Self control, now how do you do that, remember that cravings and hunger are just emotions, watch them arise and then let them go  That way you will only consume enough for sustinence.

Food cravings for me normally only result if my body is not getting what it needs.  To make sure my body gets what it needs I have to drink a smoothie with a high nutritional content. If I do this daily I find that I do not crave foods as much.

Also pay close attention to how you feel after you eat certain foods. You may find as I have that many foods make you feel like crap. Its easy for me to convince myself  that I don't need food that makes me feel crappy.

As you mature in your conscience, meaning learn more about yourself you will find success if you remain sincere in your desire to improve.

Some food cravings are caused by stress.  So reducing your stress is a good way to reduce food cravings.  I do things to reduce my stress like visualizing a relaxing beach and I exercise regularly.  Using deep slow belly breathing can help.  Meditation, yoga, tai chi and qigong are all good methods for reducing stress.

Boredom is another reason people get food cravings.  If you get bored you are more likely to crave food and eat just for something to do.  Try to keep yourself occupied.  If snacking has become a habit try changing your routine.

Another possible reason for food cravings is that you are hungry.  In this case you should probably just eat.  Your body needs food.  You could crave certain foods because it has something your body needs or you may not have eaten enough food.  I eat when I am hungry so I snack almost every night and I am not overweight.  However when I eat I do not overeat like some people do.

I believe that most of my craving stem from sugar, carb and chemical additive addiction. I have gone on the detox diet and found that it helped me tremedously. Following a raw food diet or a candida diet are great as they help to keep me away from sugars and other chemicals that addict me to foods which cause those horendous cravings. I have been a compulsive over eater and binger for many years. Binge eating is a physical, spiritual and emotional disorder. There for I feel that I need to attack my cravings with all 3 of these things in mind.

I agree with what MickS says [remember that cravings and hunger are just emotions]

I Eat my emotions daily and some days find it hard to [watch them arise and then let them go] and only eat for nutrition purpose.

I personally am on a high protein low-carb diet (less than 25 carbs a day) , around 50 grams right when I wake up and I'm not really hungry until dinner time. The high protein at breakfast really curbs my hunger until dinner time.

Mind over matter is the best principle you have to follow in order to control your food cravings.

From my experience and trials, I have learned that eating balanced meals three times a day works in controlling cravings for sweets and other snacks.  Eating a good healthy breakfast is essential.  I also take natural supplements such as Green Super Food that supplies much needed enzymes and vitamins.  I think this also helps to control the cravings you get from time to time.

First by asking yourself  "Does my Body really need this?" Decide and then say "No" to yourself or "I cancel". By saying this affirmation it sends a message to your Mind that your body doesn't really need it. Also you might want to try taking Chromium if you have Sugar cravings. This comes in capsule form and you should take 1 with breakfast and lunch. This stuff really works!! I should know I'm a former Chocoholic. Good luck!!

As MickS said, the most important thing to control the craving for food is: Self Control and determination. Also, you should realize that eating unwanted food every now and then is not good for health. Also, I will suggest you to keep yourself engaged in any of our favorite activity. The more you are idle, the more will be your craving for food.

I paint my nails or touch them up every time I have a craving and most of the time by the time the polish is dry enough to go get something to eat the craving is gone.

My biggest weapon is staying busy.  If I'm focused on other things I don't mindlessly eat and sometimes I forget if I'm hungry.  Have many small meals throughout the day.  Drinking lots of water will also help you feel full (and keep you healthy).  I also like to chew gum anytime I have the urge to munch when I know I shouldn't be hungry.  Its useful to have a pack of gum on hand during stressful situations.

Just as everyone else mentioned, self-control is probably the most important in managing your food cravings. Beyond that, chewing gum can also sort of trick your  body and lessen your appetite. As a last resort, keep some fruit and vegetables handy that have a high water content. First and foremost, snacks such as watermelon and cucumbers are low in calories and you'll be surprised by how quickly they fill you up. Secondly, "craving" has sort of a negative connotation, so odds are that a small serving of fruits and/or vegetables is a healthier option than what you originally had in mind. Hope this helps! :]

Part of your answer lies in the type of food you are craving, and part of it may be related to your emotions or habits when you are craving it. I'd have to know more to answer it, but if it is sugar, you need to reduce bad carbs, and take a probiotic like Jaros Dos to eliminate candida overgrowth in your system. Stay away from anything white-sugar, breads, rice, etc. Also, chromium picolinate will help with sugar related cravings. Lastly, read your labels. Stay away from high sodium, and corn syrup.

Have lots of fresh fruit around and make a deal that you have to eat a piece of fruit before you dig into whatever you're craving.  Chances are that after the piece of fruit your cravings will be diminished or gone, or at least you can get away with eating less of the thing you were craving.  If you really are hungry, eat a good meal!
