   A California woman,  22 year old Denise Helms, made a racial slur on facebook.   In addition to this slur, she remarked that maybe the President would be assassinated.   Of course, she was fired from her job and is under investigation by the Secret Service.     
   
   Threatening the President is a serious crime.   I know some people are not exactly happy with the election.     Ms. Helms has taken it too far and should be prosecuted!    Not only Ms. Helms left inflammatory remarks on facebook, Donald Trump, Ted Nugent, and Victoria Jackson were not happy with the reelection of President Obama. 
   
   Mr. Trump called for a revolution,   Mr. Nugent called the President a piece of #$%^&!, and Ms. Jackson stated that a Christian nation has died!     Let's discuss these challenged folks!

   What irritates me is the double standard of justice. When a nobody threatens Obama, the CIA is on her and when Trump invites the people to a revolution (seditious ideas, very communist-like) nobody files him as a threat to the life of the president, to the stability of the country.
   Racist slurs don't shock me coming from ignorant people, it's not as if America was not racist. What do we think that because we are a melting-pot therefore everybody loves everybody? Let's be realistic. What shocked me was that she had the stupidity to do so on facebook!

      According to the FBI and other agencies, a general threat is not considered a crime.  A direct threat to a person is considered a crime and is punishable.

   I do understand and agree with the fact that threatening the president in any form (whether by actual coherent thoughts or by meaningless jokes) is a felony, however I have to disagree with her former and employer and no doubt all of the people who will disagree with her actions for the entire facebook remark.  It never matters what the quality of someone thoughts are, even when they put it on a social media site.  If you are friends with this person after the remark (or if you decide to unfriend her) then that is your decision.  However it is her right as a citizen to make whatever remarks she pleases no matter the repercussions.  You can't take someone right to free speech away just because it displeases you.  They have every right to make those kinds of stupid decisions all on their own and suffer the consequences.

         It is also her employer's right, as a citizen, to disassociate themselves from her based on her speech unless it is in a protected category.

      NextGenXReview:  The right to free speech does not mean you can say anything you want to say.  For example, you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded auditorium.  There is more involved here than someone just stating their feelings...there was a direct threat to another human being.  This is a crime.

   She was reported to the secret service, there is no indication they investigated. She did not actually make a threat.
   
   I suspect the firing had more to do with calling the President, or indeed anyone, the N-word.

   Insults to the president on the internet?  All of HubPages could go to jail then! The internet is not owned by any one, singular, country. That has paved the way to crap like this happening, yes, but what gives the US the right to patrol the entire internet? We are all "citizens" of the "internet country" here, and I don't think America should get to call the shots.
   
   But what's also stupid is somebody saying stupid shit on their Facebook account without realizing that it's linked to their real name (duh), and thus their company and citizenship in this country. Keep it anonymous if you're going to say stupid shit, but to be honest, I seriously doubt some 22 year old girl is a real threat to national security.

      kathleenkat:  If you think what you write or say on the internet hides who you are, get ready for a wake up call.  Government agencies can easily find out who you are, even if you hide behind a false name.  And, by the way, only cowards hide behind anonymity so that they can state their true feelings. If you can't man up and say what you believe and stand up for that by showing who you are, then you shouldn't be making negative comments in the first place.
