But HP, bless their hearts, seems to be doing a pretty good job with the CPM's.

    What say you?

Traffic sucks, and CPM's are great.  Traffic will suck worse in a few months, and CPM's...well, CPM's could go up or could go down.  Probably both at sometime between now and the end of the year.

I will applaud the Amazon program, though - I'ts earned me a few $$ that I wouldn't have gotten.  And I'll give a big "Thanks" to HP for those CPM's: I think they do a pretty good job there.  Certainly it has always been far better than anything Adsense ever did for me.

I've gotten Amazon clicks 10 days in a row now. But nary a sale to be found. I am saddened.  I think a Twinkie is in order.

I am very happy with the new Amazon program too.
I used to get gift certificates all of the time but the taxes and shipping were so high here that I just gave them to friends in the US. Now that money goes directly into my monthly payout, so that is a real improvement.
        Thanks HP!

Actually PDS I wanted to say "Thanks, HP, bless your hearts" but I thought it might be a little passive-aggressive.

Isn“t "bless their hearts" a passive-aggresive statement that people use when they want to say something mean? Or, do you really want to bless them?

Traffic really seems to fluctuate madly at the moment, sometimes that's for the good, sometimes not.

My CPM's have been really good the past couple of days however on some of those days lots of people visit, others very very little. You would have thought with the size of the internet it would smooth out as an average but it seems not.

Ever since I had so many hubs copied, my traffic has been down. One of my hubs that was on the first page is now #60. I must say we are earning good money for the low views we are getting.

    1. DrMark1961 profile image99
DrMark1961posted 11 years agoin reply to this

Is the copy of your hub rated on the first page or is other new stuff rated there?
I also had a hub copied on FB and it has gone down a lot. It used to be one of my best perfomers, is now in the middle. But, the copy is not rated any higher, so I just think Google shuffled the SERPs a little and my hub went down.
Maybe the only way to do better is to keep publishing new stuff?

Maybe publishing new stuff would help, but at the moment I feel just frustrated. Everything I publish is going nowhere.

      Get viral, PDS!

You may be on to something with the Tuna Ranch.  Here in Athens, at UGA, they are ranching sturgeon.  Yes right here in the middle of the state, far from any ocean, they are ranching Beluga caviar.  $85.00 an ounce and it has a little UGA logo on the lid.  Write me a hub on how to ranch sturgeon and I'm in!

I'm not having low traffic, that was last month for me. I think Google updated some things and I know Alexa has updated for the first time in 4 years regarding search terms etc. Must be a lot of web updating going on.

I'm finding a lot of traffic with Pinterest, so I'd recommend doing a lot of that.....

As for Tuna Ranches, best hub idea yet, along with the Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties I was just reading about!

The one thing I have noticed is that I have earned nothing for over four days from Amazon! for a few days it was great! Now ziltch. This never happened when I did Amazon the original way, I always earned something each day even if it was a couple of cents! Um!

I'm kind of starting to wonder if the Amazon capsules I put on my hubs are responsible for my traffic issues. Impossible to tell at this point because of the Spring Break timing.

Awhile back I discovered one hub that immediately dropped 50% in traffic almost exactly after I added two Amazon capsules to it. I tossed those capsules outta there, but still no recovery. I now have a second hub I am suspicious of, so I've thrown one of the Amazon capsules out of there, too. Not making any sales anyway.

          2. Marisa Wright profile image87
Marisa Wrightposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Google doesn't crawl your Hubs constantly - if you're seeing a drop in traffic immediately you make a change, it's highly unlikely it's connected in any way, shape or form with what you've changed.

My personal opinion (take it or leave it smile ) is that you need to focus on one or two keyphrases in your titles. All those titles with loads of " / this / that / maybe this / or the other" need re-writing IMO as they are really unfocused.

Searchers are going to get confused by them, be less likely to click through, which then results in SERP drops.

In the past six days, I've published three new Hubs.  (One was chosen among the best 10 of the day in the contest.)  My Hubber Score, however, has dropped by five points.

Thanks a lot, HubPages!  I get the hint that you don't want me to publish any more new Hubs for a while.

    2. Marisa Wright profile image87

I agree with Susana.  What you need to blame are your titles.   Google can't make sense of a title composed of " / this / that / maybe this / or the other"

I suspect you're trying to include all possible keywords by using such a curious format, but you're shooting yourself in the foot, because you end up with a title that reads like bad grammar to the robots (they can't see the slashes).  Google hates bad grammar.

You need to work on other traffic sources. Find on topic forums where you can post signatures. Do high quality hubs and submit a short blurb about the high quality hubs to on topic high quality blogs. There are all kinds of ways you can get traffic besides Google. Don't depend on Google. Look for other traffic sources.
