Good God. I just came back to this thread, and find.... everyone... in... AGREEMENT! Time to get knocked down with a feather, I think.
I believe the bible is telling the truth. If you are an atheist or agnostic before you say anything else just read the bible thouroughly first then after that ask that question to yourself again. Please dont read it in a way piece by piece. read it with a desire to know the validity of the bible. hmmm ok ok i would suggest to read entire gospel of John in the bible.
Been there, done that.
The real question is whether or not those believers who have read the bible (some have not) have read any other scriptures other than the bible?
Some Christians have not read the bible at all. They believe those things that they have heard someone else tell then the bible says. And when they try to read the bible they do not understand what it says because those things that they were told keeps getting in the way of understanding what they are reading.
This problem exist among all faiths; not just Christianity.
When all is said and done we will be judged by what our heart is made of. Not according to our knowledge.
I don't like the word Judged,it sounds so negative. We can say the same thing by expressing it as being categorized into diffrent levels of excellence. Mother Teresa being at the highest level. And Ted Bundy having the lowest.
We will then be rewarded accordingly.
I would suggest an older version befor the KJV to you as well.
What if the bible is telling the truth? Please. That's like asking "what if Moby Dick is true" or "what if The Wizard of Oz is true". I would expect adults to be a little smarter than that. I mean, when the bible was written, people ALSO believed in giant sea monsters and that the earth was flat. Not a very credible group of people as far as intellect goes.
Now for sin--here is what the Bible says abut that:
Psalm 103
1By David. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And all my inward parts -- His Holy Name.
2Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And forget not all His benefits,
3Who is forgiving all thine iniquities, Who is healing all thy diseases,
4Who is redeeming from destruction thy life, Who is crowning thee -- kindness and mercies,
5Who is satisfying with good thy desire, Renew itself as an eagle doth thy youth.
6Jehovah is doing righteousness and judgments For all the oppressed.
7He maketh known His ways to Moses, To the sons of Israel His acts.
8Merciful and gracious [is] Jehovah, Slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.
9Not for ever doth He strive, Nor to the age doth He watch.
10Not according to our sins hath He done to us, Nor according to our iniquities Hath He conferred benefits upon us.
11For, as the height of the heavens [is] above the earth, His kindness hath been mighty over those fearing Him.
12As the distance of east from west He hath put far from us our transgressions.
13As a father hath mercy on sons, Jehovah hath mercy on those fearing Him.
14For He hath known our frame, Remembering that we [are] dust.
15Mortal man! as grass [are] his days, As a flower of the field so he flourisheth;
16For a wind hath passed over it, and it is not, And its place doth not discern it any more.
17And the kindness of Jehovah [Is] from age even unto age on those fearing Him, And His righteousness to sons' sons,
18To those keeping His covenant, And to those remembering His precepts to do them.
19Jehovah in the heavens Hath established His throne, And His kingdom over all hath ruled.
20Bless Jehovah, ye His messengers, Mighty in power -- doing His word, To hearken to the voice of His Word.
21Bless Jehovah, all ye His hosts, His ministers -- doing His pleasure.
22Bless Jehovah, all ye His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah!

Without delving into a lot of deep studying on the origins of words, I'll make a suggestion. Could it be that Jesus was redefining what God is when He called Himself the Son of Man?THink about it: He often referred to God as His Father, right? And then He refers to Himself as the Son of Man....

Giants in land of Canaan I thought this was really cool, how scientists keep finding proof of biblical stories! Remember the Old Testament story of how the Israelites were afraid because of the GIANTS in the land of Canaan ?Numbers 13:33 There we saw the GIANTS (the descendants of Anak came from...

I believe that while much of contemporary American Christendom is plagued by false doctrine, non-Biblical teaching, and often downright goofy unChristian 'Christianity', we CAN understand what the Bible presents as the truth and that church history provides us insight into what can be called...
