Singapore -- the “Lion city-state”
South East Asia is a great place to visit, as you can see the traditions of the modern world mixing with the Eastern tradition -- it is really a place where "East meet the West". The architecture is awesome and you’ve got to feel the environment (museums and place of worships) and the modern buildings, plus old architecture really intertwined in one place.
I came to Singapore two years ago from Manila, Philippines and it is just three hours away from there. At first I was a little bit hesitant to go because of the high prices there but then a friend told me it is worth it, I went and then I got more than what I expected. I flew the Singapore Airlines and the smiles of the beautiful flight stewardess (yes they are indeed beautiful) tell me that I am for a great visit. Singapore airlines is cozy and one of the best airline in the world. I get down their airport and I saw the sign, Singapore -- Welcome to the Lion City-State.

Singapore -- The “Lion City-State”
Singapore is an island city-state meaning both a city and a state nation. It is the Lion city of the South East Asia. It epitomizes old tradition and modern living. The state is highly urbanized and belongs to the top ten among the nation in terms of standard of living. It is located to the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula , 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator, south of the Malaysian state of Johor and north of Riaus Island Indonesia. The population is only 5 million
History of Singapore:
- The form of government is parliamentary republic. It was a colony of the United Kingdom and they got independence in 1963, then they joined Malaysia as part of the country but they secede in 1965 and from then on, they were independent. They have created a modern economy focused on industry, education and urban planning. Singapore is the 5th wealthiest country in the world in terms of GDP.
What to see at Singapore
- Singapore is a small city-state but then it is rich in tourist destinations. It is complete as I say because the government really put money on developing it as a tourist spot, the parks, zoo -- bird sanctuary, butterflies garden, botanical garden, night safari landmarks, memorials, museums, place of worships are all awesome in architecture mixing of “East and the West” and of course “Sentosa island” which is a getaway fifteen minutes island from the city proper.
High and tall buildings --- skyscrapers
- Singapore is a city with one of the highest prices of land price as it is a big conglomeration of big and tallest building you never saw before.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) ranks among the best in the world,
- Every room in the dormitories around the campus has a computer, the facilities and research are just great. The country really invest on education and high technology. They pay their teachers high salary.
The Port of Singapore is the busiest port in the world
The dockyard is just awesome, I came to look at it and stayed for a bit at the Yacht Club. The Port of Singaporerefers to the collective facilities and terminals that conduct maritime trade handling functions in Sigapore’s harbours which handle Singapore's shipping Currently, it is the worlds busiest ports in terms of total , it also tranships a fifth of the world's shipping containers, and as the worlds busiest container port, half of the world's annual supply of crude oil, and is the worlds busiest transshipment port.
Sentosa is of course great tourist destination and almost 15 minutes away by cable car from main city and almost five million tourist visit the place every year. Sentosa, which translates to peace and tranquilityin Malay, is a get away island and is a popular resort. Attractions include a two-kilometre long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, two gold courses and two five stars hotel.
The Singapore flyer
- Meet the world’s largest Giant Observation Wheel – the Singapore Flyer. It is an awesome experience in Asia too. Singapore Flyer is 150 metres in diameter, 165 metres in height and travels at 0.21m per second. Each of its 28 city-bus-sized air-conditioned capsules can carry up to 28 passengers and a complete rotation of the wheel takes approximately 30 minutes.
- The panoramic views from the top are awesome – passengers can see the Singapore River, Raffles Place, Merlion Park, Empress Place and even a glimpse of neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia.
Sentosa's Underwater World
- Sentosa's “Underwater World“, is the most famous popular attraction on the island of Sentosa, draws in huge crowds every day. It is indeed Asia's most exciting tropical oceanarium, it is an 80-metre transparent acrylic tunnel which allows you to view more than 2,500 sea creatures in close distance too.
I also visited the Chinatown in Singapore and I bought of course a lot of cheap items.
Mandai Orchid Gardens
- The place is best for orchid and flower lovers too, I really enjoyed my visit there as I love orchids and they are in bloom when I visited. The garden boasts of four hectares of the beautiful orchids plants.
These are the places which I visited in Singapore, and I was awed at the place, as if you are at the middle of intersection where tradition and technology and industrialization era comes intertwined.

A great hub with lovely pictures too. I'm going to Singapore this summer with the kids and really looking forward to it now.
