Ok, when I was in the Army I had a security clearance that I will promise you was equal or greater than that of Bradley Manning.
It did not matter what the information was that was classified if you allowed it to be released or God forbid you deliberately released it you were thrown U N D E R the prison.
It made and should make no difference what the data he released is. It is not his right to do that.
Sorry gang but this is NOT a 1st Amendment issue.

So he revealed unpunished mass murders and get's punished for it then deserves nothing? I am grateful there are people willing to do what is right regardless of the consequences, hiding mass murders is always wrong, it's an indictment of our whole system that it took so long for someone to actually do the right thing.
We the American public pay for the military and cover it's wages, it is our military, if it commits mass murders we have a right to know.

Josak are you serious? Most prestige?  This award has been given to terrosist, and Obama?  Why did Obama get it? for getting elected? Hell he has never done ANYTHING, except waste taxpayers money? give me a break!  Didn't Algore get it? then sell his media outlet to oil barrens?  Your thinking blows me away!

You should probably read the reasons those people were given prizes, the causes are listed on award of the prize, Obama for example had lead several international conventions and treaties on nuclear disarmament.

As for AL Jazzeera it is not owned by oil barons at all, it is owned by a media company exclusively since the beginning of 2011. (Google is your friend)

Why all this talk about the Nobel peace prize anyway - there are so many other highly significant nobel prizes in terms of how our future will be shaped eg physics, medicine or literature. I am not downplaying the significance of the peace prize but it is merely one part of the bigger picture.

Well, considering some past recipients of this award, why should this surprise you.  One of the recipients was awarded this prize before he did anything for the world, and is now ordering the "death by drone" of any person deemed to be a terrorist.

So releasing classified information to the public, and our enemies, is perhaps considered a qualifier for this highly coveted award.  I would not be the least surprised if he actually gets the award.

Could it be that the true meaning behind this award has been lost in the shuffle?

    1. Barefootfae profile image60

It really doesn't surprise me. It shows me how ignorant people are.
So he is popular by political correctness because he struck a blow against the military industrial complex. Classified materials are classified for a reason. Someone could lose their life or lives and even such mundane stuff as he was dealing with coudl end up in that result.

      Peace prize? That's a laugh.

In Haditha over 30 people were killed, shot point blank, a 1 year old girl, shot four times, a 3 year old girl shot twice in the head, a four year old boy shot three times in the back, a five year old year old girl shot numerous times, an 8 year old boy shot so many times it was first thought his remains were just gore from other victims.

Obviously the result of mistaking them for terrorists right? The guy who tried to get them some justice at the expense of his job and freedom is obviously a terrible human being.

But of course we all know this sort of thing only comes from the evil United States.
Therefore all classified information produced by the United States should be released right Josak?

          1. Josak profile image60
Josakposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Nope, show me where I said that, are you having this conversation with yourself?

But classified evidence related to mass murders without tactical considerations should indeed be released especially to the people who pay for the army.

I can imagine an argument no more morally bankrupt than calling someone a bad guy for trying to get people who murdered babies brought to justice especially considering the pesonal sacrifice required.

            Pro life my a**.

Now if we could just get the truth about "Fast and Furious" and "Benghazi," we would have some more candidates for this award.  That however will never happen as this truth is the most classified material we have ever seen because our Royalty is involved.

Bradley Manning needs to be in prison for a long long time. When you hold up your hand and swear the oath that means you keep classified classified.
Had it been in my day this would not even be a discussion. See he openly gave that to someone else..that's called espionage.
We used to get lectures about espionage. But look who is in charge now.....

So the guy who makes a huge sacrifice to bring justice to mass murderers of babies deserves tons of jail but people who executed babies, children, the elderly and women, all unarmed at point blank range deserve demotions and small fines, makes total sense.

I guess you unlike Poolman really don't have a functional morality.

Obama was given the award for nuclear non proliferation work, Muslim-American relations work and for the climate change initiatives he created and supported. They also gave the award on the basis of what they hoped he would accomplish (and expressed they were very pleased with the same sex marriage support).

A soldier by extension is a toy. Because the "Army" entrusts them with the security of our country it shall mean full obedience. And, actually, it is what is happening. Like in any regular corporation the little soldier has to obey their rules. What about anybody's conscience? What about the individuality? What do we do as human beings when a problem challenges us? Shall we ignore it and naturally brush it off in the interests of the corporation or shall our humane nature prevail? Whistle blowers are the remnants of what we thought of a democracy. Whistle blowers are the conscience of a country.

How you can disagree with anyone who sacrifices their freedom and job to attempt to bring mass murderers of women and children to justice is beyond me, must be this messed up moral compass I picked up somewhere.

Obviously the correct response to becoming aware of a mass murderer is to cover it up.

Do you think that their innocent lives are that worthless?

Yup they were tried, fines were paid, some were demoted, of course they should have been jailed for life instead but it is not his fault that the military justice system failed.

Refusing to execute jews was treason in NAZI Germany, the definitions of treason are irrelevant to morality, this guy did his best at the expense of his lifestyle, job and freedom to ensure people who murdered babies by shooting them in the head from point blank range were punished and so their families learned what happened to them. I can think of no more noble an act.

Self sacrifice for justice is the act of a HERO.

I'm sorry that's a total cop-out. Where you a soldier did you ever serve? What if they didn't, does that make their opinion anything less? Soldier or not it's your job as a human being to decide what is right and what is wrong.

And whereas America might not be alone in doing horrible acts, we should be the responsible party and own up to our failures to make them better...to give justice to those to deserve it.  Tell me, if your family was innocent and executed by the US..and those soldiers just received just a slap on the wrist wouldn't you want revenge? Maybe terrorist groups have a reason for hating us.

    Barefootfae:

That link goes to website that was founded by Michelle Malkin.  Therefore it has no credibility with me.  It is strictly a right wing mouth piece.  Here is what the about page says.

Hot Air was launched on April 24, 2006, with Michelle Malkin as founder/CEO. Since then, the site has become one of the largest right-of-center blogs on the Internet. Here’s the very first post that appeared at Hot Air–posted at 4:15am after bleary-eyed preparations and an intense team effort to launch the site. Here were Michelle’s reflections on the site’s six-month anniversary.

In 2010, HotAir was acquired and became part of the Townhall/HotAir network alongside Townhall.com and Townhall Magazine in a network of conservative websites with over four million monthly readers.

Technical credit goes to Ed Burns and Mark Jaquith who keep the site running smoothly.

    End of Story for me.

The recent Trayvon Martin Scandal comes to mind with most of the liberal news stations as they decided to show pictures of a 12 year old in lieu of a 17 year old thug.

Why is it people think the now infamous policeman Serpico - who's life was the subject of an Al Pacino movie of the same name - was a great cop for showing up mass police corruption, yet Bradley Manning is pilloried for a similar honesty in showing up the duplicity of Authority and Big Brother in politics. Different values, different laws, sounds like different aspirations to me.

The hot air article was just that... hot air. A dumb article that was deliberately insulting and pathetic, and just waiting for someone equally pathetic to run with it...

Politics is so spent as a force for change in the world now. Truth still counts.

I recall Valerie Plame being outed as a secret agent by former President Bush, after her Politician husband outed Bush for sending him on a wild goose chase in some third world country for WMD that didn't exist. What an ass for a president. The guy who was found guilty of perjuring Plame and was sentenced to 30 months jail time had his sentence commuted by Bush personally.

Politics is a dirty game and the Nobel prize was damaged permanently because they gave it to Obama, on political grounds. They may as well give out coupons now. This will probably be followed by song contests, beauty pageants and literary prizes. Nice example to set for our future kids.
