I would say it is entirely possible. My dad died 3 years ago and about 6 weeks prior he gave me a cheque for my son's birthday. He always left birthdays to my mum and he made me promise that I would cash it now. He knew we were planning a legoland trip for my sons birthday.... he died after a massive stroke 5 days before my sons birthday.
A few months back my mum died. 10 months previous to that I sensed (as I am a Christian I would say the Holy Spirit led me) that this would be the year I would have to say goodbye. I took that to mean mum and although at that time there was no illness for me to justify my thinking.. I chose to act on my feelings. I never told mum what I felt but I altered my schedule to make sure I spent time with her, even if it was watching tv and having a cuppa. A few weeks before she died she took ill and I "sensed" I had to get to her quickly. I acted and was able to help and get medical help and we had lovely precious times in the last weeks.
So I would say yes it is possible for someone to know that their time (or someone else's time) is limited.
Doctor M.L.King, Jr. had just finished his "mountain top prophecy" speech at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ when he was killed, that suggests we can know we are going to discarnate. We all died when we followed the tradition of civilization by using the many "judgmental adjectives" which prevent our seeing the 360 degrees surrounding every thing and subject matter.
I was told when I was 17 that I would be rich before 29 and dead after 39. That was a double prophecy. Before the age of 29 I was spiritually conceived for the richness of understanding the purpose of life while Elijah A. Alexander, III, a pro Football player, was rich before he turned 29. In 1984 I became "dead to the world" because I no longer considered money nor any other man-made things a need to living and Elijah III discarnated March 2010, months before turning 40 and made him to be one of my previous incarnations. So, Yes! man can know when they are going to die as well as discarnate.
I guess they know if they are about to die... i don't know if it's just a coincident but I just want to share this. last 2012, I was to travel to Saudi to work there and the day before during my travel, my grandfather asked me if how long will I be staying there and I said 2 years and he right away told me that I may not see him anymore because he'll be going to die. Then, the second incident is my father, he promised that he'll be staying until my youngest brother will graduate in college. A week after his graduation, my father died. So for me the person who is about to die knows that he'll be dying. I remember 1 priest celebrated a Eucharistic Celebration and during his homily he mentioned that if someone did something unusual that 1 day, he might die or he has already a call to die. Example, if that person is so mean to you everyday and suddenly 1 day he is so quiet he might have a problem deep within him that may lead to his end.
In August of 2016, my brother told me that he was going to die soon. He was having chest pains, but he refused to go to the doctor about it. He died February 21, 2017.
In the 1960s, one of my aunts (who was sixteen) told individual members of her family that she was going to die soon. She said that she had a vision, and that she knew that she was going to die. She told her mom (my grandmother) and a few of her siblings good-bye. She later drowned in a boating accident.
Yes, Laura, My Son told me he wasn't going to be hear very much longer & 1 week later he died. He was 35 & had a pulmonary embolism, caused by DVT. Never drank or did drugs & was a marathon walker. Had bad leg veins from walking.
I don't think they do unless they are suffering from a chronic disease with unknown adverse outcomes.
As a doctor taking care of critically ill patients, some of them unfortunately having very guarded prognosis with respect to survival it is hard to say that a person who is otherwise healthy will have a premonition of his sudden death; because even in the seriously ill predicting death and disability always has the element of doubt despite of having so many scoring systems to try to achieve some sort of objectivity to the whole process.
I beg to differ Dr. Ashish because my Son, 35, had a premonition of his death 2 yrs before. He was a non smoker, non drinker, didn't do drugs of any kind & was a marathon walker. He died of a pulmonary embolism but thought he had a cold.
Yes, and not only that, but I think that they have the power to "switch off" the closer they get to death. They ultimately make the call to shut down. I've seen it happen twice, once directly and once indirectly, and they just chose their time to go, and they went. Of course, they were in hospital beds surrounded by their family and had said their goodbyes already. These were not instantaneous deaths. In that case, I don't know how that works, but I know that those who are dying "peacefully" definitely have that ability.
I told my Son, who passed away in December, 10 days before Christmas, that "If anything happens to you I won't be coming here again" (to the shore). He died at 35 from a PE caused by DVT (clot in lung) and I was never there since that day in 2011
Yes, I've had a family member say to multiple people he had to get things in order for his daughter and then died a few months later.
I believe that if you are in touch with your soul you feel the sense of urgency to suddenly get things done or your time is running out. Older people time their departure often, asking to see last family members or loved ones before they go.
I most definitely believe some people are aware when they are nearing death. Not as an impending doom, but rather a slow release to the inevitable at the end of a long illness or life journey.
Having worked in healthcare for many years with various age populations, I witnessed many who shared they felt the end was near. Often after such a statement I would come in the next day to hear the news of their passing.
In my own health journey I come across many close to death and I too come close on occasion myself. One day while on a gurney awaiting the removal of a IJ catheter, I met a little girl. She was eleven years old, and had a grayish tint to her skin.
She was on a gurney next to me. When her mom stepped away to confer with the Doctor she said to me, "I am go to die." I looked back at her and said, I know sweetie." She shared with me how she could not tell her mom. She said it would make her sad. I told her, "she loves you very much and she will be okay." She passed away two weeks later. I feel blessed she could share her heart with me.
Death is a beautiful thing when the person has this feeling of peace and a knowing of when they are going. It is quite hard on those left behind.
Yes, some people even know the month & date of their death.
Have never come into contact with anyone who knows they are about to die. But i read this insightful page all about the science of death and it cleared a lot of misconceptions I had. https://goo.gl/CCpQpG
I think in the subconscious most are aware of their life ending however most do not hear the inner voice within, You friend however did and probably was a we balanced person. Thanks for the very interesting story and question.
There are some symbols mentioned in religious books and scriptures which provide indication of symbols that start to visible to the person and their relatives before the actual death. I am giving here a link that give symbols that may be seen in dreams and predict about death.

I've read about many different theories about death and what happens. It is the main question that is in the back of everyone's mind. It's very difficult to picture it or to question the point of existence. The fact that we are here is a miracle in itself, who says that some sort of afterlife isn't...

For the very many years I was in Church attendance, the Kingdom of God was always equated with Heaven. It was a future event that only those who believed in Jesus would see either when they died or were raptured, whilst the remainder of humanity would go to hell. A Christian could be disqualified...

I was watching a documentary the other day where a guy believes that the only reason people or anything dies is because...THEY ACCEPT DEATH AND BELIEVE IN IT! Therefore, he thinks that by not believing in death, and calling it a superstition that he'll miraculously live forever. I think this...

Michael Jackson it appeared made a speech and released things near his death that he never did before, did he have a feeling that he was going to die?, was someone threatening him?, was he murdered? and is he worth more since his death than when he was alive?

I know that kind of falls outside the Christians versus atheists ongoing theme of the religion section here, but I thought I'd just offer it up as a bit of reality. This is what I believe: Life is hard and then you die. You can either be kind to others and try to alleviate suffering while you're...
