Are you more inclined to believe in the Fire and Brimstone version of God, or the more compassonate
When it comes to religion, there seem to be different views of the nature of God...which are you more in inclined to believe in?
Well neither make any real sense, but I would think compassionate would be the better choice.
I just notice that a lot of Churches try to frighten their constituents into their belief system with tales of horrible things happening if they don't act right....
Can someone give me an example of fire and brimstone out of the New Testament absent the gratuitously added Revelations and Acts.
IMHO - most people want to believe in a compassionate God, because they hope He is like that. But if He is compassionate, why are there so many people helpless against horrific fates, like those Syrian refugees? On the other hand, people who have been terrorized into believing in the Fire & Brimstone version of God can take comfort in that if He can't help war victims here on Earth, He probably is just as impotent in the next realm.
Neither, heaven or hell and no one has come back to tell. When you die it is good bye.
No one even knows why Angels need wings.
That sounds like something I would say! I have always asked why angels had wings. Or why are they always praying?
Oops - too strong there. The question is why are they depicted with wings or why do they have them. Not if they need them. Maybe they just get them as reward.
I was taught that God is love by priests and nuns who didn't necessarily practice what they preach. I don;t understand those who call themselves God-fearing Christians. I don't share that attitude as regards faith.
I must have fallen asleep during that lecture. I don't recall anyone telling me it had to be one or the other. I am just a simple dad but I can be both. Certainly God in heaven can be both.
As to either I can only speak from experience, I have messed up pretty good in life but I am still breathing and living a good life. God must be compassionate. I had a terminal illness, I am still here. God must be compassionate. I do not know about other people. Perhaps God is not compassionate to them. I don't know any though.
Sometimes I wonder about babies dying. Are they blessed when they die? Do they just get swept up and loved in the bosom of God, are they the lucky ones in His great compassion.
People who suffer and then die. Are they the blessed ones because they come to meet God and He gives them more compassion?
Many like me think Fire and Brimstone simply mean that we can build a hell for ourselves even here on earth. By our thoughts and action we can turn our back on the love and live for eternity without it. How unquenchable is that?
I cannot be inclined to believe in fire and brimstone because I have never seen it but I have seen compassion.

I'm sitting here studying my Bible and the Lord gave me a revelation of hell.A few days ago I watched a documentary on volcanoes. I only watched a few minutes of it, no detailed information. As I was praying and asking God what He wanted to show me in the Word today, I believe he led me to...

"there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."weeping are those who knew God and turned away. They weep because God reveals the loss that they have chosen.gnashing are those who knew God not. They gnash their teeth becuase they hate God. They hated Him in life because they blame him for...

I've been supportive of Christians for the most part. Probably because of the respect I hold for the ministry of Jesus and the goodness I believe is the heart of the universe.I've lost the ability to support you guys. The lies and innuendo, the games many play circumventing the truth, the total...

What causes so many traditional and/or fundamental religionists to believe that the overwhelmingmajority of humankind will be among those damned to some sort of Hell?

For as long as religion existed, there has always been the threat of torture in the afterlife (unless you subscribe to *insert religion here* and convert today!), but when you actually think about it and apply a single brain cell to the idea, it doesn't make any kind of sense at all. Given that I...

Children of the King In heaven God is the Father of Jesus. And Jesus is our Father(Abba or Daddy). God has to maintain that no sin will enter into heaven again. It is because we are not to go through this trial again. He may seem more stern to us now, but the task is out of love and compassion....
