What is the purpose of life?

How do you define the purpose of life for you ? What are your priorities in life?

there isnt one - no grand design, no designer - we live, we die - just make the most of it while you're here a quest for meaning and purpose inevitably ends no better off than it started - that's just my view of course

My purpose is different from your purpose. My priorities are different from your priorities. I am a Spirit living in a human body.

That's a very open ended question. Each person's purpose may differ a little. One person may feel that their purpose is to help others, the other may believe theirs is to develop new things to enrich quality of life for themselves. For me, I think there is a purpose for us being here....a grand design by a someone, not just an accident.

I believe in altruism and in serving the "greater good", however cliche that may sound. I believe that our lives are all closely intertwined; all our actions will impact someone somewhere someday whether or not we realize it. Life to me is also about living to the fullest, as well as spending and appreciating the short time we have in this world with loved ones.

Very simple question, possibly the easiest question in the world to answer.

The purpose of life is to bring:

    MEANING

    to it.

However one decides to define it is up to YOU.

I believe there is no inherent purpose in life save the purpose you seek to impress upon life. Every aspiration, however low or lofty, is worth living for if you truly believe it is and put everything you've got into it.

To eat, drink, and be merry.  Solomon, the wise one, answered the question for all so that no one would have to waste time pondering it.

I like the "doomed to be free" approach.  Without an answer to any kind of purpose written in the fabric of reality, the existential opinion is that all reason to live, to continue living, to find happiness; all of that responsibility is our responsibility.  Doomed to be free to choose... but doomed?  That's a lot of personal power to choose something like that!

In my opinion, the purpose of life is self-definition.
Each of us define who we are by the choices, decisions and actions we make. God working with our souls send these opportunities to us everyday. The prioritizes each of us make also defines who each of us are. That is the only purpose of life

because of my beleifs i would say that the purpose of life is living for a greater cause, living to love others and bring a hope to those who have none. why are we here? to fellowship with our creator and to  spread the good news to those who don't have it. to those who beleive that one day we ended up  here in the body of an ape and eventually evolved or to those who think that we are the ultimte mistake, we live we die...then you are wrong because we are no mistake we are a race of great potential but we beleive that we are merely the dirt of the ground and nothing more. is that what you are going to tell the future generation? take away that hope that perhaps we are something more and feed them that darwin crap a theory that will never be proven or tell them that we live and we die end of story? well that is certanly not the ending of my story. we were created by a creator, he died for us to bring us life and rose again so that we may spread life and hope and love to others that have none so that when he comes back we may live again and all evil is damned in eternal damnation and nothing can ever wrong us again. go ahead pursue happiness, money, all worldly values but i warn you it will pass because money cant buy happiness and happiness doesnt last a lifetime it much like sorrow sucks the life out of you by the time it passes and much like the prodigal son you are left with nothing, but joy lasts forever even in the darkeness light can not be consumed. we live for a greater purpose. so live and keep living because you never know when you will die but dont waste it with drugs, sex,,money and drinking because beleive me there is no life in that.

The main purpose of life is to worship our Creator.  However, there can be and are minor purposes... and those are different for each of us.  We were each created to walk a slightly different walk, to fulfill a different role in society.  For me, my main function within society is in my home.  A lessor priority, but still very great, is to reach people with the message that they don't have to be sick.

there is no purpose. life is life, not about anything. you just live the best way you can and enjoy it while your here because in the end were all dead.

Hi friends, thank you for your answers on my questions. I do appreciate for each one of your contribution.  Believe it or not, we live out the way how we define life. For me, the purpose of life is to worship, live and glorify God by serving people, and by making disciples of Jesus Christ

A very simple question but endless in depth. We didn't just emerged without any purpose. Of course there is purpose of life. Definitely the Supreme Devinity has got a design while creating human kind. Every single being is created with a purpose. Even the smallest lifeform has a purpose of life. Then why should a human will not have a purpose of his life? I do not believe only worshipping the God is the only purpose of life. And to my understanding God also doesn't want that we remain committed only to worship him. Surely He is beyond any worldy things or worldly emotions. For He is greater than all these and beyond any human characterstics. From the day we are born we are moving towards our destiny. On our journey to our destiny we come across events, situations characters. Some time our direction of lives are changed because of those. So the purpose of our life is not fixed, not unidirectional its more than that. To find the purpose of our lives we educate ourselves, we lead our life in such a manner so that we become useful to others, we become useful to the society. This is how we contribute to the world. We put our mark in the society and people remember us because of our deeds. This is how people remember great human, who all fullfilled their purpose of life and then passed away.

If you stick to the evolution theory then the purpose for all creatures as well plants is simply to mate, to repopulate and to evolve. So have children and try your best to educate them.

When you then are religious in addition the purpose is to live a life in that you form yourself into a literally good being in order to ascend after your life. And depending on your religion the purpose maybe is to serve your God.

simple-all of our "purposes" in our lives are to be ourselves-period. think about it. all of creation and universe follows both natural and universal laws. when you get this one, let me know.

energy and matter cannot be created nor destroyed, they can ONLY change form. thus, all there is, is transformation. ultimately, all there is, is life.

if there never has been another you, nor ever will be, your purpose is to be you-you cannot mess it up.

guess that means i trust creation/Creator/God/Universe, whatever makes sense to people. there is purpose in all "life" and creation. why teach that we are separate? we are not.

if your purpose feels you need to be in a religion, then thank you for doing that job! do it well. if you feel not to be led by religion, do yourself well.
