    what do you think the point of life is?

    some people base it on religions, others base it on evolution and some don't have a view at all

    This is a huge question.
    With no answer.
    As much as we try to rationalise, religify [if thats a word] or question.. we as humans will NEVER know. I think we can learn alot about life and evolution from nature.. smile

    There is no point to life except what you make of it.  You're here, deal with it.

    I'm sure if there is some reason it will work itself out.  The universe is a very big place but it exists and we are here.  I'm more than certain things are doing exactly what they are supposed to do.

    And after being brainwashed into religion as a child (that's child abuse for sure) I've educated myself and am now a devout atheist.  I admire the Buddhist ideas but do not consider myself a Buddhist.  The idea of re-birth has no logic to it, nor evidence in science.

    Just live in the now and try to be a nice person.

    Who said there had to be a point?

    In my not-so-humble opinion (rather haughty, I am) life is all about living, and to do so without a point of reference.

    Of course, without a point of reference, how do we know we're alive?  Or even what being alive is?

    Well, we don't.  You probably know some people who are moving and breathing and have a pulse that are dead "inside."  I know plenty of people who no longer have a pulse (or in some cases a body) that are definitely alive in our minds and in history.

    So, and this is only if you choose to believe in it, the point of life is whatever you decide to make it.  It's a paradox, considering if you choose not to make it anything you still have made a choice (and a choice about the point of life, which exists for only as long as you recognize it.)  "If you choose not to to decide you still have made a choice" type of thing.

    So why spend time figuring out what life really is and forget to discover what you want to do with it?  Regardless of its definitions, you still have this one life, and you still have to do something (or nothing) with it.

    To quote Steve Martin, who was absolutely brilliant when he wrote this piece:

    Be courteous, kind, and forgiving;
    Be gentle and peaceful each day;
    Be warm and human and grateful;
    And have a good thing to say.

    Be thoughtful and trustful and child-like;
    Be witty and happy and wise;
    Be honest and love all your neighbors;
    Be obsequious, purple, and claivoyant.

    Be pompous obese and eat cactus,
    Be dull and boring and omnipresent.
    Criticize things you don't know about,
    be oblong and have your knees removed.

    Be tasteless rude and offensive,
    Live in a swamp and be three dimensional.
    Put a live chicken in your under underwear,
    Get all excited and go to a yawning festival.
    alternative last line "Go into a closet and suck eggs"

    Now while this took a serious turn to the silly, it's a very important turn to the silly. The whole song says what life and our roles are, but most of all, have a sense of humor, appreciate the absurd, and enjoy being different from everyone else.

    It really is that simple.

    Why do some people make more of this question than there needs to be ?

    Over think it or try to come up with some sort of devine purpose for us all as if we were anything special in the grand scheme of things....

    Human beings are merely one animal species on the face of this planet.  A highly successful one, by some standards or the potential cause of a worldwide disaster in the minds of others, take your pick.

    However, as animals the whole point of life is to survive long enough to procreate, something else the Human animal seems to be good at but there again if it wasn't so much fun we wouldn't do it, or perhaps not as often.

    So for those who seek a higher purpose to our being, stop beating yourselves up and get on and enjoy life as nature intended.

    For those who think life is merely a period of preparation for the next life Good Luck with that.... Come back and let us know how it goes.....

    As I said earlier, Don't over think the issue, it's not worth the effort since none of us will survive in the long term !

    Life is the point of life, you're living, and you'd "doing it."  Be kind to others, you are your brother's keeper.

    I think the point of life is to be a good person, help those you can and stay a good person no matter what happens. Difficult life situations sow bitterness and long-lasting bitterness sows evil. Therefore, the point of life (according to my humble opinion) is to keep a pure heart because all comes from the heart including death and life.

    My personal opinion is to treat life as a school in that we should learn from our mistakes to become spiritually refined people.  The more spiritually refined we are, the closer we can get to God.  I believe the end goal is to be reunited with God.

    Solomon said:  Eat drink and be merry.  I think this sums it all up quite well.  Especially  if one believes that he was the wisest that ever  lived.

    But then, he was terribly wealthy, a king, had a thousand wives, what else could he do?
