Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Raviji for sharing this in the forum.

Ravi, thank you for sharing this and also for your kind words. I love that quote by Steinbeck...it is so true and so relevant to my poem.

All life seeks Peace. It is our innate nature as we come from Spirit. War itself is a search for Peace, capital letters. Whether it's on the battlefield of Kurukshetra or the fields and capitals of Europe. War happens because of fear and insecurity. We are protecting our greed.

From a higher standpoint, it is also a tool used by the Divine, as we do not listen to the Saviours/Boddhisatva's sent to teach us, that the way to Peace is to look within, not external. We crucify them, because the pull of the world is very strong. God/Love Itself has designed it that way!

Our role is to master this illusion, through seeking/struggle, to rise above it by following the principles expounded by Saviours, in order to find our way Home. History shows that few follow, hence the second way. The first is compassion through Godmen and women, and the second is the way of justice or transformation, via pestilences, war, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving, guys. All is as it should be, as it speeds up awakening! Glory be!!

Thank you Manatita. Good to hear from you as well. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but we should give thanks every day.

      Enjoy the poem

Although no other time in human history,  there has been less wars per capita of the population. Even the war in Syria was voted down 90% by the US public. It is the collective consciousness of 80% of the people who changes things for the postive. For wars solves nothing. and the greedy changes  very little towards the positive.

Brother, I hear this all the time! So I have not written to some dear friends. If you think about it, and you have, I see. Then Gratitude is the very life-breath of God!

I have written a piece, not about America, but in praise to my wife and children. Yet America is within God and war shows that we are all interconnected... rely on each other in so many ways!

Spiritual seeds planted are never wasted and like flowers that fade in winter, they will manifest in Spring. Lincoln, Dickinson. Payne, Washington, Jefferson, Emerson and more, all contributed to the American consciousness.

Yes, there have been thorns but the Yogic way is to see beauty. After all, Love is in charge of its own creation. Love you my brother. Do forgive my rant. Peace.

I did mean to commend your piece. So exquisitely done! I can see very clearly your seeking or quest for meaning. Ultimately, all beings seek the Light.

Yes, manatita, we all need to continually seek the light, the truth, and have faith in God and each other. I know wars have always happened and probably always will but we should always try to find a better way. Thank you brother.

Loved your poetry, John. It does look like peace is unattainable but I do believe majority of the people all over the world crave for peace. It is just a few top level powers that love to war and cause unrest in the world. Let's all pray together for world peace, our nation's peace and our family's peace. Thank you for the insightful share.

Thanks, Ravi, for sharing John's post.

Rosina, I agree that total peace is probably unattainable but it is something we should continue to seek and pray for. By doing that we can make the world the best it can be. Thank you for reading.

It's really sad we don't live in a peaceful world, John. I enjoyed reading your poem and thinking about those words. While I think moat people want peace I unfortunately see it happening.

Sadly, Pamela, it is as I say, a “pipe dream.” But the only hope of ever getting close is by as many people as possible having a “peace” mindset, rather than “war” as a solution to problems.

Your poem is important, John. I often wonder why humans have the most developed brain on the planet and yet can be so cruel to other humans. It seems that our greater intelligence compared to other animals is not always helpful.

Thank you for sharing the poem, Ravi. I'm glad I read it.

Linda, that is so true. What is the use of having such a highly developed brain if we don’t use it to better the planet and conditions for everyone and all life on it? Thanks for reading and for your insightful comment.

Thank you very much for this beautiful poem, John. Your poem has a strong message and is thought-provoking. Since childhood, I've been reading words like "Love conquers all," "Love is Peace," and so on, but the findings are frequently contrary to what I expected. I learned by heart that kindness is always returned, yet I've experienced just 30% of people return it, while the rest don't care. Sometimes the world is a scary place.
We only need to be sure that we are sending out positive energy into the universe to attract a little goodness in return; we cannot change everyone, but we can change ourselves; a message like your poem can help people to raise awareness of how wars and conflicts destroy lives, and how important humanity and love are. Poets are the champions; they are mystics and do wonders. Thank you for sharing. smile

    Thanks for sharing, Ravi

    Blessings always! smile

Misbah, your examples from your life experiences are quite sad…only 30% of people returning given kindness. Let’s be positive and think that many more play that kindness forward to others, even if we don’t see it come back to us.
We have to start any change through ourselves and our own actions and send that positive energy out into the universe, as you say. We as writers can do that through our written word as well as physical actions.
Thank you for your continued support, my friend.

It is sad to think that peace is a "pipe dream."  Throughout history, including the present day, we have ongoing wars in places.  As Linda mentioned, one would think that the human brains could devise better ways of dealing with conflicts.  I will continue to hope and pray for peace.  Thanks Ravi for sharing John's poetry with us.

I agree with you and Linda, Peggy. What use is man's superior intellect if we don't use it to make the world better?
