I do believe that God put each and every one of us on Earth for a reason. God has a purpose for you. Just do a little soul searching and let God show you the way. smile I would try reading the Bible for some good insight.

Maybe there is no answer, no reason, no purpose. Maybe it's not a game of Jenga or cards where the luck of the draw was determined by our karma, our faith, our thoughts, our actions or our past lives.
Why does there have to be a purpose, a mystery that eludes us and no one really has the true answer but only when we're gone from this physical world.
It may just be all living beings that have evolved to a higher consciousness when we're really STILL just all about that SURVIVAL instinct inside of all of us that continues living and by living that's really all there is to being, to us beings, towards no purpose at all. Surprise!

Human Beings are said to be souls dwelled in blood n flesh by the Al-Mighty
and send on earth to "Learn the basics of the existence of the Negative AND Positive energies and to pass the test of choosing the positive which would enable the soul to return baCK to GOD".
Every individual is provided with different tests and lessons every next moment in a life.
It is upon us to realize and learn stuff through different situations we experience in our lives.
It is upon us to realize the importance of this opportunity given to us to feel beautiful, stay happy, spread happiness and win over all the challenges(problems) to make this life successful and go back at the end to God with the feeling that you justified the opportunity to its full.

I keep learning new answers to this question. The most recent makes the most sense to me, now, because it seems to encompass everything I've experienced in this life.

So, why are we here on Earth? My latest answer is that,

*** We are to become like God ***

God is love. So, we need to love each other. God is infinitely generous; after all, He created the universe. So, we need to be abundantly loving and generous. God is fearless and confident. He is also humble. He only shows Himself to those who seek Him; He has no ego to serve. So, we need to receive in such a way that it is not for our own pleasure (selfishness, Ego), but for that of the Heavenly Father.

Since God created all, He is responsible for all. So, we need to take responsibility for the actions and desires of all others. And we start by changing our inner attitudes and desires.

I discovered this new viewpoint after watching an online video that connected with me on several levels:

Over 3,000 years ago, a Kabbalist wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. Embedded within it is a secret wisdom that has remained hidden for that entire period of time from all but a few. Only recently has this hidden wisdom been made available to the general public.

Even Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth said these things and had wisdom hidden from the masses, because they were not yet ready for it.

We are spiritual beings, currently separated from each other by Ego. For several years, I fought against Ego. But now I've learned that we can use Ego to accomplish our oneness with God. We simply need to change each part of Ego -- to correct it. Kabbalah shows the way.

The consumption of modern society has been designed not to be fulfilling. This creates a burning spiritual need that many already feel. Kabbalah shows the path embedded in the Bible that helps us to correct the 125 levels of the Will to Receive (Ego) and to convert them into the Will to Bestow (Soul or Spirit).

Even my Miracle on Wilshire Boulevard in 1977 comes into sharp focus with these ideas. I now understand more completely what has been happening in my life. Many of the illusions have been lifted.

Well, you are supposed to live your life...be a responsible, loving citizen, explore the Universe, find and understand love, enjoy your friends and think big. You are also expected to realize that life isn't always fun, you may fall flat on your face, people may hate you, you may hate yourself, someone close to you may die and you may even be ugly.  So, if anything listed above is possible -- when should you give up? When should you fight and carry on? Need a bit more guidance? If all were great in my life, I'd keep fighting forever.

Hi there, every answer can only ever be an interpretation so explore and discover as much as you can til you find what you believe your purpose is. I like to believe we are just the latest stage of evolution. So to let the next evolutionary stage begin, I shall physically and mentally strengthen myself to pass onto my next generation and to continue on.
    Good luck!

interesting question and answers.  In short.  Follow your highest joy. Listen to your inner being - Intuition - it leads you moment by moment where you need to be. Ever heard anybody say 'My intuition was wrong?' The Early Christians believed this is the portal to your spirit.   Why are so many people miserable and as one respondent said 'leading quiet desperate lives?' Because they listen only to their minds.  You must connect to your inner being - then your life purpose will unfold naturally.

That's a very typical question that a lot of people share.

What I can say is that you neef find a purpose. it isn't hard either to find one. They are everywhere. I had a nice office job that was boring and I wasted my day sitting in my office going only invoices and paying bills but I knew I wasn't satisfied. I began to feel trapped and hopeless.

So I decided to do a risky move and quit that job to pursue a passion of mine. Even through I am making less money now I don't feel trapped anymore. I feel almost free and I'm happy to go to work in the morning.

