What on Frogs green Earth is the 3rd gender?

I know I'm an old (old old) frog but - have I missed a new creation? Last time I looked there was man and woman. What sneaked in? Whut whut?

And do not come back and say hermaphrodites. Because let's get real here - how would I know I had met one?

    *curious*

You arent the only one who doesn't know frog!  I don't normally check someones knickers or pants to find out.  Maybe it is transgender?  PLEASE EDUCATE US! lol

Makes no difference to me, I live in a big city where gender is not an issue for most of us.

I can't speak for the OP's choice of the term, but there are cultures that define more than two genders, and antropologists have found as many as six in some cultures.

Western society generally defines two "basic" genders: cisgender and transgender. (Gender is not the same as biological sex, by the way. There are three sexes: female, male, and intersex.) Cisgender means you are biologically female and you identify as female, biologically male and identify as male, or biologically intersex and identify as intersex. Transgender is basically a catch-all for anything else, i.e. transsexual (Male in a female body or female in a male body), androgyne, pangender, etc.

Since people seem to be interested, I have a Gender Identity 101 hub where you can learn more.

It won't get snipped, it relates to the conversation.

And like others say, how would you know unless they told you?

In my opinion, gender should not be an issue.  The character of a person is much more important.

I have a friend who is transexual but fancies females.  He likes to wear the clothes because he gets a kick out of it.  We were talking and it is like more than penetration for him.  Penetration of the penis is only a small part of him, whereas wearing the clothes makes him even closer to woman.  He likes the touch of feminine - sexy clothes = excitement.

    Is he a third gender?

p.s. all guys like the sexuality of female clothing, they like to touch and look when on a woman they fancy.  So, for my transexual friend, wearing these clothes has the same affect.  It is only one stage on from 'normality'.  I wonder if all guys have a secret desire to wear feminine clothes?

I can be absolutely honest with you here, I love the look of the right clothing on a woman, but I have never desired to want to wear the clothing myself. Obviously, I can't speak for all men in this category. smile

What is my reaction when I meet the third gender? Not nearly as bad as when I encounter the fourth gender!! Oh by the way, what exactly is the third gender?
