    According to my knowledge it was not biblical to have more than one wife, although the bible is a little inconsistent. But I guess the men that had more women did this because their wealth made this possible and to be sure to have more sons. I think this inconsistency rises from the fact that the bible says "go forth and multiply". This is easier when you have more wife’s. Tolerance is a good thing smile

    Societies with high infant mortality rates encourage men to have more than one wife, so they can have more children.  On the other hand, poor societies that can't afford a high birth rate encourage women to have more than one husband.  This is practiced in Tibet and parts of northern India, and is called polyandry.  Interesting how the Bible never mentions that... though it did condemn the Woman at the Well, who practiced serial polygamy by marrying 5 times, and shacking with a man.
