In my view, Biden's move to have a Jan 6th commemoration will worsen our divide in America in many respects. I might add, his decision will be looked upon as not only divisive but blatantly political.
(Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden plans to commemorate the second anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol with a White House ceremony, according to a schedule released by his office on Monday. Biden's schedule said Friday's ceremony would take place in the White House's East Room. No further details were provided.
This Thread is about the above paragraph. We here at HP have beaten the Jan 6th riot to a slow death So, hopefully, we are not directed at the Jan 6th riot. This is not about Trump, It's about Biden's decision to commemorate the riot that occurred on Jan 6th.
Simply, do you feel the Jan 6th riot needs to be commemorated? Hopefully, you will share thoughts on why or why not.
Commemorate a riot? What in the world is he thinking? If he's thinking at all!
No, that is nothing more than yet another political ploy to demonize anyone not of their political persuasion with exaggerations, false rhetoric and loaded words.
He is very destructive and will do just about anything to get votes.
+10000000000000000, Biden had better be thinking about how to repair the worsening economy. To reiterate, the inflation rate is at an all time high. Biden should be thinking about how to repair the borders as illegals are coming to this country & as a result, social support systems are being drained. Biden clearly isn't presidential material. A smart 10 year old could do a better job than Biden.
Always remember the 7th of December..... and the 6th of January.
This January 6th event cannot and will not be quietly forgotten, this was a pr cedent much like the attack on the White House in 1812, have we even seen the like in the over 200 years since? Let the event serve as a warning as with Ancient Rome being sAcked by barbarians.
Very hyperbolic.
Trying to compare this with the sacking of Rome. Or 1812.
Were people raped and murdered, buildings burned and pillaged?
Let's try to keep it in the realm of reality, I recognize that more and more Americans are becoming disconnected with any sense of that today, but there is no reason for you to join them.
The realm of reality is that there have been uprisings and riots in the US since the Whiskey Rebellion of the 1790s. In well over 2 centuries they remain without number.
My view seems crystal clear enough for me.
If there were more this rabble on the scene and if they could have actually found the legislators they were railing about, who knows what might have happened.
Our National Capitol was attacked by a mob, for the first time in over 2 centuries, that in itself gives it a prominent place in the history books.
Ys we have had riots and uprisings since it was conceived as a nation. Have we commemorated any?
Hopefully, the historians will be truthful in describing the incident.
Yep, maybe, just maybe, it won't enter into the realm of another "9-11".
Want to be there are no pilots somewhere in the thousands that rioted in that wonderful summer? Even some techies that can modify a small plane to fly remote, making a drone out of it?
Yeah, we can hope there isn't another 9-11.
The National Capitol is the people's place.
At least, it is meant to be, in America.
What was attacked were the corrupt criminals that enrich themselves at the expense of the people. The current protectors of the dysfunctional, criminal, political body of Congress and the government Agencies that they should oversea and control (but don't).
Things that are being revealed as true, from the Twitter files Musk had released. Any person who is a critical thinker would have concluded this long before such expose.
The MSM media has done a masterful job of painting these individuals as extremists, racists, and threats to America.
The MSM has done a masterful job of painting Trump as an extremist, racist, rapist, and traitor to America.
Plenty of people choose to believe this narrative.
I have a good life, so I accept the system 'as is' despite the wrongs I know it does here, and around the world, at least I do so with honest understanding of what my government is and does.
Other people, need the likes of CNN and MSNBC to tell them what is good and bad, what is right and wrong... what to believe and why.
Best wishes of the New Year for you and yours, Ken.
We are always going to disagree regarding the purpose and objectives of the mobs of January 6, 2021. I don't see Fox (America's most watched network) or breitbart as any more credible than MsN or CNN. My opinions are going differ from yours for any variety of reasons, some of which we have discussed in the past.
"The MSM media has done a masterful job of painting these individuals as extremists, racists, and threats to America."
Well, Ken, weren't they? Check the composite of demographics to see the backgrounds of the "people" that are not those of typical sub set of an American populace.
I don't need MSN to convince me of what I can see before me; Trump is and always has been a jerk.
Will we remember the Portland riots? CHAZ, in Seattle? Those in Minneapolis and many other cities?
No, they will be forgotten. The one, months long, in Portland has already been set aside as Portlanders (that I've talked to anyway) pretend there is nothing wrong, that the direct results still apparent today never happened.