Even by changing your routine just a bit can change your thinking. Take your signficient other out to a new dinner, meet up with friends and try to do something out of the box, plan a vacation, volunteer at a local homeless shelter or SPCA. If you have children or nephews and neices teach them about life. Take them to the parl and talk about the different types of plants and bugs.

You just need to break up your routine and spice up your life a little but remember you are not alone in your thoughts. I think as children we had such high hopes for what our future holds that it falls flat when we realize all we do is work, pay bills, and sleep. And to make it worse, we lose so much of our income to taxes that it barely feels rewarding to put ourselves through the routine everyday.

In the end and this is always the hardest part is to appreciate what you have. Having food, a house, clothing, etc is a privilege not a right even through we all long to be free and do what we want we all have to face reality. Work is the major part of a adult's life just like school with children.

Even I had this doubt many months and days ago. Later got to know that my life is given as a gift my GOD (nature) where I can see the worlds beauty and I can smell the fresh air ( good and bad smell) I can hear the sounds of many things. I can express my thoughts by my words..i can walk what ever I want ... I can hold any thing by my hands.. This sense are very special and I am very happy to get such gift. Brain is the only thing which give us positive and negative thinking. We cannot be ideal for a long time ,Work makes our mind sharp.. if we would not work ,we all would be depressed ... so enjoy the work as well your life how much is possible...
I don't know how much I am correct but I am really thinking positive in my life and my life is looking very nice ...

"To be or not to be".. That is the question that has been asked since the beginning of time.  As human beings we are naturally curious as to our purpose in this life.  That is why we often go in pursuit of certain careers, life styles, adventures, etc... We are always thirsting for the answer and we are always searching. Sometimes conscientiously but most of the time sub-conscientiously.  It's the quest that leads most of us to great accomplishments and endeavors.  All things lead invariably to the next.  The blue print of our lives has already been drawn, the configuration of our footfalls that resound in echoes have already been mapped out.  This question is on everyone's lips at one time or another but for each individual it becomes  personalized, we claim it as our own as it should be.  The answer that you will discover, realize, etc.. will be your own.  No two lives are the same, no two paths aligned equally. Live your life to the best of your ability, do not harm, give honestly of yourself, and be true to yourself always.

We are here on earth, to live. We are here to experience, learn, and correct our ways in our lives. Life is considered a journey of learning, not only who you are as an individual, but others as well. We are here on earth to learn to live and love others, as well as to learn how to survive. Many challenges will arise in your life, which you will be tested. That is the time that you will either make the right choice, or make the wrong one, or perhaps even, make an undecided decision. We are here on earth to change our ways, as better individuals. Earth is a planet, in which, in my opinion, was created to be our home, and for us to protect it, as well. We are here to give earth, a life. We built on earth, we celebrate it (Earth Day), we eat on earth, we enjoy ourselves on earth, for instance, going to the park or beach. As much as earth gives us life, we give life to earth as well. In my opinion, what you are suppose to do on earth, it's really your own life decision. Your suppose to live your life, but the question is, "How do you want to live your life?" We are placed on earth to dream and have goals, and try to accomplish them. We are here on earth as a challenge to ourselves, to whether you will choose your (right) direction or (wrong) in life. We live through earth, and earth lives through us.You mentioned that everyday we wake up for work, go to sleep, pretty much that our life is a routine. Now think about this, "Are you happy were you are at in your life?" Now, consider that, that is one of your challenges of being here on earth. So, Let's say that your not happy where you stand in your life right now. Well, if we are placed on earth to live, then, you live. If your not happy in any way, go chase what will make you happy. We are placed on earth to live, love, laugh, learn, succeed, try, cry, eat, drink, think, to name a few. In other words, we are placed on earth to make and create ourselves as individuals. We are here on earth to make us, what makes us, and what would make us as people, is by living our lives. Earth is our planet, our home. We give some of us to earth and earth gives us back sustainability for us to live. We are here to discover. For instance, go out into the world. We are here to experience. For instance, your first love. We are here to learn. For instance, who we are as an individual to ourselves, and others. We are here to survive. For instance, mentally, physically, and emotionally. We are here to live...

This is a great question and also a great state of mind to be in. Many go entire lifetimes without ever asking themselves this question and go through the motions of their 5 senses thinking that is more important than their souls journey. From what I have gathered in studying ancient religions and history I have found this common theme amongst many religions. We are spiritual beings having a human experience to learn lessons for our soul. Which is why many religions teach of a savior who came down and showed their people how to overcome their lower man (animalistic nature) by using their higher man (spiritual nature). The best way to truly know your souls purpose here on this planet is to meditate and quiet all the 5 senses of your being so that it can hear from the inner you. Your true self. Those that have practiced this type of meditation usually find the answer they are looking for but with so much entertainment and distractions of our carnal man we never have time or the patience to quiet our carnal side to hear from the spiritual side. There is no cookie cutter answer to this because we all have different purposes as to why we are here. It is up to you to seek it within yourself and not up to a pastor, priest or political figure to tell you what to do with your life.

