Who do you suggest for the Hubbies awards?

For me, the Best Photographer award is a no-brainer. http://aviannovice.hubpages.com/ is the best photographer I've seen on HP by a long shot, but she only has 317 followers and many hubbers may not have seen her work. (Follow the link and see her work for yourself if you don't already have a personal choice in mind.)

I am looking back over 'My Activity' on my profile page for a quick reminder of hubs I've read and hubbers I've encountered ... but it bothers me that I have not yet discovered many, many hubs and hubbers who may be outstanding candidates for other awards.

Is there any reason why we shouldn't be suggesting hubs and hubbers for others to view?  I'd appreciate being pointed in the direction of award-worthy hubbers across all categories so I can take a look before casting my final votes.

If we're nominating and awarding the best, let's make sure we make a real effort to find them instead of letting those who are not as well connected as others slip through the cracks.  I'm even happy if someone writes "Please consider me for ...... " if you believe you are a worthy candidate.  smile

There's an award for 'Class clown'. Is that a good thing to win?

When I was a kid being the class clown had lots of negative implications but I've developed a healthy respect for the title over the years. lol.

I'm thinking Mark Ewbie could easily win that one!

Mark Ewbie ...I'm thinking 'Funniest Hubber', 'HP Class Clown' and one of his would have to be the funniest hub - unless someone can point me in the direction of another hubber who comes close.

Here's his profile link for anyone who has not yet discovered Mark. smile

I vote billybuc for most helpful. If you haven't heard of him, read some of his hubs. They are helpful to writers and others.

Hi PegCole17. I'm thinking we should post links when we mention hubs and hubbers. For me at least, because I like to just right click and open in a new tab so I don't have to revisit this page and do searches to find everyone. (I live off the grid and my internet connection requires satellite and a dish on my roof instead of the luxury of normal broadband.)

    Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW, we only get to vote once so we need to make decisions for every award we want to vote on before voting at all.

  6. LongTimeMother profile image94
    LongTimeMotherposted 10 years ago

I agree billybuc should pick up an award, Barbara.

When considering most helpful, I'm always seeing WryLit and WriterFox actively giving advice and help on the forums. I think everyone who has received help should vote for the person who best or most often explains and assists them.

Then we can consider at least voting for a hub of the others. What do you think?

Here's links to the three hubbers mentioned here.

I'm thinking WryLit is 'Most likely to become a Millionaire'. http://wrylilt.hubpages.com/

Such a busy life, so quick to offer help and advice on forums, and still managed to reach over 1 million views! smile

Can someone please remind me who wrote the hub about folding fitted sheets ... That's a serious contender in my mind for the 'most useful' hub. lol.

Who has suggestions for best Hub?  With about 350,000 featured Hubs, it's like finding a needle in a hay stack.  If it could be narrowed to semi-finalists, I could deal with it better.

    1. LongTimeMother profile image94
LongTimeMotherposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I agree with you Writer Fox. That's why I'm hoping people will offer a few leads for consideration. Seems a bit pointless if we all vote for individual hubs and nobody scores more than one vote.

I found the fitted sheet hub that taught me how to fold them properly for the first time since their invention. lol.  http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Fold-a-F … rl_8188188

I'm not sure it is the 'most informative', but I seriously consider it a contender for the 'most useful'.

      1. Writer Fox profile image37
Writer Foxposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Since we are supposed to find the best Hub on the site, maybe it should be something longer than 680 words!

      2. LongTimeMother profile image94
LongTimeMotherposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I'm viewing it as one of the best, as opposed to the ultimate hub, Writer Fox.

I considered the fact that it was light on word count (very noticeable to me because I can easily write over 5,000 words on a hub, lol) but I think all those original photos, the clear step by step layout, plus an original video made by the hubber herself have to count for something.

Lots of hubbers write lengthy hubs without the benefit of experience, and without one original photo in the hub. Clearly a lot of time and effort went into creating this contribution to hp.

What would your assessment be if she added an additional 20 words to meet the 700 word goal?

I selected Frank Atanacio for best fiction writer as his fiction is so awesome.  I also selected Ralph Deeds as the most political hubber.  JThomp42 was selected as the most religious hubber. He is immensely passionate and sincere regarding his faith and one has to respect and admire THAT.

I think he's a great choice for this category.  Thanks for the suggestion.  He is always supportive of HP and has been here through the thick and thin without complaining.

I chose jill of alltrades for best photographer.
wayne barret for best poet.  AAA writing and composition.

I really like Heather Says and theraggededge.  Their hubs are great!

janshares is my top pick for forum queen.  She's always supportive, never judgmental. She's also an excellent writer.

I'm thinking Ella Quirk for best avatar, but haven't made a final decision.  Her avatar matches her choice of quirky, interesting topics.

Patty Inglish, Ms, most likely to become a millionaire!  Impressive 1,999 hubs.  She's looking at another milestone soon with her 2000th hub!

He is good, thanks for the suggestion.

While this may make it easier, I think we could miss the opportunity to discover hubs on our own.  I went through hubbers I follow, topics I follow, the feed, some suggestions here in the forums and made my picks this way.  I'm not sure HP sees the awards as a contest, but more of a community recognition.  I have a few more to pick, then I'm done.

Wow, this is hard! Some people come to mind immediately for a certain category, but in some I draw a blank. And it's not because there aren't good people. We have so many great writers here, and I only wish I had more time to read all of their hubs! We're so busy writing and updating our own stuff, it's hard to keep up to date and I'm afraid I've missed great works. The individual hub ones are the hardest for me, because I learned a lot from so many hubs. I tried my best though!

Thanks for the suggestions. Wish there'd been more suggestions to consider but time is just about up for voting. If I don't vote now, I might get too busy and forget. (1am on Oct 1st, local time.)

I hope that next year there will be an official thread on which people are encouraged to nominate hubs and hubbers for everyone's consideration. I don't tend to read fiction on hp but I would have loved to help acknowledge a worthy fiction hubber. I spot the occasional lovely poem but I don't know who the major poet contenders would be. I guess the winners are likely to be hubbers with the most followers. Makes sense in many ways ... but it would also be nice if the process identified and acknowledged the skills of lesser-known writers.

Have to wonder how many hubbers never come near the forums. I suggest next year's email alert include a link to a place where suggestions and nominations can be submitted and viewed by everyone.

Good luck to everyone hoping to win an award. smile

I like your suggestions. It would certainly make it easier to expand the hubbies to be more inclusive than just a select few if we could have nominations or maybe even nominees and then a vote or something.  I don't know, it was a struggle coming up with someone for every category and I have been here for over 2 years.  I imagine it would be even harder for others to cast a vote who haven't been here for very long.

      1. LongTimeMother profile image94
LongTimeMotherposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I left lots of gaps because I simply don't know who or which is the best. I'm just hoping that worthy winners emerge from votes by passionate hubbers.

I suspect under the current system it might only take two votes to win a category - because thousands of other votes may be spread so thinly that many other nominees get only one vote.  That'd be a shame.