Why then commemorate, or remember, a tiny, hours long riot in DC? Because it scared the rich and powerful? I don't think so - it's long past time that those riots came home to roost in their neighborhood.
You are so right. The riots are seldom mentioned at all where cities were looted & set on fire......hmmm, it seems to be a double standard here.
Wilderness, as I told Ken, we have had riots in this country since its founding, nothing new there.
We commemorate January 6th because of ominous significance associated with attacking the national Capitol, the rule of law and Constitutional prescription as to how to identify the winners, rather than give in to the whiners. The significance of the attack is far greater and as such will not be forgotten and will always serve as a warning to the general public of the temerity of extremists and their fundamental hatred of the democratic process. So, the Right can spin this like a top, but I know better.
https://thehill.com/policy/national-sec … 6-rioters/
The motives for most of the rioters were to support the lying claims of "Agent Orange" that the election was rigged just because he lost. There is nothing aspirational about it, it was just dumb. Basically, saying that our man wins because we say so, regardless of his election loss.
As I said, that has to be amongst the lowest motivation to riot that there ever was.
The Right tries to sell us on this idea of attacking elites, when it was about overturning democratic processes. They can sell it, but I don't buy it. They were and are a worthless hoard of rabble.
So well put. I might add did the citizens that entered the Peoples House not have the same rights to freedom of speech, and protest as all those that burned and killed in the "summer of love riots that went on for over 90 days?
Would seem to me we should truly remember the total breakdown of our law endorsement, due to being told to stand down. When officers were pelted with harmful objects that ended up in hundreds were injured.
At least 25 Americans were killed during protests and political unrest in 2020 --- https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ … rest-acled
"How much property was destroyed in the George Floyd riots?
However, the violence by early June 2020 had resulted in two deaths, 604 arrests, an estimated $550 million in property damage to 1,500 locations, making the Minneapolis–Saint Paul events alone the second-most destructive period of local unrest in United States history, after the 1992 Los Angeles riots." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Floyd_protests
Here are just a few of the victims killed in the 2020 riots. Perhaps we could commemorate their deaths?
David Dorn, a 77-year-old retired St. Louis police captain was shot and killed on June 2 by looters who broke into a pawn shop. Dorn went to the pawn shop to check on a burglar alarm.
Chris Beaty, 38, who played football for Indiana University and was known as “Mr. Indianapolis,” was shot and killed on the street in downtown Indianapolis on May 30 during a protest.
Dorian Murrell, 18, was fatally shot in Indianapolis the same night as Beaty.
Italia Kelly, 22, was shot and killed June 1 in Davenport, Iowa, as she was leaving a protest outside a Walmart.
Kelly and a friend were getting in a vehicle to leave because a protest had turned unruly when she was struck in the back by a bullet, said her aunt, Amy Hale of Atchison, Kansas. No arrests have been made.
Marquis Tousant, 23, of Rock Island, Ill., was shot and killed in Davenport the same night as Kelly.
He was found dead near where police say one or more persons fired 13 shots at an unmarked police truck investigating a suspicious car in an alley around 3 a.m.,
Patrick Underwood, 53, a federal officer, died as he was providing security at a U.S. courthouse in Oakland, Calif., during a protest when someone fired shots from a vehicle. Another officer was critically wounded.
Calvin Horton Jr., a 43-year-old black man was fatally shot outside a Minneapolis pawn shop on May 27, two days after Floyd’s death.
James Scurlock, a 22-year-old black man, was killed Saturday after authorities said he tussled with the owner of two downtown bars. Surveillance video of the strip of bars shows a group of people, including Scurlock, approaching white bar owner Jake Gardner.
Javar Harrell, a 21-year-old man, was killed in downtown Detroit on June 5 after someone fired shots into a vehicle during a protest.
Barry Perkins III, 29, of St. Louis, was killed May 30 after climbing between two trailers of a FedEx truck during an interstate protest near downtown St. Louis.
Jorge Gomez, 25, of Las Vegas, was shot fatally shot by officers breaking up a protest in downtown Las Vegas on June 1.
Jose Gutierrez, 28, of Chicago, was fatally shot during unrest following a protest in Cicero on June 1, according to reports.
Victor Cazares Jr., 27, was fatally shot near a grocery store in Cicero the same night as Gutierrez in a separate incident. Cazares was from Cicero.
Marvin Francois, 50, was shot and killed May 31 after a protest in Kansas City, Mo., according to reports.
Police said his killers were three carjackers trying to steal his car, Fox 4 KC reported.
