How you spend your time while making long train journey?
In India we have journey stretching for 3 to 4 days to some destination. I spend time on reading, writing, watching through window and listening music. What about you?
Well I read a lot so I love travel with my laptop, e-book or magazine :-)
I also like to read a book, listen to my favourite music or do some writing. All these are what we normally do when on a long train or air journey but I also do meditation with open eyes, which implies that I just stare ahead but internally I am reciting some mantra or am in union with a higher power. I do this when I am alone on a long journey.
Fantastic answer and I loved it. Thank you for the comments. Could you please share a little bit about the mantra and meditation here for the benefit of fellow hubers.
Open-eye meditation means that your are getting inputs through the sense organs but are not responding to them but watching them. You can chant any mantra you like. The purpose is to have awareness of the inner self while watching what is happening.
I am too from India and travelling through train from Chennai to Delhi takes 3 days and i am from Chennai. I would take amazon kindle and read some books but not all the time are spend on reading. But once, I sat on for Reading, I would not leave it. Otherwise, do some browsing, Chat a lot. Chatting is my favourite, Listen to music, OR simply watch outside.
Long trian journeys are the time that can be utilized in the perfect manner. I usually read some interesting books.
I like to have a friendly talks with the other passengers who travel along with me. It's very interesting. Knowing a person who we have met for the first time is a very thrilling experience. There is always something new to learn in such situations.
I also love watching the scenery of places through which we pass by.
I enjoy looking out of the window at the beautiful scenery or by reading a book. If traveling with family, by chatting, laughing and having fun.
I meditate while I ride a train, or even while I drive. It's a good thing I practice Zen - I get to meditate with my eyes open!
(Closing your eyes while driving is generally considered hazardous.)
If I were to take a long train trip, I would have my writing pad, sketchbook, camera but most of all my iPad with all my audiobooks on it to help the time pass.
If I am travelling with someone, we can play games: http://liliansg.hubpages.com/hub/Fun-Ga … -a-Journey If I am travelling alone, I will listen to music and read. Also reminisce about the past and dream about the future!
I haven't done a train, but i have done multiple cross-country bus trips in the US, going from coast to coast, or northern to southern tips.
I actually welcome the trip if it's not too crowded. If it's crowded I grin and bear it, lol. I think a train sounds nicer. I do the same things you do really. It's a nice get-away IMO. And I spend any time the bus stops standing, stretching, running around, exercising, etc. I like to document it, too, taking pics out the window or at stops, grabbing post cards on the way, etc. for scrapbooking.
Talking to people can be nice, too, sometimes. Depending on who you meet.
My hubby tried to go on a trip early in our marriage with me. He's not so good for road trips, lol. Too antsy. So I guess it depends on the person.

Is a television in your home, or do you not have time for it?
