Do you take the Bible story to be 100 percent factual or do you some of it as analogy?
I do take the Bible stories as factual. Just as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all tell the same stories in their own words.
Yes having stories told from different perspectives but over the same time period definitely help us get a greater understanding...
SS: Yes, "same stories." "The Gospels" fulfilled Scriptures n Deut 17:6;19:15, Matt 18:16; II Cor 13:1 "Where there r 2 r 3 witnesses the word is established" {paraphrasing}! Why I know Matt 28:19 was an "add on!"
Mark was the 1st gospel account, the others were copied from Mark with further embellishments. None met Jesus. Other gospels exist but only 4 were admitted because the church said there are 4 winds and 4 corners to the Earth, so only 4 gospels.
Dis: Holy Spirit is alive & well. The Spirit of Discernment will ALWAYS reveal TRUTH! "Woe" be unto the church & so MANY associated w/it! HOW MANY denominations are "spin offs" fm the church? MY GOD! Look HOW MANY souls r LOST!
GOD'S ANG
It's not enough that Christians think non Christians are going to hell but that every Christian who doesn't belong to their special group or every Christian with different interpretations are also going to hell. Heaven with have a population of 156.
Dis: True! The number will be "few!" Read Matthew 7:13-14! Whether u know or not, you repeated Scripture!
YEAH!
Either one "BELIEVES" Scripture or not!
The MORAL of the Story (for lack of better words) is what one should always bear in mind! GOD (ONE Spirit with NUMEROUS GLORIES, as evidenced when He said, "let us" in Genesis 1:26) created ALL with an overall BIG PLAN in mind: To receive GLORY from creations and to "reconcile" those who BELIEVE in HIM unto HIMSELF.
He created man and saw that he (man) was evil (Genesis 6:5)! GOD KNEW due to man's evil heart, NO ONE could get the job done (Reconciliation), but HIMSELF! Consequently, throughout the Old Testament He spoke through Prophets telling them to tell ALL a "SAVIOR" was coming!
GOD then Fathered HIMSELF (Lk 1:31; 37-38), came, (I Timothy 3:16 "...God was manifested in the flesh...") in the GLORY of JESUS (Lk 1:37-38), died for the remissions of our sins (I Jn 1:19), sent us the Holy Spirit to "lead and guide us" (Jn 14:26; 16:13), in order for us to be "reconciled" unto HIMSELF (II Cor 5:18-19)! That almost sums up the Bible!
Although "man" (RELIGION/Catholic Church) has "analyzed" Scripture, we (those "IN CHRIST" or "born again") have Something that NO MAN can LIE to - The Holy Spirit! They may have tampered with HIS WORD (Revelation 22:18-19) by "analyzing" or "adding on" or "taking away," but HOLY SPIRIT will "lead and guide us into ALL TRUTH!" (John 14:26; 16:13)!
Thank you JESUS!
Does it ever worry you that Man sometimes (even from the pulpit) misinterprets the Bible or let's it interpreted for his own mission.....Or that the Bible has been translated throughout the ages for different audiences....agree that mostly stays same
ML: They do & have & is why GOD is angry! But "Thanks be to GOD" He sent the Holy Spirit to discern ALL LIES! What a Gift! Praying ALL find & use by exercising FAITH to the MAX!
Yes I too believe that through Prayer people can be lead to the Truth.....I just hate seeing what all these prosperity ministers are doing to the people..
ML: God HATES RELIGION too! We have consolation in knowing "They will receive their just reward" (Rm 2:6)! Read Jer 23:1! "WOE...!" Serious Business!
Yes there is a big difference between being religious and being spiritual...
ML: It is! And it's time ALL "religious" Believers take a 2nd look @ what they've been "taught" for eternity is a looooong time!
MOST don't teach "After the Cross" as though "Christ died in vain!" SAD for that's when Holy Spirit was sent!
So God creates man with critical thinking skills and free will, then burns him for eternity for exercising these traits. When the bible states his love endures forever he was lying then. How bizarre.
Joshua 24:15 "Choose" your way or MY way, Saith the LORD!
Yes, "His love endures forever" to them that love the Lord! Ex: U have child, left written instructions, he doesn't follow although He's given u a lifetime, what then? The same it is w/GOD!
It's a fear based religion. You wouldn't set your children on fire, you would love them unconditionally. You can't say God loves people when they are alive but hates them when they are dead.
Dis: Those that remain in sin are already dead to GOD! His "children" he will not cast in the Lake of Fire!
