I'm a cat person. Don't like barking, having to take a dog outdoors to crap, being jumped on, or the way dogs sometimes smell. I like cats because they are independent and purr.

If I'm gone all day, my cats don't care
if I go to get the paper, my dog acts like I was gone all day

I'm an animal person first and foremost.  However, if I had to choose over a cat or dog, I'll have to choose a dog.

Cats treat their owners like staff.  Dogs treat them like family.

Definately Dog. Have had both, but the connection between myself and the dogs I have had has been much deeper than with a cat. A dog seems to be more loyal to its owner and will be extremely protective! My Great Danes I have had would try to tear apart any person who even spoke in a raised voice towards me. And you did not even think about reaching for me in front of them.
They were loving dogs, but...I had to lead them to you first.

    I have both
I used to just have dogs, but cats have their own unique personalities and are alot of fun
had to get used to the cat hair issue, though

We always had dogs growing up.  Mom drew a hard line, because cats could jump on the kitchen counters.  I've remained a dog person.  As a friend once said:  Cats are predators.  If they were bigger they would kill you.

      what a funny quote...
I guess if cats were bigger, they would kill you and then
leave you on the front step!!
      hmm

      I can relate to that.

Personally...I like dogs...especially the big ones the best...(The kind that you don't have to bend over to pet...or when they bark...the pictures on the wall rattle. Instead of a high pitched "Yipe"!)

I like em both! Used to have a Rhodesian Ridgeback that weighed 175 pounds, when that dark barked the pictures fell! Prince Charles of Zimbabwe, died at the tender age of 7, miss you Charlie!

I had a calico named Samantha named after the witch, Charlie did not mess with her, died at 17 years, meanest damn cat you ever saw! Miss you too Sam!

Dog, I love dogs because they tend to be nicer then cats, in a means I got scratched way to many times from cats and I never been bitten or hurt in general from a dog.

    I love dogs.
Have two dogs right now, though this is nothing against any cats.
I am a reserved person, not particularly outward, and my dogs help me project a friendlier image, especially in this neighborhood which I walk a lot with my dogs.  I also act as unofficial dog wrangler around here.

I'm an animal person too. I have a dog and two cats. When I'm sad or upset I'm buried by them. All three are very loving. Unfortunately the oldest is on his last legs. he's almost 20 and my constant body warmer since he has trouble keeping warm. My biggest problem is keeping him off the exhaust vent of my laptop.

I grew up with cats and like them a lot-- also they are low maintenance animals and don't mind being left alone for a couple of days.

I have had a lot of dogs-- and the first one that latched on to me as his chosen person, was a big black lab whose bark could almost knock a person over with the sound shock wave. But he was very gentle, and always my protector.

The miniature pinschers we have had are very protective and entertaining as well as being full of themselves.

I would rather enjoy having a nice quiet, gentle, independent cat, but my daughter-in-law is allergic to cats-- and I want to see her and my son and grandchildren now and then.

Dogs are more active, and more noticeable but i got a kitten for my kids, because a dog would be a 3rd kid. love all.

Dogs - I think dogs have a conscience- they loook guilty when they mess up- and they really want to please their owner.

I'm an animal person but I definitely prefer cats. tongue

Dogs bug me at times...and I question their 'intelligence' rather than loyalty when they still love people after being beat (i.e. on all the animal cops which I sadly watch too much).

And also them being 'man's bestfriend' worries me as well...I'm so bias for animals. xD

My cats are affectionate and don't smell or slobber on me. Kitty litter poo is a lot easier to manage and less gross to handle than warm dog doo off the grass too! ;D
