One could say, the game is on... Today Americans will vote across the nation. We have already seen record numbers of pre-mail voting and early walk-in voting. Some Democrats, as well as Democrat elites, have come out and stated --- If we lose we will have lost Democracy as we know it. It will be no more.
I have always felt voting is the very most important building block of Democracy. So, it would appear that if I were to believe the Democrat's message, if they lose Democracy is dead. Does that mean the majority no longer matters? Is not the voice of the majority another building block of Democracy?
Democracy, in my view, is a system of government with key elements, a system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections. Active participation of the people, that make their voices heard. Protection of the human rights of all citizens.
So, after the last vote is cast, and the last vote is counted, are we to respect the majority, or are we to discount the majority's voice, and believe as some have told us to consider democracy dead? Not respect the outcome, and fall into what one political party has told us to believe? Do we want to move into a one-party system and move totally away from another building block of democracy?
Have we come to a society where some no longer respect democracy, and how it holds a wonderful balance, where the
voices of the people are respected each and every time they cast a vote.
it is clear that tomorrow we will have winners and losers. Will you respect the majority or will you disregard the will of the people?
Make sure to vote today -- be heard...
I agree to respect the will of the people, but ask some of the Republican candidates if they would accept a loss gracefully as there are a few that would not acknowledge their having lost an election except for the possibility of "fraud".
Perhaps it is time for me to move to Canada....
I know that you are an election fraud denier, but this does happen everywhere and it might happen in your country too. If someone wins at the ballot booth but then gets 100% of the mail in votes does that not raise a red flag? It is the duty of citizens of a democracy to question an election if it was rigged, and if your president is a part of it is imperative that you all take a part in protest.
Here in Brazil we had presidential elections on October 31st. There are now protests all over the country because the supreme court has mandated that no one is allowed to challenge the results. There is obvious fraud in many districts where one candidate is getting 100% of the votes.(That does not happen except in North Korea. Do you know of any town in Florida that votes 100% Democrat or 100% Republican? There are always a few people in the community that vote for an opposing party. The socialist probably won easily, but so far there have been 15,000 fake votes identified.)
Many citizens are protesting (Imagine how you would feel if Trump were convicted of treason and then his buddies on the supreme court released him so he could run for president in 2024.) He probably did win but since the courts will not allow any one to discuss the election results no one is happy the situation. Anyone that challenges this on social media has their account blocked. (One of my employees had her Facebook account blocked for six months because she posted a video of the protests.) If they discover I am writing this they can come to my house and arrest me.
I realize this duy is not your favorite TV character, but what he says about Biden and the Brazilian elections are true. You are no longer allowed to ask questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMcXx_Fh9dQ
I hope your election goes a lot smoother than it has down here. If things change radically though after the votes are counted that have come through the post office I think you should all question them.
Hiya, Doc.
I needed to get back with you on this.
Yes, I, like most citizens want integrity in elections. However, here it appears that those that complain are those that lose and that is coming primarily from one side of the political spectrum. No election is going to be incident free. If that were the standard we would have no elections. Any anomaly in an election would have to be substantive enough and frequent enough to have had an affect on the official outcome. That I have not seen and certainly has not been proven as this is the only standard that can be rationally clinged to.
I have heard about Brazil and offer my hearty congratulations to Mr. Lula.
There, it seems that even though this contest was much closer than anticipated, there can only be one winner. If anyone suspects fraud it would need to be ferreted out and proven that were it not for the alleged fraud Bolsonaro would have won. Are the Bolsonaro people prepared to do this?
It is highly unlikely that any one sizable community would vote 100 percent for one party over another. But can you prove that the reason was fraud and if it were, was it of the frequency and magnitude to change the outcome?
If who you are alluding to, Lula, was convicted of a crime that should have come with a punishment, yet he is released to run for office, I would have a problem with anyone convicted of felonious acts being allowed to run for the nation's president.
