In a neighboring city there is a population of 9000 and there are 126 churches. Isn't this excessive and a waste of money(for the rents and building costs)? What's the point in having so many.
sort by best latest
This is certainly the case with some. I think many mega churches are cesspools of greed. However, most actual churches are living week by week, behind with the bills much like ordinary people.
Or the appearance is perpetrated as such so that folks will give more, which church will receive more the glamorous one or the one that has the appearance of need, its a con game with no rules, don't be naive!
Again, I said many churches operate that way, but certainly not all. A church should disclose budget info to members. I've been on staff with several churches, seen bank acct info, etc to know how things run behind the scenes.
Good for you, my point of course is, that the reason for so many churches is that it can be an easy way to create/sustain a way of life without having to offer much in return.
Faith based initiatives do not require a physical return for money given!
Fair enough. Key words there are "can be." However, don't blame someone for being naïve or a sucker because they are actually a part of a church. That kind of sweeping generalization is as bad as saying all Muslims are terrorists.
well ALL MUS SLIMES ARE TERRORISTS. there is no question. and mst other people other thanbond slave Christians will also be when they start to take over-- that or die. anyone truly converted wiil read bible and see the "church" errors & fl
Well, I'm sure somethgblue and I can agree on one thing here...
Not all churches are cons just as not all cops are bad but we live in a society where money rules and when the pickings are easy ethics and morals go down the drain. It is mostly due to education and breakdown of the American family, follow the money
Yes, I can agree with that. While I have cops in my family, I see (just like preachers) the power go to the heads of those who hold it and a steady decline happens over time. Sad but true.
I'm sure we agree on many topics but it is difficult to relay info in short comments, so one generalizes, which can ruffle feathers. I keep an open mind on all subjects but base knowledge on experience in the hopes of creating wisdom.
I know how it works and believe me-I can disagree with someone today and be totally in your corner tomorrow. I suppose that's part of being grown up. No time for grudges here.
Saying that all muslims are slime and terrorists, is like saying all Christians are hypocrites. Its a false statement and, while on the topic of Christianity, a very UN-Christian like thing to say. Judge Not.
wakerra-- it is not un Christian. you need to read what the satanic koran commands of ALL muslims. as a Christian is to follow the bible a muslim is to follow the evil koran. ALL muslims are to kill ALL non muslimes. or they They will be killed.
That is not to say all Muslims follow this belief, and I believe that particular "translation" was corrupted. I have had the opportunity to meet with and speak to Muslim people, they are not slime, nor were they feeling the need to kill me
are we supposed to be impressed with your nastiness? its Not something we should see in the Christian section
you are so correct
Jesus May have meant that everyone was a natural conduit to God/you dont need God or Jesus or a church/to gain an audience with God/all you need is your own desire to enrichment/a want to better yourself/to become the one GOD knew you could become
RNMSN, you are correct, I do not need a church. However, some sinners need a physical crutch in order to gain such an audience. They desire a hallowed portal to the enrichment. Without the physical many sinners are lost in the bellows of immoral.
Rnmsn--- you do not need a church but you DO NEED JESUS to get to God.
1 Tim 2:5-7 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
So they need 126 hospitals in the town?
Library's, schools, orphanages pretty much anything is a better use of space.
I'm assuming the town has those. Those are all taxpayer funded though, a church is not. I think I get your angle and what you're trying to say, but churches provide much relief you can't find elsewhere.
jr-- and the vast majority provide a lot of false teachings you cant get anywhere else too. there are too many of those little kingdoms everywhere.
These "churches" want to relieve you of the money in your wallet after they preach the traditions of man from the pulpit.
Why does it seem everyone keeps assuming every church is an evil, greedy organization? It can be said of some but not all. What should we do, sit at home and read our Bible alone? Not serve? Not give our time? Not fellowship?
John, I think some of the issue is the buildings. If people chose to meet in conference rooms, fields with tents, or other similar type locations could you imagine how much more money could go to serving the community and helping those in need?
My church initially met in a movie theater but a building was donated by a member (the owner of Sweetwater Sound). We have addiction counseling, orphanage in Mexico, prostitute rescue and free dentistry to Kurds in Iraq. Many are the same and own
That's great but not the norm. On average 4000 churches open in the usa each year. That's 80 per state!! 7000 close each year, and statistically their buildings do not get reused as churches. This equals wasted money.
It's certainly ridiculous. Some criticize churches in general, which is not fair. While I don't agree w/ all the churches popping up, it's not taxpayer dollars. If people want to pay for a new church it's their money to spend as they see fit.
social programs are good but the purpose of the church is to Promote and extend the Kingdom of God not a local "church" and unfortunately that is what most do.
