There are some Christians who are THEIR OWN worst enemies.  By their intrusive actions towards others, they have drawn ire from so many people.  People really don't care what other people believe as long as the later are respectful & not intrusive regarding other people's belief or ethical systems.

Christians are not monolithic in nature. Each Christian is different. However, there are Christians of the more conservative, dogmatic, fanatical, fundamentalist, & traditional bent who believe that those who don't believe as they do are inherently evil.  They maintain that such others are somehow lacking in nature & need saving.   What such Christians fail to realize that each person is on his/her spiritual or ethical path & is where h/she is supposed to be.  These more conservative Christians won't see nor acknowledge that others have a different yet legitimate path.

Liberal & enlightened Christians realize that others have a different path & they respect, even nurture such paths.  Liberal, progressive, & enlightened Christians don't go around asserting that others believe as they do.  They are far too accepting of others to do this.  In fact, they contend that it is retrogressively reprehensive to make others believe as they do.

Unblvr:It's not a matter of one believing "their" interpretation of Scripture, rather what GOD truly meant. Man differs fm Holy Spirit Who tells blvr TRUTH.JESUS said TELL! It's for them to "prove" their belief w/WORD JESUS said!

I agree that the activities of many uber-conservative Christians are a real turn-off to many in America. I'm afraid that their rigidity and hatefulness towards those that don't fit their interpretation of the Bible is driving away many.

Viriginia, why do "Christians" feel they shouldn't "teach" or prefer not to cause controversy & remain quiet (which is totally against Scripture)? I'm trying to figure out why they use the term but don't do as He says? "Religiously correct"="Quie

Yes any group can be it's own worst enemy. There is no justification for religious intolerance.  Certain groups are intolerant of any other religion or even sect.
Of course we also have abundant atheists who are intolerant of ALL religions and often use certain bigoted right wing Christian  fundamentalists to "prove their point" (in their own minds).
We should all enjoy and appreciate the cultural variety of the various religions.

Did GOD "... enjoy and appreciate the cultural variety of the various religions?"  Aren't we to be Christ-like?  Unbelievers speak w/o knowledge of believer's belief!

God created all the various beautiful religions without any superiority between them. God doesn't create such divisions, people do.

      No "Superiority?"MY GOD=THE ALMIGHTY GOD (Jehovah="I AM!") is a jealous GOD!  (Ex 34:14;Deut 6:15)

No "division?"  Read Gal 1:6-9 "...any other gospel, LET HIM BE ACCURSED!"

I imagine MOST would think it is an unbelievers or an Atheist (we KNOW where they're coming from), but on the contrary, Religion is the greatest enemy of Disciples of Christ (aka "Christians")!

Satan is currently in churches, continuously teaching "twisted doctrine" (John 10:10) and as lambs being lead to slaughter, rather than STUDYING, so called "Christians," accepts "man's interpretation" rather than relying on the Holy Spirit who JESUS said would help by "leading and guiding" us into ALL TRUTH!

Who cares JESUS (aka Holy Spirit) said, He would "lead and guide" us into ALL TRUTH, but look at those Scriptures (John 14:26; 16:13) as "unbelievable" (apparently)  because they don't use Him (Jesus)!  He's there!  Waiting for us to "receive" Him!

Do "believers" not know this is a "spiritual" journey?  John 4:24 says "the Father wishes us to worship in SPIRIT and in TRUTH!"  Have you read this lately?  Spooky, crazy or what, "believers?"  If not, why, then have one not "received" the gift and allow Holy Spirit "reveal" TRUTH rather than following one's own understanding or clergyman's "teachings" guide one's hope for "eternal life?"  Get real!

Then we wonder why there's a church on every corner?  Man has so much "knowledge" that he's sure what he's studied in Scripture (and from man's interpretation) is correct because he reads "the letter" rather than reading ("worshiping") "in spirit and in truth!"  Of course, each man has different interpretation; therefore, church on every corner.