But, I can't speak regarding the integrity of your legal system or the viability of your democracy. I would just certainly frown upon that here. But inspite of all of this, unless Trump is explicitly convicted of fomenting insurrection and treason, for which the 14th amendment would bar him from political office, he could easily attempt a 2024 run. Short of his death or imprisonment, I won't be rid of this man.
I take any threat to the democratic process and certain rights reserved for the citizen seriously whether it comes from either Left or Right. Those that attempt to muzzle the truth should be cause to raise a big red flag, either here or In Brazil.
The Democrats did better than expected considering head winds that Biden faced regarding inflation and the economy. Yet, Many Americans considering (Trump, Abortion, Rule of Law, extremist rightwing candidates) issues have been put off by extremism to the point that Republican expectations and anticipation for this election have been dashed.
Of course, integrity of the ballot must be the objective of us all, but after all the questions have been answered and we have traversed every rabbit hole, at the end of the day there is a winner and a loser. And both sides have to respect the outcome.
I appreciate you answered the question I posed. I am pleased to hear you will accept the will of the people.
I think we will need to see if any losers will stamp their feet. Could we see some on both sides?
I will respect the Constitutional Republic. Democrats have skewed the meaning of Democracy to fit only their image. They way biden talks, Democrats are the Democracy.
It was not in any fashion an example of Democracy the way that Biden, as well as Obama, spoke about Democracy in the past few days. Making ridiculous claims it would be gone if the Democrats did not keep the majority in Congress.
So, I agree, the democrats have badly skewed the meaning of Democracy. We have two political parties, they are hell-bent to do away with one... I hope Americans speak loudly tonight, and it will wake the Dems up to what the people want from their representatives.
Sharlee: The question is will you respect democracy and the outcome of the election results?...So much for the red wave and Trump endorsed candidates. Michael Moore maybe was right. This all has to do with pro-choice women voters tipping the scales in favor of the Dems.
I think it has more to do with red vs. blue.
We are not color blind. We are not party blind.
We are not indy-thinkers. We are not future-oriented, calm or logical.
We are emotional simpletons. We too easily procreate and then give our kids to the state, expecting mothers to work rather than mother. We end up spoiling our offspring which leads them toward lifestyles of indulgence and sloth. What else can they do but hold out their hands for whatever the government will give them. Meanwhile, we encourage single motherhood by allowing them to attach themselves to the government, rather than a man who will love and cherish her, and whom she could love and cherish for as long as the two shall live.
Maybe a fear of being corny is the root of all the madness.

"Sharlee: The question is will you respect democracy and the outcome of the election results?"
Did you read my OP? I feel my words, the context clearly was to share I respect the elements of our Democracy. Especially the voice of the majority.
"So much for the red wave "
Last I checked the numbers, Republicans have the new majority in the House, with 55 not in yet. I would think Republicans may just get the one seat that will offer them a Republican majority. To soon to call.
We will have a Republican majority, with a new republican speaker. So, I am very pleased with last night's results. Americans came out in record numbers and voted. It truely showed that Democracy is alive and well.
I was pleased to see races were close, and this tells me citizens are invigorated, involved, and caring about the direction the country is headed, some pleased, some not pleased. But so many committed to their beliefs, on both sides.
So, yes, my side won, and yes now are a majority, so to answer your question -- yes I am pleased with the outcome, and naturally, I respect the results. But I would have respected the results no matter what, even if my side would have lost.
I think both our parties won... I have shared I had faith that Americans would right the ship, and I think they did. Look at the turnout.
The country is so split, but I feel the majority's voice was heard last night. And the lost voices were also heard, so many races were so close... One must consider we have diverse parties, and both came out strong yesterday. This to me is pure Democracy.
I think the Democrats got better than they really felt they would, and you should be very pleased with that fact.
I will be very honest in regard to Trump-backed candidates, I did not keep track of all he supported. As I have shared, I hope Trump will not run in 2024, I am hoping Desantis will be our candidate. I think my party will be in trouble I Trump runs.
Now we move on to look forward to 2024.
