Need Good Upfront Writing Sites

   Can anyone recommend good legitimate upfront payment writing sites?  Passive income is great from writing, but upfront payments would seem like a good idea in conjunction with attempting to create further passive income down the road.
   
   If possible, I would like to write for perhaps 5-10 major places...
   
   Surely, there are numerous places for freelancers?

   As I mentioned before there is oDesk where you bid on jobs. There is also Elance. You can try applying for Wordsofworth, I signed up there last week and I already have a contract to write 11 250 word blog posts for $5 each. It may be a monthly continuing contract. However, a lot of people are put on a waiting list until something suitable comes up.
   
   I don't know where you are located but a lot of the places are not open to non-Americans.

      I am an American. What type of articles can you write on at Wordsofworth? Preferably, I am looking for multiple places to write on fitness, gaming, and other miscellaneous topics.

         They ask you your interests and try and match you to clients who want articles or blog posts on those topics. I'm writing on a topic I don't know that much about but I know I can handle it. They offered it to me because it is a Canadian client. They tell you what keywords they want used, etc.
         
         They pay you by PayPal.

   And if you want to put up articles, I've had articles sell at dailyarticle and constantcontent too.
   
   I would not recommend freelancer.com. The competition is fierce and , because of that, the pay for writers can sometimes be abysmal.

   At Wordsofworth, is it required to use UK spelling? I noticed that's what they ask for on their quiz. I hadn't clicked on the American flag before looking at the quiz, that may have made a difference.

   ecopywriters
   
   constant content (though I didn't write there long enough to make a sale, I found them helpful, polite, and high quality.)
   
   WiseGEEK is good, too.  I could not commit to their weekly minimum of articles, though.
   
   I think there is also a place called IBPub- I started exploring it as an option, but they have a minimum also.
   
   If you are well-versed in a certain topic, you can become a guide or expert for About.com They pay regularly. It's a  long process getting in.
   
   Felicia Williams at "No Job For Mom" gives lots of helpful advice and up to date information about writing for up front sites.
   
   My favorites are TextBroker and Demand.

      I checked TextBroker, but am a bit confused. Does this site pay you directly or only if an individual wishes to buy your article? Some upfront sites I have looked at have a strange interface, and I am not sure what type of topics they are looking for. I just want to ensure I write for places within my niches.
      
      I also see that TextBroker evaluates your article on a few levels, and you get paid more if its of higher quality .

         At textbroker, you write a sample and they give you a rating (1-4, 5 for professionals)
         
         Then you  get to choose from articles people are asking for.
         For example, I was given level 4 when I applied. So I can choose a level2,3, or 4 article. Since I like technology, I can go to the technology section and pick any level 2-4 article I want and claim it as the one I'll write. Once you claim it, you have a set amount of time to finish it (depends on the article. You can see before choosing)
         
         Amount earned is based on the level and the amount of words asked.
         
         This is different from sites like constant content or daily article where you put an article you wrote and wait for someone to be interested in it. At textbroker (and the content authority, or constant content's marketplace), the publishers ask for a title and the writers claim in order to write it. No bidding, first come first serve.