AND these deaths occurred all before June 8th... Need I list many more that occurred during the Summer Of Love?
I would think this type of riot should be long remembered for the destruction, violence, and law-hate enforcement officers were made to endure.
More so than a couple of hundred protesters that rioted for a couple of hours at the Capitol. Congress was able to reconvene by 7 pm to resume their work. The building was safe to do business for the people.
We had ONE FACTUAL DEATH at the capitol, that of one woman, a veteran by the name of Ashli Babbitt. She was shot by an officer while claiming through a window. She was unarmed. She was white, the officer black. Did you hear any cry of racism from the media or the general public? I did not.
Here are what the media is calling related deaths, none of which can factually be proved to be caused due to the Jan 6th riot.
https://www.factcheck.org/2021/11/how-m … itol-riot/
Let's not forget to mention the Sedition by Antifa and BLM in Seattle and the Insurrection by Antifa and BLM in Portland or the Insurrection at the White House by Antifa and BLM thugs in 2020 riots.
You'll never hear the Nazi Democrats and the Woke POS mention that any time soon.
Of course , there is a double standard here.
I believe the Nazi Democrats who supported and defended the Sedition and Insurrection by Antifa and BLM in the summer of 2020 should be held accountable. They can start with Harris and then work down the list of the Nazi Democrats . Charge them all under 18 USC Ch.115 §2383 and §2384. Also charge the Mayors of Seattle, Portland and D.C.
You can add the mayor of Sacramento and any other legislator that aids in creating a "sanctuary" area for illegal aliens. People that aid others in violating the law are violating themselves and should be punished accordingly.
Today, Biden once again stood at a podium and shared mistruths repeatedly. He seemed to once again just be making things up as he spoke. At one point, Jamie Raskin could not be present due to cancer. While it is true Raskin did announce he has a form of cancer, he is still at work. He has been present all week on the House Floor voting on the election of a new House Speaker. Source on Raskins whereabouts. https://clerk.house.gov/members/R000606
Hopefully, the new speaker will call for the president to undergo a complete cognitive assessment. He is clearly having problems with reality.
What biden DID NOT say in his January 6 th speech....I would like to thank all of those in Law Enforcement to stood their ground at the White House to protect those within the White House against the Insurrectionist mob of Antifa and BLM who rioted at the White House in the summer of 2020. Thank you also for protecting our president Donald Trump. Also many thanks to the Law Enforcement and Federal police who protected and defended the Federal Court House in Portland against Insurrectionist mob of Antifa and BLM thugs who rioted at the Court House for over 120 days in the summer of 2020. Althoungh many of in Law Enforcement who were injured and hurt stood your ground to protect the lives of those in the White House and the Federal Court House against thousands of Antifa and BLM Insurrectionists thugs. To those of the Law Enforcement all across America who did their duty to protect and serve the people through out this country against the Insurrectionist mobs of Antifa and BLM during their rioting. looting and burning of our cities across America in 2020. Law Enforcement across America has my utmost respect and thank you for a job well done.
You'll never hear that from biden...........POS
And you are/were a nurse? SMH
In any case, Jamie Raskins own words proved him right.
Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today sent the following statement to an event hosted by nonprofit Public Citizen and other advocacy organizations in commemoration of the second anniversary of the January 6th insurrection.
“To My Friends at Public Citizen: I’m sorry I can’t be there with you and only doctors’ orders would keep me away.
https://raskin.house.gov/press-releases … 12E0FAD226
Please read my comment --- "He seemed to once again just be making things up as he spoke. At one point, Jamie Raskin could not be present due to cancer. While it is true Raskin did announce he has a form of cancer, he is still at work. " Actually he was on the house floor for every vote this past week. He did not miss one vote
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 … tally.html
My comment had a clear context. I did not in any respect question his health issue. I quote Biden -- and was fully aware of an interview where Raskin gave every indication he would be working through his treatment. I knew he was at work all this week, on the floor voting.
Biden's quote --"His own congressman, a true constitutional scholar, Jamie Raskin — who couldn’t be here today as he recovers from cancer treatments, but he called — he wanted me to say the following, and I wrote it down: “Officer Harry Dunn acted with remarkable courage and valor to defend both our institutions and our people.” He went on to say, “Generations to come will think of him and these officers and thank them for their service.” End of quote." https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-roo … ens-medal/
Dec 29, 2022 -- Quote from Raskin on newly diagnosed cancer, and treatment, as well as outlook in regards to working. -- “After several days of tests, I have been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, which is a serious but curable form of cancer," Raskin, D-Md., said in a statement, adding that he'll undergo "a course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis."
