I'm wondering if hubpages is red only by hubbers.

   I have taken time to go through some top hubbers' hubs,and i observed something that worried me.It is this:most comments posted on most hubs,were made by hubpages members alone,i don't seem to see plenty of comments comments coming in from outside world,i mean,just guests who are not hubpages members.I now ask,does it mean that only hubbers access hubpages articles?Can someone search for related topic on hubpages using google or any other search engine,and still pet access to our articles?

   most visitors to hubpages come from search engines such as Yahoo or Google, from my personal account around 90% of visitors to my hubs come from the search engines.
   fellow hubbers do comment more in hubs but some hubs do get alot of comments from outside of Hubpages.
   for example this one http://hubpages.com/hub/Help_Find_Madeleine_McCann  by yours truly has over 1000 comments mostly from outwith the site.....jimmy

   When you kick off on hubpages, most readers are from the site. Same for each new hub you post.
   
   For me, hubpages accounts for about 25% of my total traffic ever.
   
   Hubbers are far more likely to leave comments, though, in my experience.

          though my hub got only four comments,3 came from outside hubpages and 1 from a fellow hubber,but to me they are too small.What can i do to improve my traffic,plz let it be detailed and practical.Thanks

   I think it depends on the subject of the hub.  Some are only of interest to members of the HP community, i.e. hubs about other hubbers or their hubs, and therefore the comments reflect this.  "Ever green" hubs on subjects that appeal to the reading public in general such as  finances, the economy, celebrities and politicians will continually draw traffic from outside HP via the various search engines. Current "hot news" will also draw search engine traffic, but only for a short time.  Some people, no matter how they got there, will take the time to comment; others will only read a hub, *maybe* hit "Thumbs Up", and then move on.

      True. In my experience the source of comments depends on the subject of the hub. My hub that has received the most page views (29,000) has received more than 400 comments exclusively from non-hubpage participants who found the hub via a Google or Yahoo search. Other hubs draw page views and comments mainly from HubPages participants.

   My most commented hubs are those I've written about/'how to' Hub. 100% of the comments are by Hubbers. Because they're the ones interested. And the fact that I've set it up so only hubbers make comments.

   Over 90% of my traffic comes from search engines but I find that outside people don't comment as much as Hubbers do. 
   
   You just need to be patient - my Hubs were very quiet for the first three months.  Spend your time researching how to make your Hubs the best they can be - read Darkside's Hubs about how to put Hubs together and Lissie's Hubs about how to make money online.  And have patience!

   I agree with the above,  I haven't been here that long.  At first, almost all of my traffic and comments came from fellow hubbers.  However, now that number is about 50/50 overall and most new traffic comes from google and yahoo.  It takes time for your hubs to have an internet presense.
   
   Of course, I barely know what I am talking about.  If it wasn't for all the great articles here describing this stuff I would not have understood it.  The simple answer is:  if you write quality articles over time outside traffic comes.

    Yes I agree - That fine movie 'Field of Dreams' sums it up so well.  "If you build it they will come".
    
    In the movie, the hero builds a baseball park in the middle of nowhere.  In this case we write quality, original hubs, with no thought of a quick reward, and wait in faith for the crowds to turn up.
    
    If you write good content, with the right keywords and are patient then the traffic and the clicks will come.

    I get relatively few comments from outside HubPages, but as about half of my page views come from outside HubPages, I am not concerned.  I notice that as time goes by, the percentage of comments from viewers outside Hubpages is gradually increasing. 
    
    From my technical hubs I tend to get emails instead of comments.  That's fine, too.
