What kind of people do you respect?

I usually see people respecting famous and rich people. But my view is entirely different. It's through the direct interaction with a person that makes me decide if I should respect the person or not. What is your opinion?

People who do not feel the are more empowered than everyone else.  Today I find that most people believe what their parents said, "You are the best and the world is yours."

What the parents did not teach was common courtesy and common sense.  All day you can see people trying to beat the line by breaking in ahead of everyone else.  This is because the are late.  Lack of common sense and lack of courtesy that they are more important than everyone else.

I have often wondered what these people did with the extra 6 or 10 seconds they gained by being jerks.  Did they put it a jar to save for the end of there life, or did they squander it on something useless as a cellphone call.

Everyone deserves respect.  There may be traits or conduct that we do not like in some people; but we do not have all the facts about why they behave the way they do. We can choose not to interact with them, but we owe the basic courtesies to everyone--to all kinds of people.

Well said! I agree with MsDora. I would rephrase it to, "What characteristics do you admire in another person?" That being said, I admire a person who is humble, compassionate, hardworking, patient, understanding, motivated to achieve more in life.

I respect people who know the value of hard work, not people who get off on getting on other people or who basically cheat their way though life.

I basicly respect everyone who respects me back. We do not need to be friends for life but if the person behave the way he wants to be treat then I have no reasons to act differently. Everyone deserve the best and even if the person is disrespectful we can show him by our attitude we wont play his game :-)

I respect people on the basis of their values, holding themselves with honesty, integrity, humility and humanity. They are not usually ones that scream into your face or too obvious or visible and yet they are the ones you need to have around when in need of help or advice.

I respect people who stick to their principles through thick and thin. That's why I respect Mahatma Gandhi. He never sought power nor wealth for himself or his family, although he could easily have done so. I never had any direct interaction with him, yet he has my highest respect.

Having said that, rich and famous people are usually not worth respecting. "Behind every great fortune there is a crime", says Honore de Balzac. If I see a wealthy man and I find out that he's a politician, then I know what he's up to, in the Malaysian context. Many people admire Mahathir Mohamad, the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia. His is one rags-to-riches story, and I don't have to elaborate as to how his family became a multi-billionaire family.

In my opinion, a man of strong character deserves all kind of respect. Character is a tree, and fame is its shadow. A person with a strong character  is always given value  because of his truthfulness. The way he spends time with true thoughts gives a review of his character and thus he bears a higher place among all other human beings including rich and famous.

I respect people who are open-minded and look outside of the box and beyond.  People that show compassion and inner strength to carry forward in life even though they have major obstacles to overcome they keep trying to move forward not giving up.

I respect every one until they show no respect. Others in society, people that have important roles on a way that a person lives on a day-to-day basis, earn the respect of individuals by assisting others.then the different cultures have different respects with each other that we might not respect.Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected.

To me all men are created equal. With that being said, I respect all people. I admire people with integrity, a strong work ethic, and intelligence.

I respect people who own up to their mistake and aren't hypocrites.  One thing I can't stand is a person who throws somebody else under the bus so they won't get in trouble.  The best kinds of people don't need to flaunt their greatness or get on TV and lecture others about what makes them worth my time.  They lead by example, encourage and direct rather than order and belittle.  For them it is about striving every day to become a better human being rather than trampling others to get what they want.

I respect only those people who have their own self respect. I never going to respect such who are rude and do not understand some one feelings. And above all respect is some thing which comes for some one directly. No one can force to respect some one anyhow.
