Just wait for it to pass, listen to some music - whatever feels right, play with the children (a great source of distraction)- walking helps sometimes, too.

what if we are home alone and there is no option to be happy?

Feeling sad should only be experienced as a passing emotion, unless brought about by a particular event. Sometimes we can change the way we feel by adopting a different perspective - there is nothing more powerful than the power of the mind...

especially when the mind has been lost or you struggle to regain control over it....

Every above comment is absolutely correct. You can be sad, but you have the power to change your perspective of your situation. You should take a proactive step to deciding that you want to be happy, then do things that you like to do. Reading, listening to music, watching TV, socializing, etc.

What you do isn't the important thing. What the important thing is changing yourself. You make your own happiness.

I think you're looking for a magical activity to cure your depression, when really, there is no magical activity.

Your emotions have EVERYTHING to do with yourself and your decisions.

But you know, it's not always bad to be sad or depressed. It is normal.

Play the blues! Or at least listen if you can't play. Listen to somebody who can express sadness so well, that they make you forget your sadness and you start to feel for them!

Hey, I know that feeling by first name.  What do I do?  I usually get this way Friday night through Sunday.  Tell you what you do; jump in the shower, fix yourself up and go out and meet new people.  That's how I deal with mine.  Everyone out there is not bad.  I am newly separated and get lonely fromn time to time.  I found a place to go and hang out and the people are friendly.  I found new friends and am invited to lots events.  Try it; what can you lose?

    Sing
    Listen to music
    Read
    Call a friend
    Talk to someone
Email a friend - but they don't always answer right away
Go for a long, long walk
Exercise for at least an hour
Go for a swim at the local pool
    Play with your dog
    Take a nap
Cook - it takes your mind off things
Play the piano - it helps if you know how
Play the accordion - see above
    Garden
    Kick box
    Watch a movie

If all else fails, cry - sometimes it gets it out of your system and you can move on

As a last resort, clean something!

This is as corny as it comes, but this song is kind of cute for the person who's feeling blue:  (I can't help it - I like it.   It's cheerful and a good reminder. lol )

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EquT1cqJ … re=related

Other than listening to cheery songs or trying to do something that will cheer you up, there's always wallowing in misery for awhile, having a big cry and feeling better.   smile

I used to get so depressed that I would go sit in a corner and sob.  But, it doesnt do any good. The problem is still there when you come out.  so, just get out and do stuff that makes you smile...like paint, draw, go see family, visit...basically,,,,GET UP AND GET OUT AND SOCIALIZE...BLOW SOME STINK OFF YOU!
        it really helped me!

I would turn on the stereo with a dancing music and dance alone until I´m exhausted. Then I´ll get a book and read. That´s my outlet of feeling sad and lonely.

If you are lonely get off your behind and get out and meet some people - will alleviate any sadness also.. Why is everyone answering with ways to stay lonely??
Lonely is an absence of company, so unless you are completely immobile or the only inhabitant of some remote island I would suggest getting out and stop feeling sorry for yourself!
