We lost a great one in Ali! What is your favorite memory of this legend?
I'm was told, when I was in Australian Navy in the 1950's. Ali was actually defeated in an amateur boxing match by one of our own sailors. Ali was then known as Casius Clay. I expect that was before Ali learned that very valuable lesson which came from those repeated words: "I am the greatest."
One thing I do know, he was widely admired and liked worldwide. A true champion in every sense of the word.
I would have to say the Thrilla in Manila would be my fondest memory. Ali vs Frazier was classic.
Standing up to the government during the draft. Too bad Americans wont unite and do the same with some of their policies and politics they are getting by with today. He was just one man, imaging a whole nation to stand up and say we want change...