But in order for THE HOLY SPIRIT (there are other spirits, in the name of Jesus; I John 4:1-5) to come (Acts 2:1-2), ALL must be "on one accord!"  (Unbelievers:  Why we (believers) continue to disagree (Holy Spirit v. man)!  Jesus knew this would happen for in Hebrews 6:1-3 He said, "Therefore, leaving the principles of "the doctrine of Christ," let us go on into "perfection," not again laying the foundation of "repentance," from dead works (law), and of faith in God, (v2) Of the doctrine of "baptisms," and of "laying on of hands," and of "resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment (v3) And this will we do, if God permit."

If believers would "Lean not to OWN understanding" (Proverbs 3:5), whether taught or studied, "Humble oneself" (II Chronicles 7:14), and "seek His Face" (Study for self), THE HOLY SPIRIT  will "reveal ALL truth!"

All ideas about superiority of a religion or race are repugnant to God. He teaches tolerance and love between all people, all races and all religions.

OZ: "Religion"=not of GOD!  "Race?" (Gal 3:28) "Tolerance?" Give Scripture reflecting "tolerance" of sinners? LOVE: Yes, "the sinner (their spirit)," REBUKE: Yes, "the sin (flesh)"  (I Tim 5:20)!  " Go & sin no more!" (Jn 8:11) Not "Tolerate!"

The things that the Scriptures themselves speak of: doubt, hate, envy, greed, resentment, attachments, lust, ego and anger ...insecurity ...

It is not the things that go into us that defile us, but the things that come out of us. The Saint is a clean mirror which sees only beauty. That is the significant difference. Let us remove the veil. Prayer, both verbal and interior, Silence/Solitude, and Meditation, are the tools to do so. Service to mankind ...

If we wish to swim, but are afraid of the water, we will never be able to do so. Much Peace.

In many ways Christians choose their enemies.
They feel threatened by a society that believes in separation of church and state. They dislike what they see as being the moral decay of society. And yet over 75% of citizens in the U.S. consider themselves to be Christians!
However instead of adopting a philosophy of "live and let live" or accepting the fact that they will be taken care of according to scripture many feel the need to go on the attack to stop people from living as they please. Many use God and religion to discriminate.
Love thy neighbor as thyself and judge not lest ye be judged are notions of the past. They've been replaced with threats of damnation and civil disobedience against laws for equality.
However it's not just Christians who feel the need to insert their religious beliefs in government and personal choices people are entitled to make. Muslims have been known to kill people over cartoon illustrations or jokes about the Prophet Mohammad. It's unlikely God needs anyone to "fight his battles".
If one truly believes in the bible then the future has already been written! Revelations spells out how things will end and therefore there is no need for protest in angry mobs or seek to change the constitution. Their ticket to heaven has been paid for. (Relax).

Leading by example is the best way to draw people towards you. When someone witnesses others living happy and fulfilling lives they naturally will want to know your "secret".
Too many Christians prefer to {confront} unbelievers!

What did Jesus do?  Not "confront?"  Quiet Christians don't help!  Appeasing Christians don't help!  Disciples of Christ "Teach" no matter who thinks what & to say not is against WORD!

If you believe the words in the bible then you must know that everything is going according to plan!

Logically none of those scriptures makes sense if one truly believes the bible spells out our future in Revelations. Why would God need you to fight a battle that's already been decided? Let people choose on their own. Save yourself!smile

Really many people think that people who oppose them are their enemies,  , but that is like saying your fellow classmate is your enemie based on your failure in a class room.
Did you  do all required work assignments given, we are responsible for ourselfs and we will have to answer
When it is time to for ourselfs before God.
So if we do not do our part as a teacher request who is the enemy?
The finger is pointed at oneself not the class mate.
People want to always blame not taking accepting
That their lack of something caused an outcome.
The truth is we can be our own enemy.

Hate they "taught" u wrong!  GOD places ppl in life (RUDE?) to get atten
