   Here on Earth you are supposed to find "the ticket office", where you have to get a "ticket" to the next level.
   However the catch is that you can't buy the ticket for money.
   You can only get a ticket by doing good!
   
   Some call the next level for Heaven. Other use words as Nirvana and Karma. However, it is really all the same.

   Your question, Why am I here? can only be answered by YOU.  The wisest folks who have ever lived teach that you can learn the answer to this question by becoming relaxed and very quiet and listen for that still small voice from within.  You are a divine being and your highest wisdom and power has the answer and will give it to you when you ask and become relaxed and quiet and simply listen until you hear the answer, 
   
   In the mean time simply love God, your highest wisdom and power within you, and love everyone you come into contact with from this time forward.
   Often say, "I bless this situation with love", whatever the situation may be.
   
   Also, say frequently, "Life is Good!" and smile as often as you can.  Simply be grateful, constantly, for being a child of God (Psalms 82:6).

   For atheists- We are here to live out our lives. We are here to make a difference in the world, or a difference in someone's life. Our purpose is to thrive and be the best that we can.
   For Christians- We are here to live out God's Word. We are his creation and our time on Earth is to choose whether to follow God or not. He does not force us to do this. He gave us a choice.

    When the earth human history was young, people were told that if there were more of their group then many things would be better, food gathering, security, housing and several other items. The work was geared to maintain the survival of the local community. That work was meaningful and useful. The purpose of those lives was to allow for the growth of the population by creating and protecting till adulthood more people.
    With nearly 7 billion people now on this planet it would seem the mission of the early humans has been realized. The main credible threat to the extinction of the human race is from space somewhere. Now, are 7 billion people here enough?
    The initial purpose of a life on earth was to create more lives on earth. In the process as a secondary purpose: to educate and protect those new lives in the ways of the current world and get them to adulthood, where they could do the cycle again.
    Again, are 7 billion people enough?
    The second part of your question is specific to you, "What am I supposed to do here?"
    If you accept the premise that there is a God, then accept the premise that it is an energy being, then only by creating more humans with souls [the energy of men kind] will you do what the supreme being needs for you to do.
    All other activities are earth based and only will build or destroy life on earth. That portion of your behavior is under your control. Choose wisely.
    If you do not accept that there is any supreme being, then you will be still left with the existence here on the third rock from a Sun. You can do anything you want until the society of humans stops you, you stop yourself, or you run out of time. Choose wisely!

    You are supposed to worship GOD. Living for other is life dear.  Look to animals they are also on earth. They sleep and they are hunting their food. If we are doing like them  then there is nothing differ between human and animals. Humans are most valuable creature of GOD on Earth to Worship the GOD.

    Good deeds and the bad works are only reasons we are here. In all ours life we do things some of them are good and some of them are bad,like if you are walking across street and a little girl comes to you asking for some money  for her eating or a blind person standing there,  if you are not super busy then you are surely going to help them without any other thought in your mind, leads to good deeds.And other situation  you are in a party suddenly a waiter  drops  some liquor on you  accidentally or by lack of his concentration for at least  once you will be on your temper and temper leads to bad works maximum times.And  if you say do it for good deeds all the time so i don't think it will be easy,it is so now look on your past there are bad things you must have done  and i m sure you  haven't those by your own will at that time

    Well, I might not be right. But, I believe that while we are on the earth, we should ensure that we make our best efforts to lead a life according to how God wants us to do. We should try and help each other in the best possible way.     I loved what Jarn said, it has the purpose which you give to it.
    Still let me give you historical insight for this question, since I'm an Hindu and Indian and supposing you also have few knowledge of philosophical past of the nation, I'll start with Saying this question was and is a central point of discussion and disagreement among religious sects and philosophies since ancient times.
    Rigveda says, Desire is the root cause of everything. So may be this is the purpose of life, to live for pleasure. This was Charvaka view, hedonistic. Then Samkhya had theory that lige is full of suffering so to avoide such suffring is the purpose of life. Then why do we exist? Buddha etc reshaped this idea and demonized desire itself.
    Other conceptualized the idea of heaven or better birth, hence to them the purpose of live was to achieve such realm by various means.
    We might never know why we exist, but as long as we do ecist its purpose is clear, dukh ghan sukh vriddhi, reduction in suffering and increasing pleasure.

    To answer your valuable question , we can go back in time to review what God told Adam after creating him and Eve.
    The Answer is written in the bible.
    
    Ge 1:28 Further, God blessed them, and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.”
    What did he tell Noah after the flood and they exited the Arch.
    Ge 9:1 God went on to bless Noah and his sons and to say to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth.
    Three times he repeated his purpose for humans .
    He blessed them , meaning he wanted them to be happy and make the earth a happy home.
    How long, for eternity was the plan,
    But there was a small interruption,  A spirit Angelic Son turned rebel, entertain the idea of being worshipped.  He started with Adam and Eve, they listen to him and joined satan. Only to cut their life short. Since children had not been birthed yet they inherited the sentence of death genetically. All children from Adam and Eve die , even if you have good health, you can die.
    But God Almighty worked a plan out for us, we can still receive what they lost.
    We will still multiply fill the earth and be blessed .
    We are coming to the conclusion of humans being tested by satan , and accusations that we do not need
    His sovereignty.
    We have tasted the world without it, satan has made sure of that.
    But we are about to go through a transition of Jesus rulership. You can learn more about how to be a future citizen by accurate knowledge through your bible.

    So to answer your question your puropse was to live on the earth have in subjection plants and animals,
    Beautifying the earth global, and being fruitful filling the earth with happy humans.
    This will soon be a reality.

    Your supposed to do..... Whatever your heart want you to do. Life only fits into a boring routine if you let it. You must realize that, when compared to the 14 billion year old universe, our 90 year life span is so short.
    
    Live life the way you want to live it, and fulfill your dreams, no matter how wild they may seem. You want to summit Mount Everest? Book a flight to Nepal tomorrow afternoon. Ever dreamed of walking across the country? Start packing your bags. Like monkeys? Why not buy one?
    
    When the day comes that you must finally die, make sure that you have no regrets or unfulfilled wishes on that day.

    The question 'Why are we here?' can be answered in two steps:
    1) First of all we will have to know as to whether there is any God or not;
    2) If we can somehow come to know that there is a God, then we can further ask the question as to why he created the universe. When we will have the answer to this question, we will also come to know as to why the universe exists, why we exist, why we are here.

    Religious or not we can all strive in some small way to leave the earth a better place and pass on the knowledge of a lifetime to the next generation. Of course we also need to find personal fulfilment in enjoyment of  our own individual existence and build on our skills to become productive members of society. Everyone needs some meaning to their life even if they can't figure out what the meaning of life actually is!.

    Every creature on this planet has a purpose of its existence. We all play our parts even if don't recognize it and I am not saying this on spiritual level. We are part of the whole Life equation of this planet earth. All the species balance each other out. That is a different thing that we are disturbing this balance.
    Basically we are nothing special. We are part of an evolution. We just got more brains than others. And that leads to more and more questions. Basically if it hadn't been us humans, it would have been some other species on our place. And in future once humans are gone, there will be someone else. And as far as waking up everyday, going to work and then sleep, we humans have created this system to bring a organized structure to our lives. Its just a way to live, to do something as long as you are living. And if you are not satisfied with your current lifestyle, there are lots of other things to do in life.
