Why are men so prone to leaving their wives when they (wives) are diagnosed with a terminal disease?

Here is a quote from CNN Health: "Terminally ill cancer patients have a higher-than-average divorce rate, and it's almost always the husband leaving his sick wife, according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology." I lost my wife to breast cancer in 2008. I never thought of leaving. I'm not patting myself on the back for doing what it was only right to do, but what are the reasons a husband would leave his wife at such a time as this?