Singapore apart from being a tourist destination and an economic hub of Asia, is also famous for education and technology, evident by the growing number of overseas students.
Hi pretty,
60 days hub challenge sounds interesting go for it, I believe you can do it. Twitter is excellent & you do have time, I read lots of success stories & ways to make money with twitter.
~ I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several (60 days) days attack me at once. ~By Ashleigh Brilliant
I know I cannot handle twitter right now. Please check your 60 day challenge link, it is dead. If you are really interested in making full time living you need your own website, product & plan. salamat Good night

Kumustaka pretty,
Well you know making moolas is not that easy but it is easy to spend it all. Everyone should have enough money to live comfortably but tht is not the case.
I think it is true, some people can make money with less efforts & some needs more efforts to make that kind of money. The difference is mentioned in this quote.
"If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." -Thomas Edison
I think the above quote is true because sometimes people don't try hard or lack planning but they expect more.
"There's a very positive relationship between people's ability to accomplish any task and the time they're willing to spend on it." - Joyce Brothers
"The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want."
- Ben Stein
"You have to believe in yourself when no one else does. That's what makes you a winner." - Venus Williams
Try to be good if you cnnot be good then try to be careful......hahahaha to be good is better.
Don't worry you look very pretty in the pictures in this hub....unless you photoshopped the pictures.....hahaha.
Please visit my cute friendship quotes hub I have comments for you.
I will delete the comments after you read it because that is for my new hub. I wish you good luck & lots of success in life. Good night salamat.
hI pRrEtTy,
I guess you are not thinking hard about Moolas, start thinking it's all about moolas & all you see is moolas too. If that doesn't work then get a job in the bank. I 100% guarantee you will see & feel the moolas everyday........hahaha good luck.
I like happy faces, grumpy faces are contagious because it can alter your mood too........be happy don't worry.
Well if I met you before I was same as I am now....every time I see a pretty girl I fall in love all over again......hahaha.
$100 dollars a month you can't even live in Philippine. Whoever tells you they are making $1000 dollars from HP you know they are just untruthful.
Ms. Pampanga was desperate to get married. If you have time & want to make money then don't waste your time on forums & leaving comments everyday, use that time to promote your hub or websites. Socializing & making friends is fine.
Hubbers don't click on ads; people who come through your Google organic traffic are the one's who click.
Yes I invest & I rent one of my smaller condo only. I visited India several years ago.
I will publish a hub about my travel to Thailand soon.
Enjoy rest of your weekend.
Hi pretty,
You have lots of sense of humor & I like that. It's not 3 months only two months. You are not thinking about "Moolas" that is why you don't have......start thinking about Moolas day & night until you turn to Moola yourself.......hahaha Law of attraction.
I am still thinking of Singapore but I will decide when I am in Bangkok. Malaysia & Philippine may be another two year's.
You wrote "Maybe youre earning a lot from HP". Please give me break lots of money from HP. I don't believe any one is making a living from HP, may be few hubbers are making $100 a month with 100's of hubs & 1000's of visitors everyday. For me HP is just for fun.
Are you making more than $100 from both hub accounts?
Now I am not poor but not rich either, if you met me before 1994 I can say I was above middle class but not very rich. I lost lots of money in different investments.
I love Thailand because Thai people are very nice & the life is easy, stress free. I became in love with Thailand when I visited first in 1993. Since than when I visit Thailand I feel happy there. I can go to Bangkok, Thailand any time because I have two Condos there fully furnished.
Ms. Pampanga wanted to get married quick that is what happened. Have a woderful weekend.
Hi pretty,
You want to join me, for sure let's go. I love not only Bangkok but Thailand overall, it has nothing to do with naughty girls like you......hahaha :)
Once upon a time I had a girl friend from Pampanga, Phillipine. I was thinking to visit Phillipine too but there is always political unrest there.
Singapore I might visit from Bangkok, will see I will let you know. I will hopefully leave at the end of June & will return in Septmeber. I will try to keep in touch through hubpages. Have a wonderful easter & weekend too.
Hi pretty,
Wow, looks like you had a wonderful time in Singapore. End of June-2010 I am going to Bangkok, Thailand & was also thinking to visit Singapore too. This time I have to go to Chiang mai & if I still have time then I will go to Singapore too.
From Bangkok they have 3 days to 7 days all inclusive trips to Singapore. I am not sure yet but will see.
Since you provided lots of info I am thinking seriously now. Thanks for making an excellent hub. Goog night.
