Do people feel better about themselves after pushing their religion on others?

Is there something gained by pushing your beliefs on other people? What makes people think this is okay?

I often wonder why people need to (share) their beliefs with others or try to persuade them to subscribe to their beliefs.
I'm personally of the mindset that its best to lead by (example). If someone sees how well you are doing they will (approach you) to learn what your secret is.
However I must point out that people try to force non-religious beliefs on others just as much. (politics, moral behavior, fashion choices, short dresses, low cut tops, wearing fur, and lifestyle choices - smoking, drinking...etc) They want (others) to change!
Some people aren't content with just living their own life!

I'm okay with sharing beliefs, just not okay with needing to tell others they must share those beliefs regardless of the topic.

Spreading the good news is one thing. But, attacking others for what they believe is another. This is when it has gone too far.

So long as someone who is sharing their views is open to polite debate then I see no problem. It's when it gets to the point of calling names I have a problem with it no matter what the belief behind it is.

I think "spreading the good news" may come under the heading of "pushing religion".  Words are easy - best to lead by example.

Perhaps they are insecure and need some bolstering.   Its much like knowing who the really tough guys are - the big talkers are usually all mouth while the toughest guy around doesn't need to tell you how tough he is.

Those who feel compelled to push their views, whatever they are, on another individual may not realize that what they see externally is a reflection of what is on the inside. When we see a reflection we are seeing the opposite or mirror image, backwards, if you will. If we are insecure with who or what we are, we feel must correct that image. Yin and Yang, so to speak. Often, and we all do it, we fail to see ourselves as one and the glorious expansion of the same source of all being.
    Peace be with you!

I truly believe some people get off on it, like how a flasher gets off  by showing his frank and beans to women in the park. It's a mental disease for some.

I never push religion on anyone.
I just ask them to keep an open mind.
One may get into a dire situation and ask " Why"
It's easy to explain if they have a belief in something rather than thinking life is random.
But how to make someone religious is just something that turns me off.

I see nothing wrong with that so long as you are okay when someone of a different belief system asks you to keep an open mind. Nothing wrong with sharing beliefs. Just with expecting others to do as you do.

There was only once when some ignorant kid said if Christ was around he would crucify him again. I was so angry at his remarks I really yelled. I said not to bash others beliefs. This was a college kid.

I'd guess so..why else would they do it? Nothing like believing you have the correct answer.
Remember when you were at school and the teacher would ask a question and those kids that would almsot wet their pants waving their hand in the air..gloating because they believed they had the correct answer.."pick me..pick me.."
re/religious views being pushed.....kinda ignorant, kinda arrogant..kinda painful that some are sooooo convinced and  soooo closed minded to the sensitivities of others and their spiritual path....I'm feeling better after that..Amen.

Unfortunately, I think that many people think it's not 'pushing' their beliefs on another.  They are so happy to be of their faith, that all should be, and they shall be the one to tell everyone so.  It starts off like this anyway, then they continue, thinking that it's okay to do it, and become blinded to the fact that in their over-zealous-ness that not everyone has to agree or abide by the rules of their faith....

And...therein comes the problem - they no longer consider it 'pushing' one's faith.

(There were so many cheeky things that came to mind - like "quota" etc....and I behaved! Yay me!)

Great answer, I agree with your assessment of the way they think, I know many people who do that, they are so happy with their faith, that they just want to share. and end up trying to push it down your throat.

I grew up Baptist (but as I say, I got over it), and there is a verse in the Bible that the Baptists call "the Great Commission". I can't quote it exactly, but paraphrasing it, Jesus said to go into the world and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Lord (Holy Spirit or something like that). I don't know if the other protestant religions teach that or not, however, it "obligates" the practioner of that religion to do just that. We were taught that if we didn't, we were not being good Christians. So many of these people are indoctrinated into shoving their religion into other peoples' faces because of this one Bible verse. For a Baptist, there is no "if", "and", or "maybe" about it. You are commanded to do it by the church.

There are some that feel better because they are indoctrinated with a sense of superiority over those who believe differently than they do.

Yes most feel that they are accomplishing a great work of obedience and suffering for their cause (martyrdom) when hammering people with their 2nd hand beliefs.

If they were first hand beliefs, then their actions would carry the message and not their half empty words.