Raskin, 60, was elected last week by his fellow Democrats to be the ranking member on the Oversight and Reform Committee when the new Congress is sworn in next week.
“I expect to be able to work through this period but have been cautioned by my doctors to reduce unnecessary exposure to avoid COVID-19, the flu, and other viruses," Raskin said. "Prognosis for most people in my situation is excellent after four months of treatment."
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congre … -rcna63548
.
I was unaware of this Quote from the link you shared. "To My Friends at Public Citizen: I’m sorry I can’t be there with you and only doctors’ orders would keep me away."
Not sure if this statement can be looked at as truthful, he was artwork and gave the media the idea that he would work through his treatment if all went well.
My career has nothing to do with what I stated. What I observed worked to provide information in regard to Raskin's ability to continue working, and I was unaware he put out a statement on why he could not attend the Jan 6th ceremony. The bottom line he was at work, and he could have appeared at the ceremony, his health was not a factor this past week. He spent endless hours at work and did not miss a vote.
I can also share, I may be biased in regard to Raskin. I find he lies frequently to suit his own purpose. His history preseeds him. I have a poor view of this man.
You could have spare the map. I am aware of his diagnosis and his willingness to work while on treatment.
My comment stands. I can identify partisan BS when I read it.
And as a sister of a cancer patient battling stage 4 for a year now, and that is still under treatment, Im quite surprised you dont know that you can be almost perfect for days and unable to get out of bed the next. As a nurse I would have thought that you knew how chemo and or radiation work.
You can think he is a liar. But the basis of your judgement (he was at work before) is ignorant.
"My comment stands. I can identify partisan BS when I read it."
I have never tried to hide my partisan affiliation with the Republican party. I am a strong supporter of the party. So, shocked it took you so long to recognize that. I think you may be the only one on this forum that may have not recognized that I am partisan. I mean I have called the Democratic party slimy and pointed out every problem I come across about the Democratic party. So, I guess we agree on me being partisan.
I am in no respect going to discuss cancer treatments or anything that pertains to cancer with you. Period So, although I have sympathy for your "My sister story"... You are diverting.
The fact is, and my point is Rakin was at work all WEEK and could have made his way to the White House for that Commemoration.
To be straightforward, and polite, not really interested in your view on this one.
No one could confused you for a unbiased person. But glad you admit you're a partisan BSter.
Dont worry, I dont care if you arent interested.
But for anyone not familiar with cancer patients:
The fact is, and my point is Rakin was at work all WEEK and could have made his way to the White House for that Commemoration.
"The fact is, and my point is Rakin was at work all WEEK... Could be a fact, havent checked. And is irrelevant. But the rest, is just ignorance at its best.
I think most will see the context of the conversation. And Hopefully, realize I admitted to being partisan in regard to the Republican political party. . This party represents my values, as well as my ideologies. So, will I ever claim to be an unbiased person when it comes to political parties? No, that just would not be my truth.
In regard to Raskin being at work present on the House floor, I offered a link that shows his recorded vote. You may have missed it. Congresspersons were required to be present to vote. I would not just assume he was there when commenting. Hey, In my view Raskin should be more truthful, maybe not say in one breath can't be there due to illness constraints, yet end up a couple of blocks away working.
You certainly limited the discussion. OK. Do I feel the Jan 6th riot needs to be commemorated? Since we remember The Alamo, Pearl Harbor, and 9/11 then we need to remember one of the four darkest days in American history.
And while we are at it, I think we need to take notice of the fact that every single Democrat member of the US House attended a moment of silence for those who lost their lives on Jan. 6th. Do you know how many Republican members attended? 1
Yes we need to remember the summer of 2020. Massive riots, looting burning and other forms of mayhem by the Nazi Antifa and BLM as the darkest months in Americas history. Remember the big cities throughout America they tried to burn to the ground, Let's not forget that.
Being straightforward, and polite, can work to save the energy it takes to go back and forth disagreeing. Once views have been shared, and it is obvious there will be no middle ground, it is just time, to be honest, to walk away from a conversation.

Let's face it, Republicans and Democrats have been big spenders and now have new taxes for us to pay. Should we riot and protest like the French? That way we can finally become European just the way the Democrats have always wanted it? All views are welcome.