I have had the good fortune to visit Singapore twice and reading your hub was almost like revisiting it again.
One of the best tourist sites was the Nocturnal Zoo. You travel through it at night on a small tram and get to enjoy watching nocturnal animals who come out predominately at nighttime to feed and "socialize."
This is a very enjoyable Hub, Maita! The photos are great and your description of the place is excellent. Thank you very much for the journey.
Maita - these are great photos! It makes me look forward to going there when I go to Asia next year. :)
Great city to visit. I like the way Singaporean developed their education and health care system-both are world class.Photos are great, specially the digital building and the beautiful ladies.
Awesome pictures, you seem to get around a bit. Glad you had the chance to visit. I am not much of a traveler but this seems to be a place to go. Great job.
Comparing notes with you, prettydarkhorse, in my A La Carte series, I covered our visit to Singapore and loved the same Orchid gardens you describe. It was an interestig and challenging city for both a visitor and the people who live there - at least when we were there. I name a few places you didn't, check me out and see if we hit the same names and places. David Russell
A comprehensive and informative article about a beautiful city. I'm with RevLady on the buildings. That digital city is amazing!!
What a lovely hub. It is a different world over the! I am glad you enjoyed it x
I would love to go to Singapore what a lucky person you are to be able to travel to such places. I love your pictures.
Maita WOW! What a beautiful country and as you have shown the ladies of Singapore are as beautiful as the country itself. Are you certain you are not a travel agent and promoter for this country? Ha Ha!
Thank you Maita. This is a very pretty hub. The digital building was so strange. The flowers are so nice. Thanks
A beautiful City, great pictures Maita, especially the buildings. The Hooters girls were a nice touch. I would love to visit Singapore one day. Thanks.
Wonderful hub, and those pictures are great. My wish list is going too big, I should start to see something around. :) Definitely a place to go. Very good Maita.
Papa Sez and I went there but in separate occasions. We are hoping to go back together with our kids. I'm eying on promo flights from Davao City but it's by Silk Air not Singapore Airlines. Lovely pictures especially the one with a lovely lady in blue dress. Great hub Maita!
I have been there 3 or 4 times and loved it everytime. I think it one of the most interest and beaurtiful places on earth. It was about 15 years agon and we both love love love to see it again. Thank you for writing and showing Singapore.
You really outdid yourself with this one, Maita! You sold me on going there (I think I maxed-out my Bucket List now, lol). I'm familiar with the Esplanade as I used a pic of it in my Durian hub. I laughed when you mentioned Chinatown and how you bought "cheap items" there, LOL. If "Chinatown" was a store, like WalMart, if would put WalMart and Target to shame!
I loved your pics--just about all of them. I didn't know that Singapore was so scenic and exhibited such beauty in architecture and horticulture! Wonderful hub, Maita!
A nice hub from Maita as usual. I visited Singpore in mid seventies. Since then, it has developed a lot.
One day my friend took me to a place bustling with food carts. Next day, I tried to trace it, it was no where. There were lot of Sikhs easily distinguished with their turnban and unkempt beard. I asked one of them about the food-street. Pointing to a parking lot, he said,"By the evening all these cars would be gone, the place would be washed and foods carts would trickle in." It was true.
I loved this! I have never been to Singapore-so this was great for me to read! Loved the Digital building and I would go to the ZOO-I love the zoo! I would never go on the cable cars-been on one once and it was bad experience! The Hooter girls gave me a giggle-which one is you? Thanks!
One of my favorite places on earth - I love love love Singapore! I went a few years ago and the greatness of Singapore started on a great airline, on to a wonderful airport and then out to a spectacular city. Great people, great food, everything you want, clean, safe - I love the first lady...and the Merlion. I went to the Night Safari which was wonderful too and of course visited the Wealth Fountain - the largest fountain and walked around it and dipped my hands. I see there has been new building as well. I'd love to live in Singapore.
Thanks for the perfect pictures - I can tell you had a great time. Perhaps we will meet one fine day in Singapore!
Thanks Maita! Carolyn
WOW, Maita, What a beautiful place Singapore is. The pictures you displayed including Digital building, Suntec City, worlds largest fountain and shopping mall, Sentosa white beach, Chinese Garden, Relic temple and Singapore ladies are stunning. You must have had a delightful time. I do not see myself gong there but I do thank you for giving me a taste of its many wonders.
Forever His,
