1,110 Hubs chock full of helpful health info!

Hubbers blow it out of the water in the Helpful Health Hubs contest!

Over 1,000 Hubs published share useful health information and tips with readers

March was a busy month for an enterprising group of Hubbers who published a bunch of truly fantastic Hubs sharing a wealth of information on the topic of health. Well over a thousand Hubs were published on nutrition, diets, fitness and alternative medicine, demonstrating participants' writing skill and copious knowledge on these highly-searched topics.

The primary, long-term beneficiaries of this contest will be everyone who participated. We hope Hubbers enjoy years of lucrative visitors to their Hubs, which address these perenially-popular topics in new and interesting ways.

Of course, there have been winners of the daily drawing and weekly best-Hub contests, as well. These Hubbers deserve our praise for their considerable efforts and persistence, although, naturally, the scope of winners would be much larger if our contest budget were unlimited.

We hope to have similar contests every quarter going forward, so for our health-writers out there, take a breather, enjoy Hubbing on a broader range of topics for a while, and please accept our thanks for being good sports and even better writers!

Darlene Sabella interviews breakfastpop

A political satirist finds her audience on HubPages

I haven’t been on HubPages that long and am enjoying the interaction between all the writers.  I somehow came upon your Hubs, breakfastpop, and I was taken away with your style, passion, intellect and the different elements in your Hubs.

First off, everyone calls you Pop; is that the name you want to use here in this interview?  Also, the news has been extremely disconcerting lately, have you continually been following the comings and goings of politics, and how it affects our lives?  Did you ever work in the political sector?

Darlene, referring to me as Pop is just fine. I am very involved in the current political scene and I do spend a great deal of time researching topics that I want to write about. When I was younger, much younger, I did work for the Presidential campaign of George McGovern, which I am sure will surprise most of my readers. Since then, I have done a complete turn around and I consider myself to be an Independent. I prefer not to associate myself with one party, because I want the freedom to choose the best candidate for the job, regardless of party affiliation. The core of most of my hubs is the political scene in Washington and around the nation. I also keep an eye on the mainstream media because their antics provide me with enough material to keep me writing for decades.

You have created the amazing “Pop Awards” to different people in the news, and “Oscars” of sorts, for the worst behaved or the politician or journalist whose articles are full of lies, as well as the Senate, House down to the President.  I personally have learned so much from following your Hubs. I grab my coffee and look forward to who has done what in the Pop Awards on any given day.  How did you come about developing such a clever way to explain the characters in the news?

As far as the POP Awards are concerned, I created them to give me a platform to point out some of life's absurdities that occur, to my delight, with great frequency. Whether it is a comment from Vice President Biden or a dig by Chris Matthews, I feel both are worthy candidates for a POP which, by the way, is the polar opposite of, let's say, winning an Oscar. The Pops afford me the opportunity to express my views with the added benefit of some humor to make breakfast and the news a lot more palatable.

Have you a special blog or website that features other fine works, if so where can our hubbers go to follow you? Also, have you written any books or are you planning on this in the future?

I don't have a special website, but I have purchased a domain name. Once I figure out what to do with it, anything’s possible. Everyone I know seems to feel I have a book inside me somewhere. I do think about it every once in a while but so far I am just playing around with some ideas that have yet to bloom.

Now, tell us about who Pop is, where did you grow up and what are your personal interests?

Well, it seems that I am a bit of a mystery to the breakfastpoppers (the wonderful and talented followers of my hub). Some are convinced I am a man because of the "pop" in my name. Others are quite sure I'm a woman and that's because I must have spilled the beans at one time or another. I am in fact a woman of indeterminate age who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I am happily married to a fabulous and very handsome guy and I have two talented and gorgeous girls who have given my husband and me four fabulous grandchildren. Needless to say, I am a very young grandmother, so young I'm almost illegal! I love to read and I do so constantly. The greatest gift I have ever received is my electronic e-reader. I enjoy cooking and I try to make each meal very special, not only in terms of the food preparation but in terms of the ambience. Every evening I light some candles, put on some great music, pop open a bottle of wine and sit down to enjoy my husband's company. I recommend this to all couples and to parents and children (sans the wine for the kids) because doing this can change your relationships for the better.

I know sometimes we put our heart and souls into our writing - what is YOUR favorite hub or hubs that you have written and what made it/them your favorite?

I don't know that I have a favorite hub, but I do enjoy Fairy Tale Friday. The tales give me an opportunity to talk about the news in a most unusual way and my fellow breakfastpoppers jump right in and add to the fun.  I rarely decide in advance what I am going to write about. Sometimes I just eat breakfast, turn on the television and let nature takes it course. Something I hear inevitably sets me off and POP, I'm ready to write.

What do you enjoy most about being a Hubber and where do you see yourself going in the future?

You've asked what it is about being a Hubber that I enjoy most. First of all HubPages has afforded me an amazing opportunity to write and send my work out into the Hubbing universe. I write five days a week and I have to thank HubPages for igniting a spark within me. I have met so many interesting and talented people here and I consider them all to be my friends. They are the most eclectic group of extremely gifted people and despite the gravity of the news; I believe we all have a good time. Thank you HubPages, thank you breakfastpoppers and thank you Darlene for giving me the opportunity to share about me...POP...

Again, Pop, thank you so much for taking the time to let me ask you all these questions – and I wish you every success on HubPages and in life in general.  The subjects that you write about are very diversified and interesting - I look forward to reading many, many more.