Disappearing Head seems to have a lot of views similar to my Dad who finds it hard to believe in a vengeful God...and instead chooses not to believe in what he calls mythology...I personally choose to believe in a benovolent God....
Marc: And He is; To those who loves Him!
So the unconditional love is conditional.
Dis: WOW! You're right again! I'm beginning to blv you're blvr material! lol Eph 2:1 "DEAD in..sin!" How can HE "love?" He "loves" the sinner but "hates" the sin! His hand is still stretched out!" Rd Rm 1:18=NO LOVE!
Of course not. It has been demonstrated time and time again that there is no scientific and precious little historical or archaeological evidence to support it. It is full of contradictions and compilations of them are readily found on line with biblical references for you to study yourself.
To accept it as factual you must believe in literal 6000 year old earth and that the Flintstones is a documentary. You must believe that polar bears, penguins, and kangaroos walked to the Middle East to get on the Ark and didn't breed on their walk home, as well as ignoring the fact they can't walk on water. You must not be bothered by the strange issue that 1000000 people can spend 40 years in the desert without a trace of fabric, parchment or shard of pottery ever being found. You must also not be bothered by genocide or religious fundamentalism on the level of Islamic State as the Hebrews butchered their way through Palestine. Maybe you don't think it strange that if God gave Moses the Law he didn't give him a law that would be a shinning light to the nations, a law enshrining sexual equality, self determination, freedom of speech and association, and the outlaw of slavery and notions of women being the property and chattel of their fathers and husbands.
Maybe it doesn't bother you that none of the gospel writers or Paul ever met Jesus or that Mark was written some 70 years after the events from fragmented memories, and the other three just copied his work and added other material from unknown and unreferenced sources. Maybe you don't find it odd that the church ruled that as there are only 4 winds and only 4 corners to the Earth there can only be 4 gospels so all others were summarily dismissed. Paul a misogynist, who cares? Or that he insisted that law could be ignored when Jesus said not one jot would pass away. Paul a self declared apostle when he didn't meet the requirements of one as stated by the disciples when voting for Judas' replacement. Perhaps it isn't an issue that Revelation was argued over for 3 centuries before being voted into the cannon, or that the image of heaven in it is derived from Babylonian astrology. What bothers me is that the first 20 chapters are accepted as allegorical imagery whilst it is insisted that the Lake of Fire is singled out as literal reportage.
No the bible is simply a collection of human interpretation of God and events where events are changed to reinforce the accepted interpretation.
Dis: I Cor 1:22-23; God wants our FAITH as Abraham's! Not a "fact finding cmte" but BELIEVING!. U thk GOD couldn't have left evidence? YES, but He wants our TRUST demonstrated!
The "wise" MISS THE POINT!
"a law enshrining sexual equ?" Now I KNOW!
Why quote the bible at me? Didn't you read what I wrote? I trust my car will start because it has a history of starting but you want trust in God based upon opinions of others rather than evidence. Sexual equality, that a problem for you?
Dis: Depends on how 1 defines. If "same sex," I (personally) love the sinner, but (because of belief) hate the sin! Romans 1:25-32!
"Opinions of others"=0 n Sight of God! As ur car has a history, evidence has been provided based on my history w/GOD
I have heard some people get too caught up in the Blame game and guilt trip game with their religious beliefs...I personally feel that sometimes Churches are too Judgemental, and sometimes the judgements are not even totally based on biblical premis
ML; See my response to Matthew Harvey's Q: "What right do we have to judge either it be in a church or in the world what makes you have the rite?"
If I understand the concept of Fruit correctly, we are to judge them by their actions, and not strictly their words......That is why I have much respect for folks that do mission work in countries of poverty.....
ML: Holy Spirit "CONTINUES" to chg us "from glory to glory" (2Cor3:18). Chging (actions) r not ALL Christ-like. Rem: "GOD LOOKS @ THE HEART" (I Sam 16:7), not as man! We blv, have FAITH, chgs occur by the PWR of the Holy Spirit, not we.. Eph2:8-9

First, for my brothers and sisters in Christ, I believe grace through faith is the only way of salvation. I do not believe God or the Bible are short of the real meaning of fact or factual. We are addressing the unbelieving mind here, Proverb 26:4-5.Now, as to the subject, sometime back...

How do we know if we understand the correct context when we study the Holy Bible?I have often wonder why we sometimes if not often misunderstand the context of chapters and/or verses when we study God's word. One can read a verse or chapter a number of times believing they understand it's meaning ,...