This question pops to me every time I sit and think about my existence. But then I guess I satisfy myself with one reply, I might not be born to change the world or rule the world. But I do have a family that depends on me emotionally. If you channelize yourself and prioritize your goals in life, I'm sure you are going to find out the reason for your existence. Take a piece of paper just think about what things you want to do for yourself, your family and society before you die. If you have finalized on a list of what to do, I'm sure you are going to get answers to all your questions. You will get a new goal to accomplish and that is going to define your existence.

As a Guru and an Evolutionary Pagan Pastor, my answer is this:

Every person is born with a single purpose, to know for sure as of what your purpose is, you must search deep inside your own soul. There you will find the answer you seek as to what your purpose is. Most of the time you can tell what your purpose is just by the kind of gift you possess, what you are most passionate about, and what seems to come naturally to you without have been taught how by someone else.

Short Answer- The answer lies within your own natural abilities!

You are here to live your life. How you choose to do that is up to you. You may choose to do nothing with your life, or choose to have a goal and work towards it. You may choose to live for yourself all the time, or you may choose to make a difference to other people's lives by helping them out in addition to living your own life. Ultimately, there is no specific reason you are here on Earth. You aren't born special, but you can make your life special by the things you choose to do. People generations from now may know your name and not forget it because of something you've done - like Einstein.

I have read many books on this subject and look it with probing spiritual eyes. Then combine it with my Christian belief, faith, psychological training and say this.  We are here to use our God given gifts to serve God.  In other words serve others and help those who come into our lives by the Grace of God in their journey through the life span. We are also on this earth to grow in spirit also known as evolution of the soul. I have read and been taught that on earth we are often faced with lessons.  If we learn them and correct our previous mistakes we move on from that lesson.  If we do not learn and repeat the same mistakes we have to face the same lesson again.  Lessons are usually hard times, like facing difficult situations.  For example if we commit adultery we will be tempted again with a new offer, could be some years later and we need to reject the offer to end that lesson.  When we learn that adultery will never lead to any good and reject any offers we can move on from that lesson.  Then we can move on to the next lesson.  One may be experiencing many lessons at any one given time in their life.  But the more they learn and move on, the higher level our spirit reaches in the evolution process.  I have been described by many who have read my astrological chart I am an old soul. This is described by those in the related fields to make me wise beyond my earthly years.

We are the tools for Evolution created and orchestrated by God or Nature. We see, hear, taste, smell, feel, read, interact, think and gather information and store them as knowledge. We then reproduce and pass on our genes to the next generation which includes our own experience gathered by us. Here our job ends. This job is done not only by us but being carried out by all living organisms and this knowledge gathered and transmitted is the main cause and effect of Evolution.
Once we have gained knowledge and passed it on to the next generation, our usefulness ceases to exist and our own body begins to disintegrate and we ultimately die.
In the mean time, to keep you engaged throughout the life and to not think about  the real purpose Social life, love, hate, job, money are created and these activities keep us engaged and makes our life interesting and engaging. While we are deeply immersed in these activities we unknowingly complete our real responsibility.
Even at the time of death people have an unsatisfied feeling because the responsibilities created by society never end but we never understand that the responsibility created by Nature is completely fulfilled.
Where it is going to end?
It will never end bit the process is recurring. May be the knowledge gathered and passed on by millions of humans might lead to the emergence of a super natural being. GOD himself could be that super natural being.
If you ask me I would say that we are born and living here with a real and great purpose of creating a GOD.
This has happened in past and Jesus, Mohamed, Buddha, Mahavir, Krishna are all super beings born with all the accumulated knowledge and they had the power to attract millions of people to follow them.

It can be tackled as a spiritual inquiry. Doing so would assume we have a "spirit" that is in some metaphysical way separate from our bodies and spirit. That would normally tie in with the idea of a higher power such as God or many of God's.
While its not exactly in opposition with the general spiritual argument around the question our existence there could be a scientific natural reason we do not fully understand yet. That organic molecules assembled in a perfect way under perfect conditions and continue to assemble and evolve into more perfect life forms. Living organisms we know from observation appear to have what is called a biological imperative to reproduce to further the ongoing evolution of life. Essentially it could be argued that we are here to reproduce to further the evolution of our species.
As for what are we to do while we are alive? Well I think we generally gain satisfaction from being part of a productive and cooperative society and raise and care for our children and others in our communities. Unfortunately as our population grows there is competition for finite resources to support the population and it is this competition that is the likely source for many of our conflicts. Some argue that our tendency towards warring is in fact part of the reason we exist. To fight to acquire resources needed for survival and protect our community from others.

