   If Apologetics is about spreading God's truth as we know it as Christians then why is it necessary?
   
   Isn't t that what Christian witnessing is all about? Is this another cult hiding behind the word Christianity?

   No, apologetics is not spreading the Word, it's the defending of the Christian Religion. Now because the Christian Religion is so weak it always needs defending.
   
   Definition from a dictionary: Apologetics; the branch of theology charged with the defence of Christianity.
   
   Dictionaries are devised by secular people so they do not understand what the difference is between Christianity and the Christian Religion, so they think that Christianity is the Christian Religion, when it's not. They are two very different things.
   
   How do we know this? Easy, True Christianity doesn't need defending, any more than The Lord needed defending when He walked on this earth, for the angels were always there to defend Him, until it was time for Him to lay down His life.
   
   I do not defend Christianity because Christianity stands, the Word of God stands, The Lord's Church stands and the gates of hell will not prevail against it - it's powerful.
   
   Real Christianity is powerful too and it always attacks, it never defends.

   yes2truth, I do not believe as a Christian I need to defend Christianity either, that is, defend the Bible which Is the Word of God, The Trinity and the different reasons for each existence but I do believe in witnessing and giving my testimony. I will gladly back up my beliefs with scripture if I am asked to, that is common courtesy and good witnessing!. I understand part of what you said but I do not believe  "Real Christianity is powerful too and it always attacks, it never defends."       Real Christianity is about Love, 1 Corinthians 13 "1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.
   
   4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

   Christian apologists use apologetics to defend the faith from a Biblical standpoint. It has nothing to do with spreading the Gospel. They are mutually exclusive.

   Good question.  I find myself burdened with apologetics quite often.  John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God."  It goes on to say "the Word became flesh [Jesus] and dwelt among us." in verse 14.
   
   The Adversary, the Devil is here to twist or "coil" (like the Serpent he is) the Word of God to the detriment of God's creation.  Because the Word is the life in Christ Jesus, if it gets misinterpreted or twisted, depending on the subject matter, it could mean death without Christ Jesus.
   
   Apologetics is the calling to "make straight this crookedness" by "rightly dividing" the Word of truth.  Jesus said in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."  The Devil is the father of lies (John 8:44), which is the opposite of the Truth.
   
   Acts 13:10 "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the Devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?"
   
   2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth."
   
   The Truth sets us free, and Jesus wants all of us to be set free from the lies and enter into the Truth.  John 8:36 "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
   
   I will keep on studying to rightly divide the Word of Truth, so people will know it and be set free!

   you have to know that Christianity is the strongest of all religions, and apologizing is not spreading of the word, but asking forgiveness of your sins, and Buddha or Zeus or any other false gods wont get you 2 feet off the ground when jesus comes back, because i know my lord and savior will get me to heaven, but buddha wont. he is just a golden idol, and most of the worlds population is bowing to that......a freaking gold idol, i would rather have my eyes put out, and my toungue cut from my mouth before bowing to a golden image, and you might not agree with me, and you dont have to agree with me, but i know that i will be right, and Jesus Christ is the son of God, he is seated and the right hand of God, and you need to know something........God sent his only begotten son, to DIE on calvary, and he endured worse than you can imagine...... and i can prove it....... a wise man once said "Know Thyself"..... do you know yourself? are you willing to stand with god, through hell on earth, throughout good and bad, happiness and misery....you need to kneel at a altar, and this is optional but i am asking you to go somwhere and kneel, bacause you cant ask a question out on Hubpages and get a 100% true answer, if you wish to know the answer to your question..... then just pray about it.. because god is everlasting, he knows everything, he knew you before you were born, and he gave you his only sons life, that is a big sacrifice, and i am thankful......are you?
