Faith Moments Today May
Your Online Monthly Devotional
Springtime is my favorite time of year. I love how it's full of new surprises ready to burst forth day after day.
May has always held a special place in my heart for several reasons. There is so much going on during this month besides the flowering and gardening preparations.
This is an action packed month with activities like the beginning of baseball games, spring prom socials, weddings and family gatherings for weekend barbecues. It's a time we set aside to celebrate and pay tribute to mothers and honor our soldiers.
With so much bidding for our attention, it's easy to cut back on our devotional time. Let us not fall prey to the things that divide our time, by breaking fellowship with the Lord. It's family month ... make sure to spend some time with your Heavenly Father.
Our study in our Faith Moments Today® Devotional will bring us into this course of study:
Week 1: Fear Not.
Week 2: Provision for Mom.
Week 3: Mediocrity
Week 4: On This Day, Pray.
Bookmark this site so that you will come back each week and follow along with the lessons to help you grow in your faith.

Poll: Overwhelmed by Fear
Have you ever been overwhelmed by fear?
Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real
Scripture Reading: I John 4:15-18
Many people today are consumed by fear. Fear is a weapon that satan uses to try to destroy us. It keeps people in bondage to depression, obsession, drugs, alcohol, and even turmoil in their home life.
Fear is a powerful force that paralyzes and keeps people from moving forward to receive deliverance, success, peace, sobriety, and clear thinking. Let's be honest with ourselves, what positive, beneficial thing has ever come from fear?
Job said,"For the thing which I greatly fear comes upon me, and that of which I am afraid befalls me." (Job 3:25)
In other words, the more we meditate on the fears that come against us, the greater the chance we have that the things we fear will become a reality. Since that is the case, we need to do something and right away! What can we do? Take a healthy dose of FAITH! The devil will continue to try to keep fear foremost in our minds, but we can defeat that by what we choose to think and meditate on. Through the powerful force of faith and the Word of God that we can speak, we will overcome these attacks.
Just as fear is a force that draws our thoughts to things of past downfalls and a hopeless future, faith is the force of action that draws the Will of God into our life. In order for fearful thinking to be broken, our thinking must be renewed. We must begin to refuse satan's fears and choose to have faith in God's Word.
Begin to believe God today for good things to happen. Speak faith filled words. Faith and fear cannot occupy the same space. Get yourself over into the perfect love that casts out all fear! Choose FAITH!
"... perfect love casteth out all fear" (I John 4:18)

A Tribute to Moms
A Tribute to Mom - One Heartbeat At A Time sung by Steven Curtis Chapman
"To the chosen lady and her children,
whom I love in truth, and not only I,
but also all those who have known
the truth, because of the truth
which abides in us and
will be with us forever."

Have you made provision for your Mom today?
Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:12
Today is Mother's Day. Have you made any special plans? Have you sent a card, or flowers? Have you made a phone call to your Mom that would lift her spirits? As children, we have a responsibility to honor and care for our mothers. I can never write about parents without including Exodus 20:12, "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." All too often, "children" get over into their own lives so much that they don't think about the needs of their moms. Mom is an after-thought because, "I have my own life to live."
Even on the cross, Jesus made certain that His earthly mother, would be taken care of after He went to be with the Father. In John 19:27 Jesus said to His disciple John, "Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home." Mary was taken into the house of John as his mother. She was taken into a place of provision and respect.
Sons and daughters, I challenge you today to do more than just send a card and flowers, make a phone call or take mom out to dinner. How about making some special plans. Plans to make provision for mom. To see to it that she is happy, well, comfortable, respected, and above all else, loved.
A mother is a gift from God. Let's cherish that gift and be a blessing to them.
"Her children arise up and call her blessed." (Proverbs 31:28)

Mediocrity is only making it halfway up the mountain.
Scripture Reading: Joshua 14:6-14
No one ever achieves success by thinking and doing things in a mediocre way. Take Caleb for an example.
At eighty-five years old, you would think that the boy would be looking for the green pastures and the ease of farming the fertile, flat, bottom-land. Instead, he asks Joshua for the hilly, mountainous country of Hebron for his inheritance. Not only that, but before he could settle there he had to drive out the inhabitants first. Caleb was definitely not a mediocre thinker or doer, was he? He was a man blessed with strength and success because as Joshua 14:14 says, "he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel."
You and I don't have to settle for mediocrity in our lives. We don't have to look at the limitations of our own abilities and think, "we'll never make it". We can draw on the power of God to see to it that we are successful. Philippians 4:13 tells us that, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Romans 8:37 gives us the confidence that, "We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."
Mediocrity is a thing of the past. The only things ahead for us are success and victory through Jesus Christ our Lord!
"I am this day fourscore and five years old (85). Now therefore, give me this mountain." (Joshua 14:10,12)

God in Sacrifice
"Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 KJV
On this Day, Pray.
Scripture Reading: Psalm 91
For many years, during times of war, the 91st Psalm has been called the "Soldier's Psalm". It has brought comfort to those in danger and to those who waited at home for the safe return of their soldier.
On this Memorial Day, America again has men and women serving their country and facing danger every day. Terrorists have declared war on America and brought the fight to our own soil. In response our nation has sent the willing into the unknown to root out and bring to justice, those that are responsible.
Just as our forefathers fought for freedom for this country and the world, so do our modern day soldiers. The battleground is different but the enemy (evil) is the same.
Today as we remember soldiers of past wars, let us pray for the soldiers of the present war. As they do their job each day, pray that they come to a realization of who Jesus Christ really is and that they will accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Pray for their safe and swift return to their families and this great nation of ours.
Thank you Heavenly Father for our freedom, and thank you for our PEACE through Jesus Christ our Lord!
"A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you." (Psalm 91:7)

One Gave for All
Our Freedom Began and Ends with Jesus - We have freedom because God wanted a family.
There is no true freedom without Christ. He layed down His life willingly, so that all mankind could be free from the bondage of this world. You can be free of sin and eternal death, because of what Jesus did for you on the cross of Calvary. The cross of Jesus made it possible for us to be reconciled to God, reuniting His family forever in Eternity with Him. It's true some gave all, but Only One Gave for All. Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish (in Hell for eternity) but will have everlasting life.
(in Heaven with Him)" John 3:16 (emphasis mine)

Memorial to a Soldier
Scripture Reading: Acts 10:1-2
Standing by the graveside, it was a cold and windy day in April. Family and a few friends gathered to say their final good-byes to a loved one who had served us well. In her long life, this woman daily ministered to others and put her needs second. She was a real soldier in overcoming the tragedies in her own life. Yet she never talked about her battles.
She never married, never owned a home or drove a car. Few people told her they loved her. Her requests were few, but those of peace for her country. Her name, Anna.
As we celebrate Memorial Day this year and show appreciation for those who have served us in war, let's take a moment to be thankful for those who served here on the home front. There are soldiers in life who never go to battle, but battle in prayer for those who do. On Memorial Day I will remember those who have served for my freedom and prayed for it as well, so that we might live a godly and peaceable life among all men. God bless the faithful.