But alas in the end we really do not know. Spirituality is usually based on a feeling or faith which is hard to quantify. Biology and science are very much works in progress and ideas and theories shift as we learn more.

Personally I have healthy doubts about both of the primary views. I have not "felt" a strong spiritual existence consistently and as for faith in a unseen higher power I have not felt or seen compelling evidence for that either. From the science and biological side there appears to be more convincing arguments but there is still lots to learn. Our ability to protect our communities could very well end them in terms of weaponry. And technological advances such as the use of fossil fuel energy are destroying our environment along with poor land use and unsustainable consumption of vital resources. That doesn't seem to me to be useful to the continuation of the species. In the end I'm afraid I can not answer so much as muse about the question. In the end I believe we should try to enjoy life, have children and try to be responsible to the planet and its people in its entirety.

We're here because we "can" be here. We were brought about by ourselves via the paradox that is "God"; the mind that persists both inside and outside of itself. God is everyone, everywhere, and everything. We're all unique expressions of the same manifestation we know to be "life". We're all One. We're all an infinite, balanced, and seemingly un-repeating recursion of ourselves. We're supposed to live until we die. Our birth is but a sun rise, and our death is but a sun set. We live, we die, and we come back again. Our childhood's spring, our young adulthood's summer, our senior years are the fall, and our years before death are winter. This existence is our unified dream brought to life, and death is our next slumber; a mere illusion that's shattered the moment in which we awaken to live again.

why are we on earth? it has troubled me too for a while. I feel looking at this question on an individual basis may not really provide a comprehensive answer. we need to give it a holistic approach. look at the world as a whole as it is with all the organisms and how they co-exist with each other. There must be a purpose for life. One day life was non existent, then suddenly it started and has been evolving ever since. It is not simple to predict how life will be like a billion years from now, but what is clear is we live the way we do, and do all the things we do so as to fulfill a certain purpose. Every organism has unique abilities that are meant to maintain a balance and promote co-existence in the ecological system and this is no co-incidence. Yet no single organism seems to live or survive for eternity. The true purpose of life as it is, can only be determined if we can accurately predict the state of the universe 5 billion years from now. It is the only way we shall be able to tell why people/organisms are born, grow, age out and eventually die off

As one with memory of reincarnation and knowledge of the Great Spirit of the Universe my role is to educate people into growing in spirit, if they are spiritual. That is the sole purpose of life. We are put through the fires of refinement and we have reincarnated seven times, this is the last one (Job 5:19).

God is not a man and nor should we use personal pronouns in application when speaking of it. It is the great spirit and it is everywhere and leading its own into a good place. It is now pouring out over its children (Ezekiel 39:29) to deliver them from the lies of religion.

The purpose we all have in life is to decide who is the real God and to pass up worship of idols and images that are against the spirit. Those who worship false gods are the ones suffering now,

Our purpose is to live happily on Earth, to take care of it, and to pass what we know to future generations, in the hopes they have better lives than ours.  There are several ways to go about this though...  The best method is to choose something you love AND something you're proficient at.  Know everything about it, master it, become possessed by it, make a living from it.  Use that to enrich the lives of others while enriching your community.  Maybe you can also meet a good gal (or guy for the ladies) who shares your passion, someone you can trust to sharpen yourself on, someone to start a family with, then have children to make the world a brighter place.

Do you believe that this life is the extent of our existence?
If that is the case, then you must figure out what will make you feel satisfied leaving this world. What's your Legacy?

If you believe in a life after death than it would be to some how achieve the highest state and be rewarded that eternal life.

I don't believe anything is just by chance. This life is too amazing to just waste and then end. Sure it's hard, but nothing worthwhile is easy.

Congratulations - You've completed level II of your tour of earth.
You are now ready to help lead others into the path of self doubt through self understanding.  Sounds terrible?..It's not.  What did you think freedom would be; running around like a 'savage' - no healthcare, no aircraft carriers, no missions to Mars and moon?
You are here  - simply to question - why you are here.  The conundrum effect of universal reality.  If you get this far - you've figured it all out.  Maybe the focus isn't to wonder so much why YOU and or I are here - rather - why is all this space here?  Trying to figure what we are here for - is nothing compared to trying to figure out - what is this universe here for?
