   Do you find it difficult to concentrate on writing because of interruptions from family members?

   I do not, since my writing is done in a very short time, with little correction. I do most of my thinking in the bath tub, so no interruption. For the record, it takes me a long time to think about a 500 word essay. When I write, it takes 30-45 minutes. I do not edit what I write other than for the spelling errors.

   I used to, but I finally solved the problem. For the last couple of years I've been a writing student and my husband would constantly interrupt me. He wasn't much of a reader until he discovered the Kobo reader, which is like a Kindle. Before I knew it he was wrapped up in reading almost every day. One day I purposely kept interrupting him. He looked up at me and I could see the irritation in his eyes. I then said "You're annoyed right now because I keep talking to you. Well, when I'm writing and you do that to me, I feel the same way. You're reading the written word and you're in your zone and I've pulled you out. When I'm writing, I'm trying to CREATE that written word and you constantly pull me out of my zone. My "zone" has been left alone ever since!!

   I work from home so there isn't any human beings that interrupt me, it's the dogs. They are so co-dependent :-) LOL   They come sniff me or bark like they have to go to the bathroom but I know it's all a rouse to get my attention. Eventually I have to scold them like kids and say, "kennel or go lay down?" They go lay down. :-)

   Yeah of course that can be a hassle but you should be able to get your train of thought working agian when your free of diversions.
   
   I've already published a 711 page book, have one printing now and myself and a co-author are working on a scifi thriller we hope to be made into a movie.
   
   This particular book/movie has some romantic scenes in it which I've never attempted before.
   I did discover myself getting involved or actually living the scene as I was writing about it. Although I have no problem getting back into a scene where I left off if I'm distracted but I wonder, what would I have written if I had'nt been distracted.
   You can be your worst enemy without even knowing it. Writing is a difficult process similar to thinking out endless chess moves. If your tired, you will tend to leave out the little ultra important phrases, words and explanations that make whats in your mind, easy and fun to understand by the reader. Takes notes and come up with ideas when you need a break, only attempt writing when your sharp as a tack. It will show believe me.

   No, my kids are grown.  When they were living at home, then yes, they wanted attention and I stopped and gave it to them.  Little writing got done until they went to bed.

   Yes, as a father of 4 I have a very hard time writing at home, which is why most of my writing is done at work where I have some peace and quiet.

   I don't have a family, but as my girlfriend works shifts then she's often here in the day when I normally write which makes it hard to concentrate. If you can, turn a room in your house into an office then you can shut yourself out from the rest of the world. Personally I find writing with some background music works for me, I've got Eric Clapton on as we speak :-)

    Yes, it's quite hard to write sometimes with the twins around. Usually I have to start over the same sentence three or four times. They are always, mom this, mom that, so it's hard to concentrate. In the end I get it done, but I could do it much faster, if it weren't for the constant interruptions.

    Yes it does. But you have to put family first and give them the attention they deserve. Try to find some time alone like late nights or when they are out to school or office. Peace of mind is really must for writing.

    OMG! YES!  Constant, constant, constant interruptions..and I only have a single family member in the house!
    My husband is constantly calling me away from my writing to "come look at this article" (on the Yahoo news page,), or "How do you spell such-and-such a word?" (about every 2 to 5 mintues if he is writing comments), or, "Come look at this cat!"  (we have 6 of the darlings, and one of them is always either into something, or striking a funny pose), in which case I'm also asked to "bring the camera!"
    As soon as I get back to the office, plant myself in my chair, and begin typing, about 3 words later, I can just about count on another interruption.
    He uses his computer in the living room, at the other end of the house, so he can use the big TV as his monitor...and his space at the opposite end of the office, in the same room with me, sits empty.  It is, indeed, soooooooo very frustrating!

    Yes, absolutely. My husband is constantly trying to tell me things after he gets home from work which is usually right about the time I really get into writing a hub. He just loves to talk to me, and I fight the urge to get frustrated. I listen and fight frustration at the same time. What can I say, he just loves to talk to me. Now my daughter I have trained. When Mommy's writing, no interruptions unless the house is on fire. Overall she's pretty good about it.

    Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.  Go to a lighted closet with an electrical outlet or close your office door for 20 minutes after your work is done.  There's always lunch hour at Starbucks or Barnes and Noble

    Of course, I have many interruptions from my many family members and also because of my professional and voluntary work commitments, but I consider 'writing' as my leisure or hobby exercise so I concentrate on it only in my spare time...oftent the only time I have spare is night time or early morning hours...that are apparently the most creative hours...

    Oh absolutely!  I am the mother of a 17 year old son, and two daughters ages 16 and 4.  I was my father's primary caregiver for six years until his death last August. I watch my niece's two year old son all day, and her five year old daughter after school.  I share a home office space in our converted garage with my husband and my cousin, who is also my business partner.  Most days my office bears a striking resemblance to the center ring under the big top.  I often get around the interruptions by getting up very early in the morning, or writing late into the night after everyone has gone to sleep.
