We don't write hubs. We buy lottery tickets.

But instead of buying them with money, we buy them with time and labor. And then every morning we drop by our accounts page to see how much we've won. I'm fine with that.

I don't know where my above thought came from, but I decided to inflict it on everybody anyway.

I was just thinking the same thing. That's funny, because I found an old lottery ticket here while I was going through my files for income tax stuff. When I checked it and it wasn't a winner., my thought was getting some good earnings from Google is just like the lottery.

I don't buy lottery tickets. We have a few times in the past - never one a cent. That told us to walk away!

Reminds me of what my brother-in-law used to tell me, "If you don't go out in the storm, you won't get struck."

Unfortunately, this lottery does not carry a jackpot, just the possibility that some anonymous person in a country far from me, whose interests and passions are far removed from my own, will decide that my tickets are worthless and flush them down the toilet.

Its true. I always hope that one of my hubs has struck an audience.

That's funny about the lottery! And maybe true.

Great analogy, so true. It does feel like gambling your time away with no guarantees. I wrote my latest article earlier today, will probably put it in hub form tomorrow. I spent a lot of time on it. I hope it pays off. We really never know, do we?

'You can't win if you don't play.' I'd rather do this than buy tickets.
[Ooops, should have known that has already been said.-- I didn't read the previous replies first.]

Love this analogy!  It's true, though.  You could have that one hub that strikes gold.  smile

Is the Powerball (Hub of the Day) picked by one of those big machines? Are there flying balls involved, or does a human reach into a bin and pull out a random hub?

paradigmsearch--You come up with some good ones! Love the analogy, as CC mentioned. I like how DrMark extended it. Enjoyable forum. :-)

That's not really true. If I know there's a hole I can fill that the internet hasn't snatched up yet, I'm pretty comfortable it will get decent traffic. It'll end up on HubPages or somewhere similar if I don't have a blog or website it belongs on. Or if I have it in me to write it three or four times across multiple platforms, haha.

Of course, the problem is that is hard to find that hole. Sometimes (read: usually)  you just write something because you want to and hope to take a sliver of the existing pie.

What is really neat is that we get to play the same tickets over and over everyday without having to pay for them again (mostly). The 6 out of 6's are few and far between, but I think most of us at least bang out a few bonus numbers and 1's, 2's, or 3's everyday (relatively speaking). When you come right down to it, it really is fun. And the eternal search for the 6 of 6's continues... big_smile
