   Do you think its a good idea or bad idea to write about politics on HubPages?
   
   Politics, like religion, stirs up emotions in some people bringing out their, shall we say, darker qualities.  Knowing this is it a good idea to rouse them with political hubs?

   While I am drawn to certain political hubs, and can't resist responding to them and some of the comments made on them, I have not not written one and probably won't. It is true that all the emotions stirred up are not healthy, and I don't see our country really becoming less divided. I just read this morning that Romney got 59% of the white vote, for instance (mine not included on that one), and it is hard to see how anything but time is going to change attitudes in the US.

      ) We do have to remember there is an aspect of this election that white men would never vote for a black president.  Being it just race that is shameful in my opinion but to each their own, I vote for the qualified candidate, not their ethnicity

   For me, it can be both. At times it is hard to resist writing them. People have even told me that I shouldn't. (Big sigh) I've even been threatened to get ran out of Texas!
   
   However, having said that, I have had some people say that because they did enjoy a hub I wrote, they visited my website and ended up buying my books. I've never had anyone tell me they returned a book because they don't like my political values, lol.
   
   But honestly, I would risk a future as a commercial novelist, if I thought it could make a positive difference for my country.

   I have written my fair share of political articles and yes, those who disagree can and at times do get quite testy with their responses. The beauty about expressing a point of view is that you own the words of your Hub. If someone is over zealous and insulting in their reply you always have the option of not responding or simply just deleting them. Opinion pieces are just that - opinion.
   
   For me, writing is a way to release how I feel about a myriad of things. I can write recipes, stories on childhood memories, observations of nature, interesting places to visit and then I can and do touch upon "hot button" issues. I purposely do not avoid any topic I want to write about because to me, that is what being an author is all about.

      I think its important to say we all don't have all the answers and aren't always right in our views, we have to be willing to be open to the possiblity someone has information for us that can help us make more informed decesions.

   Being a political commentary writer that is my genre so this is one of the places I write.  People here need to learn to take it or leave it.  I don't usually visit liberal Hubs and cause a scene but I know that isn't always reciprocated.  I do read some of the opposing views.  But I also know some of the malicious users here have a habit of using the "vote down" button to register their disagreement with "content" which is not the purpose of that button.  That's childishness on their part but children must play I reckon. 
   
   People have a choice whether to read or not read, to comment or not comment and so forth.  But this being a writer's forum, then respect for the writing should be acknowledged whether you agree or disagree.

   I strongly believe in freedom of expression and free will.  I don't have to read anything I don't want to read but believe in the right for others to express themselves.  Most that know me know that I enjoy a good, fair political argument.  When it turns dark or nasty, I just stop responding and move on. 
   
   I feel the same way about religion and crafts, and poetry.  I can't write a poem but I sure enjoy reading "some" of them.  I can't craft much of anything but I enjoy reading "some" of the craft articles.  What I enjoy most, is the freedom to choose what I will or will not read. 
   
   Good question.

   I think its a bad idea because some people on this site simply cannot resist getting ugly to people who have views that are different from their own.  This causes hard feelings and upset and influences people's feelings about other writers.  I personally have been totally turned off by many people here who espouse extreme views and resort to labeling and name calling.

      I think that if you choose to write about politics you know what you are opening yourself up to and I truly believe that some, like Frog, are perfectly capable of handling it.  Myself I don't know enough about the subject so I read everyone's hubs

   It's actually a matter of personal opinion, GF.....As an Independent, I am always interested in and open to a variety of information, across the board.  I sincerely want to know all I can possibly assimilate, when it comes to our Political world, the politicians themselves and I especially find the opinions of fellow-Americans, helpful and worth hearing.
   Those who are staunch and/or closed-minded, with a blind dedication to one side or the other, do themselves, as well as the country, a real disservice.  Emotions can be stirred by most any controversial topic, as you mention, with religion.
   It's never a mistake to encourage debate and discussion amongst intelligent, rational adults.  How individuals react cannot be foreseen and thus is really not what to consider, when introducing a topic for this purpose. The ranters and ravers, who bang on the table like Nikita Kruschev, add amusement, if nothing else.

   Political Hubs do bring out the worst in some people but I still believe in an open forum policy. If I can write about my boring kids than American View or TheManWithNoPants should be allowed to write about their politics   If a Hub gets a strong reaction and stirs up a lot of emotion its a winner to me.

    I think any topic, including politics when you get meaningful posts is worth it because it allows people to open their minds, think, freely express themselves, and talk about important aspects in life.

       Most are respectful, but some aren't.  As intelligent human beings we should be able to discuss opposing views and not have a virtual reality bloodbath.  I think its is truly in how you present yourself and how you treat everyone who comments

    A friend of mine was banned from this website because of his political views .Some people here are narrowminded and bigoted.They believe only in their own voices.They do not stop at this point but they go further flagging you.It s kind of childish thing to do.They need to grow up ,read and listen to foreign sources.We are brainwashed here.I discovered this fact when I traveled to the Middle east.This website as my friend told me is too strict.They can not allow you to express yourself freely.There are certain rules which I think are not encouraging freedom of expression.so I am saying to hubbers  to stop  flagging each others when someone differs with you ..do not make it hard for them.

    If some thing does not stir up passion, it is not worth writing about. For me politics is among those passionate things. People can be said to come to life when their passions are aroused. A little self control is always in order to avoid, as you say, the darker quallities.

       I think we should be able to write about things we are passionate about, and that we need to respect other's views and that we should excercise freedom of speech but not to the point of harassing and demeaning someone for their view.

    I think it is theoretically a good idea because we are supposed to be a community of intelligent individuals, but the bad idea comes in because apparently people attack others for their views and instead of having a two way discussion so we can learn somthing they become grown adult bullies and really go to far.  I have seen friendships ended for this election through facebook.  I am not afraid to speak up but I am not a mean person and don't do the things I stated, in fact I will speak up against the person bullying or being out of line because its not right.
    
    Truthfully, if you don't mind the flood of drama and mud slinging to sort through to find the worthwile comments or hubs than write away and I will be pleased to read them and comment but I wish that person luck:)

    I think is is a good idea and I am a big proponent of free speech. People should have the ability to engage in a purely academic discussion without getting personal.Having a n intelligent debate is fun. Any topic that keeps things interesting should be written about!

    I've been writing about politics for 2 years and sometimes I find myself asking the question myself.  I write to stir people up and make em people think AND to promote the Housefire Project which I founded.  Most political writers (not all) just preach to the choir.  Right AND Left.  I'm just not into it.  I write about the a-holes on both sides.

    Why is bad my friend? I think hubbers are unbiased and above politics .We need hubbers to write about politics on hubpages because after liberal discussion we can make a strong and unbiased opinion about politics. Besides  the world should know the news through direct experience and thus an make a universal notes .Conclusion after debates is stronger and more appropriate  than the conclusion without debates.This should be kept in mind .One is not equal to ten.I am not always right and will be. We have to be self criticized with the help of others opinions. Hubbers who choose to write politics on Hubpages ,should keep in mind that their far and foremost condition to write political hub is to be impartial ,unbiased.World is watching their hubs.They should not deceive the world.Be practical,be impartial,be     unbiased,be informative and be true to your writing.

    I think it CAN BE great. Discussion is awesome. If you read anyone's view point you'll notice that we all want the same things. We all want freedom, wealth, family, success. We just disagree on how to go about getting these needs met. Personally I think HubPages has a strong community of writers- who will tend to be less defamatory (cursing, slander, cyclical reasoning, etc.) and more up for friendly debates. It's a learning process!
