Texas Buses Illegal Immigrants to Washington D.C

Texas governor sends buses of illegal immigrants to D.C., (and New York?), and the mayors are going nuts.

D.C. says Texas tricked the bus riders and New York says Texas gov. is a coward.

Both are demanding federal funds to cover the cost of the influx of illegals.

I liked Texas Gov. Abbot's response: If Washington won't come to the border, I will bring the border to Washington. (paraphrased)

This is rich. We heard nothing from these folks when the problem wasn't theirs, but now that they have to share it, they're crying foul.

I saw that.  I could be wrong, but I think at least one more state (New Mexico?) is doing it as well.  As you say, it's great when someone else has the problem, not so great when it's theirs, and suddenly the feds have to cover the cost.

        Just as a thought . . . in the political vein . . .

This could be a Republican 'counter-boon' to the Democrats' SCOTUS ruling issue.

The publicity of bus and plane loads of 'asylum seekers' flooding into Democrat-stronghold cities might cause their folks to take a second look at what they really want.

That 'not in my backyard' perspective crosses all lines. If this trend follows in other border states, (sending to Blue cities), I think it will be on the minds of a lot of Democrat voters in November. Especially after they have time to see that Fed money won't solve it for them.

I bet we will see a lot of 'relief' money going to those cities this summer, but the structural relief is needed instantly, (primarily more housing), and that takes more time than they have before the elections. It might even take long enough to affect Democrats in the '24 elections.

I don't think it is a "counter-boon" - I recall hearing rumblings that they were going to do just what they are doing some time ago.  Long before the SCOTUS ruling.

I also know that several states (including mine) have sent police to border states to try and help those states control border crossings as the feds aren't doing the job.  This isn't a new problem - it has just gotten to the point that border states are fed up with the lack of response of the feds at the border.

"This could be a Republican 'counter-boon' to the Democrats' SCOTUS ruling issue."

I doubt it, the reproductive rights issues and the conservative, Red GOP doubling down response is going to be of far more significance, just watch and see.

You are probably right. I didn't intend to equate them, just to wonder what effect it will have on city Dems. November will tell us.

Need I say the word hypocrite?  But I think  Gov. Abbot summed it up much better so loud so clear, so actually funny  --   If Washington won't come to the border, I will bring the border to Washington.

Hopefully, more migrants will be sent to other Democratic states. I mean it's all about love, and being open to immigration in this administration.  And have you not heard, Mayorkas claims the borders are closed, and we have no border problems.

I must say I truely am enjoying watching Republicans nowadays,  finally showing they have backbones.

"Warning that her city’s services have been overwhelmed, the mayor of Washington, D.C., has asked the Biden administration for the National Guard’s help in assisting migrants being bused to the nation’s capital by Texas and Arizona.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, in two letters sent last week to the Department of Defense and the White House, said that she empathizes with the recently arrived people but that the city needs help processing and housing the migrants until they reach their final destinations.

“The pace of the arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points,” Bowser wrote in a July 19 letter to the office of the U.S. secretary of defense. “Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed.”

She said that nongovernmental organizations had helped 4,000 people since April when Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas and Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona started to transport migrants to cities on the East Coast, including Washington."

She said that nongovernmental organizations had helped 4,000 people since April when Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas and Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona started to transport migrants to cities on the East Coast, including Washington.

“The regional service center we helped establish in Montgomery County, Maryland is at capacity; our homeless services system is already under great strain; and tragically, many families arrive in Washington, DC with nowhere to go, or they remain in limbo seeking onward destinations across the United States,” she wrote.

“With pledges from Texas and Arizona to continue these abhorrent operations indefinitely, the situation is dire, and we consider this a humanitarian crisis — one that could overwhelm our social support network without immediate and sustained federal intervention.”

Apr 8, 2022 — Estimates put Texas' illegal immigrant population at about 1.7 million. It seems Texas is truely overrun with migrants and needs to encourage many to move on to other states. It would seem we would close our borders until we can gain some control over this mess.  yes I know we have been told the borders are closed --- but they are wide open.
